I know it doesn't mean much, but thank you for everything you have done with forbidden magic. All the servers I have ran over the last 2 years have had two mods that always stayed the same. Thaumcraft and then forbidden magic. Everyone always enjoyed the slight twist you put on thaumcraft. If you do make a forbidden magic 2, I know we can't wait for it.

Vines does not re-grow but they will grow if you leave one or more vines. This means you can just as effective farm vines. Growing trees also takes a bit of time.
Large quantities of wood is not hard to get, but it does take some time. Especially when you need to regrow trees from saplings.
If you take the time out of the equation I would argue that vines are a lot cheaper as a stack of vines will give you 64 "ladders" that goes from bedrock to skylevel. All you need to do is to place a vine and then wait for it to grow up and/or down.
you can bonemeal trees if you want to quickly harvest. You can't bonemeal vines.

So if you were playing an FPS where bullets were really limited for a certain gun, do you think that being able to fill your inventory at any time with said bullets would make the game anything more than game-genie-fied?
Creative mode, sure, but survival, nawwwwwwwwwww dogggggggg.
It's not like it will be "hey have this free spawner!".
No, you still got to FIND the dungeon and FIND the spawner, and also most mob traps don't even require a spawner if you are willing to put time in it.

I don't think you people understand what "phasing" means. It means to pass through solid objects without effecting them. The video clearly depicts the dragon DESTROYING the blocks it comes in contact with. That's not phasing. All Notch was referring to was an earlier stage of development where dragons had no collision detection and passed through the environment like ghosts.
Phasing is defined as the act of going through solid matter with out harm.
No where in that definition does it states that the objects they go through must remain un-harmed as well. In fact, one of the most common uses of phasing for "evil" people in fiction is to phase through another human and crush their inside organs while doing no harm to themselves.

People were talking about dragons phasing through things and being invincible. This video doesn't really show either of those things. Notch was pretty clear in stating that they would destroy blocks they came in contact with.
Although I do hope they change the AI a little. Maybe make it so it can't just plow through everything as if it wasn't there. It probably wouldn't be that hard to add a stutter when the dragon's crashing through stuff and some kind of impact detection so the dragon has to turn around when it hits something too hard for it to break through. It would be nice if the destructible blocks were limited to dirt, gravel, sand, wood and leaves so they don't go tearing holes in the world. Would be cool if the effect for the block destruction were different, too. Maybe an effect more like the one for breaking blocks with the bursting particles. Would be nice if they could land, as well. Having a dragon take notice of you and chase you on foot would be intense.
The video SHOWS THE DRAGON "phasing" through the landscape, and in the process of phasing through it, destroys it. Phasing is the prosess of going through solid objects; nothing is said ether the solid object remains in-tact or not.

You don't get it. He hasn't finished the dragons yet which is why they are phasing through the terrain and invincible. Then he made a joke about making them even harder.
Quote from aIpokissa
The phasing is intentional. Invincibility is not. This thread is about invincibility, not about phasing. Nowhere in that video is anything related to invincibility.
So wait, now you are changing your agrument from the phasing wasn't intentional to now it is?
Also, they are DESIGNED to be invincible other then a "one weakness".

You can't be serious... It was a joke. you know? Ha ha? They aren't really invincible. Not sure if trolling, or just dumb.
another person who failed to read the reddit link were notch says they are invincible with hitboxes, but does plan on giving them a weakness.
Think of it like those monsters from some NES or SNES games in which they would shrug off everything you tossed at them, until you got the one special item right before you beat the game and you can then murder them with the sweet satification that you get for killing something that gives you so much trouble.

I can't believe you called me an idiot based on my opinion. And I did read the thread, jerk.
If you read the thread, then you would know he isn't complaining about Minecraft CURRENTLY but in the state of how it will be AFTER RELEASE (I.E. when the main "development" phase is over) with all the incomplete features it will still have.
So please, go re-read what this thread about and then try to do a correct /thread comment.

This will be a fantastic idea ....
.... Until someone's wooden cabin is set on fire. Then they will come to the forums and rage and rage about how it needs to be changed immediately because they lost ten minutes/ten hours/ten days/ten weeks/months/etc worth of work and how they are never playing Minecraft again and that they hope Betheseda wins the lawsuit.
It happened with the Endermen, it'll happen every time Mojang implements something that alters player blocks.
but the ender-dragons will only be in the Ender. So you only really have to worry about them burning stuff if they are in the ender-realm building stuff.

it became what notch always wanted it to be.
from the very start he sayd he would turn it into somthing like this.
now stop complaining.
This, Notch has always said he wanted to add magic. Now he did.
Also, how the heck is Adding RPG elements to a game make it a fully blown RPG?!?! Also, how the heck is Magic (A common thing in a FANTASY game which minecraft is), an rpg only thing? How the heck is Potions RPG?!?! Last I checked, Potions are more of a staple of the Fantasy genra, the genra minecraft is, then it is RPG.
So what if notch added stats? big woop. It's still a Fantasy Survival/adventure sandbox game. It's like saying adding Exp to call of duty totally means it is no longer a FPS and is now an RPG.
That's like Saying Call of duty 4 is an RPG just since it has a few rpg elements (leveling up and leveling up weapons), GTA San andreas is an RPG and not a 3rd person open world action game just since has a few rpg elements, or Super paper mario (which unlike how Paper mario 1 and 2 is an RPG with platformer elements, Super paper mario is a platformer with RPG elements. Hell, God of war is an Action adventure game and has more RPG elements then minecraft.
EDIT: Meh, guy above me beat me to what I was wanted to post.

Creepers don't explode at random leaving craters around the world. They explode only when they get close to you. Endermen move blocks regardless. You make a house creeper proof by not sucking at this game and detonating them. Your argument was described perfectly: No reason.
You should be happy to know trees can no longer be moved. It's rather convenient though. You don't like floating trees/leaves because it irritates you, therefore you should get your way. But if someone else doesn't like a field resembling a checkerboard, well they're just whining.
The entire idea is dumb.
you mis-interpret my argument. I never said they were whining, that was some one else. Don't put words in other people's mouths. Making assumptions like that make you seem like you are not reading other people's posts and are just blindly defending.
Secondly, a Landscape is just that, landscape. Endermen does something that doesn't exist in the minecraft world: Erosion. That is why I believe Endermen should stay (mostly) how they are. They simulate Erosion. However, two things should be changed with them. When they take a block from a tree, the whole "tree" as a structer should be removed or Endermen should ignore trees.
Sep 26, 2011Posted in: 1.0 Update DiscussionQuote from Skylinerw
Why? This is what is currently lacking on the "pro block-moving" side: reason.
How about this: They were DESIGNED to pick up blocks so they should be able to pick up a large range of blocks.
It's like people complaining about creepers. They are DESIGNED to explode stuff and can blow up anything but obsidian.
You want your stuff to be safe from creepers? you make it creeper proof.
you want stuff to be safe from endermen? Make it ender-proof.
In fact, endermen have giving me something to do in minecraft. Right now it is mainly just make my minecart system, toy with redstone, and build some structures. I finish most of that in 1/4th a minecraft day and just mine. Now I got something to fill some "free time" with Fixing enderholes.
The only reason why I am against them taking logs and leaves is since Logs and leaves are apart of a "tree". Floating "trees" enrage me.
Edit: Who ever says creepers only blow up when provoked has never played minecraft. One of the first experiences in minecraft people have is having a creeper sneak up on you (you did not attack it) while mining, hearing the Ssssss, and then it exploding on you.
Also, I'm happy with what some one said earlier. Endermen only take the nerfed blocks easy/maybe normal, and the full range in hard.
Sep 26, 2011I want endermen to be able to move a large range of blocks.Posted in: 1.0 Update Discussion
However, I do not want them to move logs or leaves. I've burned down 4 forests so far that endermen ruined with floating trees and leaves and other stuff.
Also, I want them to actually build stuff. Not just piles, I want them to build maybe a building or a statue or something.

That's why I said "from a Minecraft perspective"... the other mobs are at least organic beings with plausible biological mechanisms, except perhaps the Skeleton, but at least they're "serious"..
That is why notch is calling it a snow Golem. You know what a Golem is? It's basically a man-made lifeform that is designed to serve it's master. Normally they are made out of clay and earth, however I'm ok with snow.
Plus, if enough people like it, it seems we might get more "utility golems" to use. You never know, we might get a dirt golem that auto harvests crops for us, or a stone golem who mines for us.
