Sorry. Although I appreciate the thought, I have other plans for the shell drop. :iapprove:

Why, I like the idea of riding them sitting down.
Maybe they can glide when you're riding them, instead of flying.
It would make sense, due to the weight.

    Super Mario 64. :smile.gif:

Also when I say flying I mean them flying naturally in the wild, not while mounted.

Updated to v0.5 and added a change log to the original post. :smile.gif:

I didn't really want to release yet, but quite a few days had past and I was a bit stuck.

Thing's I'd like to have ready by the next version are:
[*:3gvuhp8t]Standing animation while mounted, just like riding koopa shells in Super Mario 64.
[*:3gvuhp8t]Somewhat slippery and increasing in speed a bit while mounted.
[*:3gvuhp8t]Figure out how to have them follow once tamed. I'd rather not have to use playertoattack since that changes their skin.
      [*:3gvuhp8t]Possibly flying. Would be nice.

I'm making mobs myself and I wanted to ask how you made those wings...?
I do more of the AI but a friend of mine does the models.
The mob looks really nice :Ham:
    That's all I got to say :biggrin.gif:

Those wings are technically 3D. They're just cubes with only the top side textured. :smile.gif:
I'm still learning about animations though.

    Y U NO UPDATE!, please? D=

Soon! Well.. As soon as I figure out how to make them follow once tamed without using the PlayertoAttack variable, since that's needed to change their eyes to red.

Also.. They'll drop their shells when killed next update. :Pig:

Is there any way to obtain the old round map? While the current one looks nice, the brown filter makes it harder to see the terrain at night, and the reticule things are pointing NE, NW, SW, and SE, instead of N, E, S, and W, so it is slightly more difficult to line up with the coordinates you are looking for if you are using the waypoints.

I had posted a different version just a couple pages back. :smile.gif:

Also, here's one with the shade still but no tint. Let me know how it turns out in-game.

I'm pretty sure it should work with 1.4_01, but could anyone confirm it?
Alright, guess not. Better fix that.

Also, here's the stuff I'm currently working on and should be available the next update:

[*:2ujo34zr]Feed them a fish, and they'll follow you and no longer despawn!
(This is the big one. They may or may not attack with you next update.)
[*:2ujo34zr]Attack one of them, and they'll group up to attack you with glowing red eyes!
(Note: Not really glowing.. Also thanks Mr_Okushama!)
[*:2ujo34zr]Average spawn rate this time, haha..
      [*:2ujo34zr]Texture fixed up a bit.

Perhaps it could drop it's shell which could be worn as a helmet, while worn the helmet could give players the ability to glide gently downward thanks to the wings.

Also I am excited to have it tamable. Hopefully it will be as companion worthy as the wolf.

Although having it drop special drops like its shell is a possibility, I want to work on the AI next. So that MAY be a possible feature in the future, but not yet.

and yes, i am refreshing this page every 5 mins, I'm just too exited about this mod

Haha, thanks man. But I'm still very much a noob modder, so it'll take days for any updates. I'll keep at it though.

Ah, I saw you post about this in the IRC channel the other day but I didn't say anything as I had no idea how to solve the problems you were having!
Congrats on getting things sorted, man! I've yet to test the enemies in-game but from the video they look pretty cool

Yeah, the IRC guys have been great. The best way to get them to help you is to help yourself first, I've learned. And yeah, I'm pretty proud of these lil' guys. Thanks!

    Quote from QLight »
Yey u finaly did it?, BTW did you use a mob creator, if so which ive tryed one i manage to make a mob but failed it to spawn

Yuppers. MCMobMaker just to make the default files like RenderParabuzzy, etc. I prefer Techne for just plain modeling though.

    Quote from Br000ka »
another cool thing would be if u could put them on your head via right clicking or something like a few other mods have.

have any ideas for future 8bit mobs? id love to see a cute pokemon like evee.

Yup, I do plan to be able to place them on your head (Like fairies) so you can jump twice as high and float down slowly. Once tamed, of course.

Also, I'm PROBABLY going to be making a few more Super Mario mobs. But only ones I deem.. Minecraft-ish, you know? Like no Bullet Bills or Bob-ombs.

    Quote from futoisaru »
These are really cute, thanks for the mod. I love the sound you used.

One bit of contructive criticism, I personally would like to see you make the mob much rarer for a few reasons.

    1) They drop cooked pork, so you can easily stockpile a mass of it very quickly.
    2) When you make them tamable, it will be too easy get an army of them and massacre everything in sight. (Assuming they will attack for you)
    3) They lose their cuteness when they are everywhere you see.

I love it though, please keep up the good work :smile.gif:

Yeah, I made them a bit too common for testing purposes, haha.. But once it's done it may be even harder to get. This being that I plan to have them as a flying mob, only in the skies near clouds. Also, once I finish the basic Parabuzzy, having him fly and being tamable and such, I have some other plans for it. I want to make a rare version of it appear: A Red Parabuzzy! And then a super rare version: A Red Spike Parabuzzy! This one will be very rare. Probably a bit more stamina too. I'm not sure how the spike will be used, but I'll find someone way I suppose!

    Quote from Rotten194 »
This is a really cool first mod! I can help you with making them tamable if you want, it's pretty simple.

I'd love that man. That's what I was hoping to work on next since it seems to be probably the easiest feature. You know what I mean: Follow you once fed a flower or something, undespawnable, etc.

You use the IRC? I've been hanging in #mcp-modding lately.

Yes, that's right. Bob-ombs. Small, cute, and oh so dangerous! This lil' walking time-bomb doesn't occur naturally, it must be created! It'll follow you anywhere, and if there's any trouble lurking about it'll willingly, one might say almost gladly, give it's life up for your sake! Just don't smack him, ya hear? You've been warned.

    ========= Features =========
      [*:3m9sxbsv]They freaking explode!
[*:3m9sxbsv]To be more specific, they hunt down nearby enemy mobs and explode after a couple of seconds.
[*:3m9sxbsv]They try their best to not explode when you are nearby.
[*:3m9sxbsv]They'll also countdown and explode if you smack 'em! Great for mining!
[*:3m9sxbsv]Upon exploding, any creature near the center of the explosion will catch fire!
[*:3m9sxbsv]Don't spawn naturally in the wild. Must be crafted.
[*:3m9sxbsv]Can return to back into item form if you right click them with an empty hand.
[*:3m9sxbsv]They do their best to follow you!
      [*:3m9sxbsv]They won't attack Parabuzzies intentionally.

    ========= FAQ =========
Q: I can't find any of your mobs!?!?!? PLZ HALP OH GOD NOOOOO
A: Ahem.. Stop playing on peaceful, you yellow-belly. :tongue.gif:
    Q: You should make Koopas/Goombas!
A: That has been said MANY times before, but it isn't a question!
Q: Ok, can you make Koopas/Goombas?
A: To be honest, I don't really want to. When I create a mob, I must have a "feel" for it. I have to be able to imagine them as if they've always belonged in Minecraft. As if they'd actually fit in. Plus their models are very difficult to create.
Q: Fine, will you please make INSERTNAMEHERE?
A: Maybe! Please add some good (and realistic) ideas with your creature suggestion. I'm still learning to mod, and am limited in what I can do. If I like it and get a good "feel" for it, I just may consider it. :smile.gif:
Q: Do you only do Super Mario mobs?
A: For now, yes since it's the theme I have going.. Unless I'm convinced otherwise. :tongue.gif:

    ========= Change Log =========

    - Fixed tamed Parabuzzies despawning on the peaceful setting again, haha..
    - You can't hurt a Parabuzzy riding on your head now.
    - Tamed Parabuzzies won't attack you at all.
    - Parabuzzies spawn in groups of up to max 5.
    - Right clicking a tamed Parabuzzy with an empty hand will toggle following the player.
    - While following, a Parabuzzy will teleport to the player if the distance is too far.
    - Bob-ombs now have a small countdown time when within range of a target.
    - Bob-ombs change to a red texture when counting down.
    - Bob-ombs also countdown when attacked by the player, allowing for controlled blasts.
    - Changed Bob-ombs' voice pitch to always be the default when spawned.
    - Right clicking on a Bob-omb with an empty hand returns it into an item.
    - Bob-ombs will try to not explode if the player is within range. (A tad buggy)
    - Parabuzzy heals randomly for 1 heart while mounted on your head.
    - Red Spiky Parabuzzies allow you to jump 3 blocks high while mounted.
    - Parabuzzies should now be less common.
    - Fixed bug where wild Parabuzzies wouldn't despawn.
    - Added rare Parabuzzies! Additions are: Red, Spike, and Red Spike Parabuzzy.
    - You can now heal tamed Parabuzzies, which shows heartFX, with any food for 2 hearts.
    - At max health, Parabuzzies won't show a heartFX.
    - Parabuzzies now have a 1/2 chance of dropping Parabuzzy's Shell.
    - Removed Parabuzzies' hop when following. They were too retarded.
    - Any creature close to the center of a Bob-omb's blast now catches fire.
    - Decreased collision box on Parabuzzies.
    - Tamed Parabuzzies and Bob-ombs no longer despawn on the peaceful setting!
    - Parabuzzies mount on your head.. for now.
    - Parabuzzy move speed increased when following you.
    - Parabuzzies' wings now flap constantly.
    - Parabuzzies and Bob-ombs both give a lil' hop animation randomly while following.
    - Water kills Bob-ombs.
    - Lava does not!
    - Added Bob-ombs as craft-able, suicidal companion mobs!
    - Made Parabuzzies a bit more aggressive when angered.
    - They now follow the player when tamed.
    - Tamed Parabuzzies won't attack you on the condition you don't attack other Parabuzzies!
    - Added a hopping animation when attacking.
    - Merged mod_* files into one called mod_8BitMobs.
    - Made compatible with 1.4_01.
    - Now "tamable" in that they don't despawn, but they don't follow yet. Tame with fish.
    - Mountable once tamed. Needs work to be like riding koopa shells in Super Mario 64.
    - Added custom drop: Parabuzzy's Shell! (No use yet..)
    - They now attack in swarms if provoked, red burning eyes and all! (Thanks Mr okushama!)
    - Fixed up the texture and model a bit.
    - Fixed spawn rates so they're not so common.
    - First release.

posted a message on [WIP][HELP] My first mob: Para-Buzzy!
I've changed it to be a Para-Buzzy now, just for the hell of it. :smile.gif:

For the most part, I've got the model done. My only concerns about it are:
[*:yk3cngqx]It's drawn too high off the ground. (I'm pretty sure this isn't due to positioning in the model since those values are rather small) Solved these two with help from Mr. okushama! Didn't think it'd be as simple as just setting its position inside of the hitbox.. Figured I was doing something specifically wrong..
[*:yk3cngqx]It's hitbox is actually underneath it, not on it itself. (This also contributes to the above statement.)

[*:yk3cngqx]I'd like for its wings to always be flapping, even when standing still.
[*:yk3cngqx]I'd like to make a bobbing up and down motion as it walks.
[*:yk3cngqx]I'd like to to figure out how to have something tilted by default (I.E. a leg) but able to rotate as well for movement.
      [*:yk3cngqx]How the hell do I use a 128x64 texture!?
Help on these issues would be greatly appreciated. :smile.gif:

Want me to make a texture? (then ill need a testverson of the mod)

Currently, I can't even create a default texture.

I'm trying to use a 128x64 skin, but it's kind of funky. It looks like I have to set the dimensions on the entity at half? The resolution of the mob seems doubled when using a texture higher than 64x32. The problem I'm having is setting coordinates. I tried asking for help on the modding IRC channel, but I guess those higher up modders only speak with others in their clique..

If anyone knows how I go about this, preferably without using the TurboThingy mod, I'd appreciate the help.

I can also make mob textures, so if you by any chance want to have a texture for it, just contact either QLight or me!

I don't believe you read the whole post, my good sir.

I can't even create a template skin currently. Because of all the shapes on the ParaBeetle, it will require a 128x64 texture. It's not easy applying this size of texture due to the aforementioned circumstances. It would seem I have to halve the dimensions, line up the skin texture for a template (which is hard itself. A coordinate of (24,0) for the head does not necessarily start the head texture at that exact point, for some crazy reason.), then scale up the whole thing to make the ParaBeetle the size I was aiming for.

Once I figure this out or, if the heavens are gracious, get some help, only then will I be able to allow others to work with a template texture on the model-ready ParaBeetle.
