There is a mod called in-game NBT edit and on that thread there is a tutorial on how to make a custom mob which has a nametag and drops items when it is in full armour (google in-game NBT edit)

This is usable, but use it in symphony with whatever you're using now. Creating an entirely new mob is hellish from just NBT. While it's good to know, a lot of it is better left automated. What I did is learn how to make a mob from the tags, so I can edit my current mobs with small changes, while I leave the big parts to filters.

So, in your case, ONLY ad the name in NBT. Not the mob. Also, Amlup released a nice video, if you want to check it out. It has some title along the lines of "custom mob" and "water demon."

Hey! Guess what! I'll let you in on a little secret.
See, there's this fascinating thing called "Survival Mode". It was actually aded into the game back in... Oh, it was in since the beginning. Anyways, the first CTM map was created in Minecraft Beta 1.4 (I believe), at least two years after the game had been released.

Well, now I'll blow your mind. This "Survival Mode" is actually the main mode of Minecraft! The mode most people play! In fact, I distinctly remember a while back, people whining about how easy it was... in fact, that was what lead to the creation of CTM maps! So, now that this "Survival Mode" is being made more difficult (And don't you forget that the Mojang team is mostly updating the game with Vanilla in mind, not entirely but mostly), it's affecting CTM maps, which are in fact addons to this "Survival Mode".

    /endsarcasm

Please people. Have some sense. Sure, Dinnerbone and other Mojang employees are at least mildly involved with the CTM community. However, that DOES NOT mean that all Minecraft development is now in favor of CTM maps. Any updates made to increase difficulty are because people started crying about the Vanilla game being easy. I'm not saying there shouldn't at least be some way to disable the new difficulty increases (I would personally love that), but please don't feel overly entitled to have the game balanced for custom maps.

Also, witches are overrated. They're short-medium range enemies that can either hit you with damage, poison you, or slow you, assuming you get close enough. They can make themselves fire-proof and heal themselves. However, at a range, you can easily shoot them down. And even in close range they're easy enough to overwhelm with sheer power. The Protection Enchant protects you from Poison and Damage, and Speed Potions can easily balance out the Slowness. If you have them, Strength Potions make it even easier to destroy them. I don't really understand why Witches are suddenly the new threat, when squids are clearly the most OP thing since the Spread Gun.

Look, this rant had to be made. Most of it's probably just going to anger people, but it just had to be said. Minecraft is not only CTM. Otherwise it'd be called CTM-Craft, which it's not.

I agree with the point. Except when you said MC was originally survival. Classic = Crappy Creative. That is all I must say

    EDIT: Community Question Time!

How do you guys feel about using macros while playing maps? Examples of a macro: a button that you can tap to automatically switch to your torch slot, place a torch, and switch back to your main weapon, or a button that acts as a perfectly-timed bow-shot spammer (holding the left mouse button down, releasing, and clicking again automatically.)

I'm asking this because I got a really nice mouse for my birthday a while back, and the customization software that you can download for the mouse (it has programable side-buttons) includes a custom macro creator. I was able to make the torch-placing macro really easily, and I'm sure other usable macros wouldn't be difficult to figure out.

So yeah, just wondering what you think about that.

Use them. I don't care if any player uses it. It's an extension of my keyboard. The mouse can pick the numbers 5-9, and I can hit 1-4. And I don't think I'm a cheater, so anybody can use it.
As far as having those be more automated, it seems a bit cheap, but depends. Torches are fine, but bow is a bit less so.

Some points I should mention about my little idea above:1. Yes, it will be mandatory to play with at least 2 people 2. No, the map will not be just flipped using MCEdit. It will be like any other CTM map with a few quirks.3. The map will have to be quite large to compensate for the amount of people playing it.With that said, I think the map MAY have to be about twice the size of a regular map (Don't quote me on that), though it depends on how many objectives are planned for it.

    10/10 would collab on project.

    yes, I read the spoiler.
    :(

Here's a better question then (Hopefully I'm not breaking down any other discussions, though if I am I apologize again): Would people be interested in a map that involves cooperation as a key element to complete the map? Ex: Both "teams" must get to a certain point in the map to progress further. (This would most likely focus on the gameplay mechanics of speed and cooperation.)

Love the idea...and it would generate 2x as many LP's as most other maps, due to the way it's set up. Love it!

What would you suggest I change the bedrock/quartz to?

Something along the lines of stone bricks maybe? Something that doesn't contrast with the stone too much.

    back to building my map

    Pic:
Once upon a time, there was a picture here.

Not sure if you want feedback, but I always feel sad if I don't get feedback when I post here, so here goes:
I'm not a huge fan of the quartz and the bedrock. They look kind of out of place. The glowstone is being used in lamps and terrain, which seems kind of odd IMO, I think it might look a bit cooler if you got rid of that or changed it in some kind of other way.

As for the tower/castle thing, it looks awesome to me. I especially like the scaffolding on the front of it. Maybe too many vines, but other than that, it looks amazing.

Too many different kinds of blocks.

Where? The entrance place, I can see that, but for the tower especially, there isn't too much significant variation. As for the terrain, I like it, but I can see where you're coming from.

    ON TOPIC THING
I made an area. Can I has feedback?

In case anyone asks about the sponge in the pictures, since I make this on a private server, the sponge will be replaced with spawners, since I can get more custom mobs and friends in single player.

    Enter

    Super-not-secret basement place

    Now we're in the tower.

I should point out that the entire idea for this area came from the lyrics of "Well keep marching to the top of this tower / As God isn't at home" (song: Gravemakers and Gunslingers, Coheed and Cambria)

    Next floor:

and again: (probably my favorite one)

    same floor, different perspective:

and the next floor. There's got to be a better way to say stuff like that. English needs more synonyms.

Yeah, not the end of the area, but the end of the tower that is the focal point of it. (so same with this thing)

OK, guys. I'm starting a map, how should I create my first area? I have a totally blank world, all air. I'm not looking for a comprehensive guide, just something simple like, a big bedrock box. Thanks a lot! More specifically, I'm looking for an easy way to create good terrain that isn't obvious brush strokes. I'm also considering using VoxelSniper, but I don't know how to run a Bukkit server. Thanks for any advice!

Running a bukkit server is fairly easy, IMO. All you do is just set up a start.bat file, and you're up. If you don't want to mess with that, PM me. I can tell you how, or just give you the files you need.

What I've been doing with my map is creating a new world for every area. For cave-y areas, I make a superflat world with 255 layers of one block, then carve it out. Get rid of those obvious brushstrokes with erosion. (I use /b e melt in voxel sniper)

If you want islands, I don't like mine, but what I've done is just use worldedit to place one block in the sky, then just use voxel sniper to make a landmass around it, then erode.

But I haven't released any map using these techniques yet, so take my advice with a grain of salt. Though I do have the bukkit server up and running.

I'm currently working on a mini-CTM map (in a 3 map series I have planned), and it's a bit more than 1/2 done. At what point is it smart for me to get a WIP thread up, or should I not even bother with that?

So...working on a miniCTM here. What do you guys think of this final area so far...no structures yet.

I think it's turning out fairly well, but I'm not sure about the stone/cobblestone combo for some reason.

An interesting question. I've never tried this... If I were to guess without testing it, I'd say it must have something to do with the current duration, though I can't be sure. For all we know it could corrupt the world. I'll test this later with different potion durations.
Now, while taking a break from building my first CTM map, I began building a Minecraft Museum. While making a mob section, I had to make statues of the 4 largest mobs, the Enderdragon, ghast, Wither, and giant because they are to large to contain. Is there any way I could immobilize them instead? I made a potion that does it, but it only works on flightless mobs.

You could just cheat, and make them riding invisible other mobs, with a really high slowness potion effect. It should work for all of them. I think.

COMMUNITY Question: Beacause being fancy is bad
How did you pick your Minecraft forums/ minecraft usernames?

I had a good one (back when minecraft had just the minecraft website). Tacomonkey. It's got a nice ring to it, anyway. Then, I forgot my password, but quickly got the legit version with a friend during the wedding weekend (2 for 1 deal). Then it became ALVAROGUDIS. And for some stupid reason, I chose the same one for the forums. I do stupid things sometimes.
