Agreed. This is a "feature" I will never ever use. Completely pointless and stupid.
These early shaders are more likely a proof of concept for expansion of their shader system. It'll probably be added to in the future with more targeted effects.
I have no idea why people assume these are just being added for no reason. As it stands, they're fairly neat as far as I'm concerned, and I like what direction it indicates Mojang moving in (finally).
Mind naming a few additions that wouldn't be "pointless and stupid"?

-Quality of the microphone itself
-Low quality or damaged cables and connections
-Ambient environment of the recordings (computers, devices running that produce a uniform hum, etc. Strong magnetic fields, or other sources of interference; Probably doesn't apply much in your case)
-The device performing the analog to digital conversions
-Any local settings (like very low gain)
I don't know all that much about microphones, but if you've verified there aren't any other obvious issues involved, and you're already questioning the mic, you should probably start there. If there's still a lot of line noise, you could just get a cheap ADC, assuming the mic doesn't do this itself. Many integrated soundcards introduce varying degrees of noise. Have to use your judgement I suppose.
