posted a message on Weapon Idea: Primitive Gun (sounds crazy I know but please read)

The recipe could see improvements, such as this:

You should make it use String as well, with each String allowing the gun to fire for 5 minutes or so.
Instead of bullets, consider using Cartridges (As they were used since quite early on. It's jus tthat they couldn't be loaded into the gun, but instead were used to store the bullets and gunpowder), with a recipe more or less like this:
And the ghast Tears would be Iron Nuggets, with the recipe producing two Cartridges.

    You should also add enchantments.

As I said a few posts above me, early rennaissance guns do fit in Minecraft.

And early guns don't exactly fit with the idea of a gun that fires faster but deals less damage than a sling. That'd fit more with some sort of low-caliber single-shot breechloading rifle, and not a higher-caliber gun that is muzzle-loaded.
And, of course, there's also the lack of balance between those two weapons, as the Sling is clearly superior to the Gun, as the former is cheaper, has cheaper ammo, and deals more damage per shot. On top of that, it has better enchantments.

I don't want the newer features on the older version, just a classic mode so more people can see what 2011 minecraft was.

i guess i kind of do want creative mode in beta 1.5 because of the old cobble textures that i want for creative builds,

and i want classic eating mechanics (no hunger bar) but you're kind of making me sound like i dont like beta, but i refuse to play anything newer than beta 1.7.2.

    -GoKart

You can literally pick almost any version in the game (Barring Survival Test and Indev), so a "classic mode so more people can see what 2011 minecraft was" is just plain redundant.

You think i don't know that!? I play alpha almost every day, and i collect lost versions of the game. I was literally playing Beta 1.5 an hour ago!

Then, what is the point of adding something that is practically Beta 1.5? It'd make more sense to suggest for old versions to recover their sounds.

Anemone Poison is a redundant effect. Simply using a higher level of Poison would have the same effect. Anemones should also actually deal a bit of damage, if only so they can actually kill fish.
Rather than Anemone Tentacles, anemones should drop Anemone Parts, which are used to craft the Coral Reef armor and, instead of brewing potions, should be placeable, which spawns an "anemone fragment" block that "hatches" into an actual Anemone mob that isn't capable of despawning, allowing them to be used for things such as traps (Specially if they can kill non-Clownfish mobs in general).
Since Drowned now spawn only close to Shipwrecks, their higher rarity should be compensated by making them more likely to drop Tridents.
Do Eels attack other mobs? Otherwise Coral Eel eggs don't have much use.
Sharks should be removed from the suggestion as they are, as they're an effectively hostile mob (As they attack more often than not) that drops nothing.
If sharks are somehow "necessary", I recommend using a more obscure species, such as the Swell Shark (Which could swell like the real ones if disturbed and have a day-night cycle similar to foxes in which they hunt fish in the day, and come to their shelters to sleep alongside their many "holemates"; and would finally strike back if the player persists on attacking them and they take noticeable damage) or the Frilled Shark. Probably even Whale or Basking Sharks, if only to play with the notion that sharks have to be agressive (They'd simply suck mobs in, damaging and expelling them, but wouldn't deliberately seek to hurt anything except in self-defense).
Anglerfish drops need more uses. As they currently stand, Angler Lights could be replaced with Glowstone Dust, and the end result not only would be the same, but would also thematically fit with Redstone Eels dropping Redstone.
Giant Squids need better drops, apart from lots of Ink Sacs. For instance, they could drop tentacles that can be used as whips.

I's sad that the forum will actually end. I hope whatever replaces it is ultimately a worthy sucessor.

posted a message on What's your greatest forum moment?

The fact that I managed to have quite a bit of support back when I mad ethe Guardian's Gaze suggestion, particularly considering that it was an attempt at essentially suggesting a laser gun (And one I gave quite detailed mechanics to) in response to Prismarine's uselessness, that it was my second suggestion; AND that my first one literally suggested adding planes to the game unironically.

The sling is meant to be sort of balanced with the gun, but have a shorter, more realistic range.

    I'll create some enchantments.

War darts in real life are javelin variants, so it would make sense for them to work similarly.

Take into account tha tthe sling is a lot cheaper than the gun, so logically the gun should be superior, if anything. Or at least have a relationship similar to that between the Bow and the Crossbow.

The gun and the sling should be the other way around, specially if the former is supposed to be a bit like the earlier guns.
Also, both should use actual ammo items, and they should get enchantments.
Javelins and war darts should be more different from each other.

It's sad to see this forum get archived. I started out here, even long before I made an account, and enjoyed the suggestions, and the mods; even before I figured out how to install them and all I could do was to read their pages.

posted a message on Illagers Pose Too Little of A Threat

A simple way to avoid that would be to just make Pillagers able to place ladders, or have an "Illager Engineer" mob that can place structures that allow the rest of the Illagers to bypass walls by building over them, or a myriad other ways that don't outright break blocks (Which would be rather annoying). And, of course, Vindicators could break wooden blocks.

We didn't need another meat source 3 meat sources ago, but look where we are.

At least most other meat sources also do other things, and only pigs have them as their main reason to exist, as rabbits mostly have the Rabbit's Foot drop, whereas chickens, cows, and sheep also provide other resources apart from meat.
Of course, goats could use their horns as their main drop, which would be used for magical stuff; rather than using their meat. They could also be much more voracious than sheep as grass-eaters and eat more plants (Particularly in the case of tall grass, vines and flowers), which could make them useful as living lawnmowers. Another use could be to have them drop their guts instead of normal meat, which would then be used to make things that require tubing (As catgut), used as food by itself or cooked, or traded; whereas the goats themselves could be made to more or less lend themselves to a "shepherding" playstyle, by simply breeding after eating enough, and being similar to llamas in terms of attacking hostile mobs.

posted a message on Three Reasons for Village Guards

There's a small oversight in the suggestion: How many of the rules of "normal" Villager behavior would guards follow? That is, would they go to sleep, or would they stay awake during the night? What would be their Work Station? Would they count towards occupying the normal Villager housing, or would they have a separate cap? Would they spawn separately from "normal" villagers, or would they also be spawned naturally from villagers choosing a job upon maturing?

    Quote from Smurfamel»

yes but there's a lot of it in the world it will take almost forever to run out of dirt and sand i'm just saying i think there should be like free rewards i think it would be cool also emeralds for like dirt or sand or flowers doesn't seem worth it as there could be those resources beside you and you can just pick up a lot more instead of like one item for one emerald emeralds are the rarest ore in the game i wouldn't want to spend it on a piece of dirt anyways they should either give you like a emerald or like one free trade because sometimes you might not have emeralds for him because you were not looking for him

While dirt is hardly rare, Wandering Traders don't directly sell it. They sell it as Podzol, which is rather rare, requires Silk Touch to gather, and is useful because it can be used to farm Mushrooms at any light level. On top of that, they also sell saplings, including those from Jungle Trees; as well as Nautilus Shells, Red Sand (Which is from a rare-ish biome), and both Melon and Pumpkin seeds, which can be rather difficult to find, specially in the case of melons; on top of various flowers. They're anything but useless, even if quite a few of their trades are for items that can then be farmed.
As for not having Emeralds, Wandering Traders can spawn in Villages, so you can simply obtain them from the villagers themselves.
