so far I am surprised at the positive feedback. thanks for looking at this, I have elaborated a bit more lately, thanks for the ideas, and i am glad to see the idea come THIS far.
Preventing save tweaking is nowhere as simple as you think. In fact, it would be a tremendous pain in the ****, for no other result than seeing it busted in 3 days, give or take (see : DRM).
Just allowing caped players to edit their cape, however, sounds both feasible and cool. Just add a new part to the player texture sheet, and layer it over the original cape texture.
yea, i thought custom capes where a bit more expensive than that. Also I think it would give the achievements a purpose. however, that is defiantly something to consider.
also, I cant help but wonder how long it actually would take to get past that filter. maybe getting past it is enough to earn a cape lol.
Problem 1: Unless you do something idiotic like spawn fire into your inventory, many editors for single player are undetectable.
Problem 2: Uploading these worlds to be checked? Very large strain on Mojang's servers if the world is big.
Problem 3: Mojang has nothing to gain from this. You said there is a solution to that problem, but you didn't address it from what I see.
solution 1: mc edit has a file it creates called #MCEDIT#, I don't know about others, but good point. maybe the hardcore mode would have to lock the world from that. I have not figured out how that might be done.
Solution 2:good point, but all it would need to check was that it had no extra files, and the achievements folder for all the achievements, the world size would have no effect on how much it would slow them down. the only thing that would effect it would be people using every known editor to beat the system.
solution 3: I did not do a good job emphasizing this, but the solution was that you would need a pre-existing cape.
After some consideration, I think your idea would be better as hand use, the laser is a bit of an OP attack, so combine that with having to keep a frantic player in your crosshairs, and it kind of balances it out
before you read, I would like you to know that i understand that mojang does not support this idea, and that this idea includes solutions to this problem. (the solution is that it would require a minecon cape in the first place)
so I think there should be a way to get custom capes. I would like to be able to sport my own logo on a cape. I know that such capes could be made to copy actual minecon capes, and so one of the requirements would be to have a pre-existing cape. The other requirement would be that you have to get every achievement in a hardcore world. And this would have to be uploaded, oh and any signs of external editor, and it is declined.
The minecraft music sucks, only in the sense that you will hear slow piano music while dueling a horde of spider-jockies l think the music should be timed. Milking cows? Slow piano. Spelunking? Music that is echoey and suspenseful. Fighting the wither? An Epic, fast-paced final boss theme. Minecraft just got more interesting!
a way to do this would be to take into account stats and entity data of mobs around the player could do that. Of corse, there would be some sort of priority so if you milk a cow while fighting 3 withers, it still playes a boss theme and not piano music.
I doubt I am the first to say this, but what if mojang/microsoft added everything from all editions of minecraft to every othor edition, then made servers compatible with every edition! That would include lans as well. I think that it would be usefull.
Ok, i don't think that this should be a potion. That would kind of destroy the night vition. But it is an interesting thing. Frankly I would prefer objects on fire giving off light and dynamic torches, but this is facinating.
but there would have to be a trade-off so that people dont just make fake minecon capes, maybe they should be hugely pixilated, like 10x17 or something huge like that.
While I think this is a great Idea, it would make some thing that only has one use. every thing in MC is ether decoration, A finished food product or crafting product, or has 2 purposes, this would make something that fit into none of the categories. maybe if you could do more with this?

Like I said, the first step would be to have all platforms contain the same features, mobs, etc.

maybe the noise should stop when there aggrod to you, so they still sneak up, but still have some personality
