Please offer some advice on how I can improve. I already know this stuff. I want to know if you managed to learn what I already know, or if you haven't or are confused. Please also point out any grammer error or typos. English is not my first language.
Well now you have to follow a tutorial to get your extra default backup/ or new texture pack. (Depends if you want a back up or you just want 1 to edit xD)
This is a tutorial to help extract, create a default texturepack [16x] and install it. Without deleting your .bin folder or anything like that. *READ CAREFULLY*
Due to my Netbook giving me the finger (not literally) I have to postpone the Windows tutorial until i can get it to listen and until I am fluent in Windows Minecraft. SMALL CHANCE THAT THE 1.5 HAS SOME NEW FOLDERS AND ****. SO THIS GUIDE MIGHT BE OUTDATED TILL I FEEL LIKE UPDATING IT XD
I had originally posted a download link in the Texture pack section but I have taken that down due to legal issue of redistribution. Anyways i decided to show people how to get their [16x] Default Texture pack and including mob skins and items etc. by posting this tutorial. This tutorial will show you how to get to your minecraft.jar, extract it, take the necessary folders and .png files and install it as a texture pack for backup/editing purposes.
To get to your minecraft.jar and extract a minecraft folder from it:
Mac OSX:
Please Click and Open:
-your name
--Library
---Application support
----minecraft
From here you want to RIGHT CLICK on your minecraft.jar file and open with a extracting program (Archive Utility)
This should then give you a minecraft folder.
What you want to do now is create a NEW Folder in a new Finder window (Location doesn't matter unless you want to install it which is clarified below. Then what you do is open your minecraft folder (that you got from extracting the.jar file) and drag the stuff you need, which is listed in "What your should Texture Pack contain for Full Editing", into your new folder.
IF you managed to drag the stuff you needed into the new folder then the folder will have everything that your original default texture pack had. Now you can edit it!
YOU CAN DELETE THE MINECRAFT FOLDER (And i recommend) CREATED WHEN YOU EXTRACTED minecraft.jar BUT DON'T DELETE THE FOLDER WHERE YOU DRAGGED YOU ITEMS INTO! (Or else you will have to do everything again)
-----End of Tutorial (Getting to minecraft.jar and extracting a minecraft folder from it)(Mac OSX)-----
What your texturepack should contain for full editing (everything is editable):
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT YOUR (Whatever you named your folder or untitled) FOLDER SHOULD LOOK LIKE WHEN YOU OPEN IT! SO DRAG THE STUFF YOU NEED FROM minecraft folder into here!
-armour folder (contains all of the armour .png files. Such as iron, cloth, etc)
-art folder (contains the kz.png which has all the paintings which you can hang on the wall in minecraft)
-environment folder (contains snow, rain and clouds .png files)
-font folder (contains the font, duh!)
-gui folder (contains a lot of .png files such as item.png (nearly all your the items in minecraft) inventory.png (your interface when you press I or default E for inventory) and many more stuff.
-items folder (Not the same as the item.png! This one contains arrows, minecart, door, boat and sign.png)
-misc folder (contains the grass colors, under the name of grasscolor and foliagecover .png)
-mob folder (contains all the mobs! Both passive and agro! All are .png files)
-pack.png (A .png image of your texture pack (It shows as that little picture of you texturepack up when you open the Texturepack/Mods section in the Minecraft client))
-pack.txt (A .txt file which contains the description of your texture pack. Example: "The Default look of Minecraft"
-particles.png (A .png that has all the special effects like smoke on a torch etc.)
-terrain folder (contains the sun.png and moon.png)
-terrain.png (a .png (NOT INSIDE OF THE TERRAIN FOLDER) that has the skins of all blocks in the game in the game)
-title folder (contains like the title, background, splash screen when you open minecraft in .png and a splashes.txt containing all the splashes. Example of a splash: As seen on TV!
-----End of Tutorial (What your texturepack should contain for full editing (everything is editable)(BOTH OS)-----
First make sure you COMPRESS YOUR contents (Not the Folder containing all the textures folders but all the things them selves. IF you are doing this right, you should at least compress 14 items.Once you compress it you should get a .zip file. Name it what you want to name it and follow these steps.
Please Click and Open:
-your name
--Library
---Application support
----minecraft
-----texturepacks
Then drag the .zip file into there.
.....And Bingo!
Here is a texture pack installing guide (Mac) incase you need you want it (Or can't follow the simple instructions above):
(Not me in it, credit goes to What2WriteHere)
-----End of Tutorial (How to INSTALL your new or default Texture pack)( Mac OSX)-----
DISCLAIMER: I DON'T OWN THE DEFAULT TEXTURE PACK IN ANYWAY SHAPE OR FORM. ALL RIGHTS BELONG TO MOJANG AB. I AM ALSO NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY SCREW UPS! IT IS VERY SPECIFIC! BY ATTEMPTING TO FOLLOW THIS GUIDE YOU AGREE WITH THIS.
For some, Yes. Thats why I made this. Until they become experienced enough someone needs to look out for the community whom have no idea what so ever about this stuff. Plus extrating minecraft.jar gives you all the doc class files and other stuff and some people dont know, whom can work up to that point, don't know which files they need or don't.
Can you give me a link for the world download for that world with all the blocks demonstrated like that (The first picture) I am PROVIDING a texture pack but not making one however i would like to show people what it looks like in order to make them feel safer about downloading it and yeah xD.
BTW nice work on it. I am thinking and testing it xD.
Since I might run into legal issues about this keeping a link I have decided to take the link down and only provide a tutorial. I will keep this topic up as sort of connection to that tutorial.
