Are they unreliable or is the placer too incompetent to place a sufficient number of them? I've made numerous Endermen farms with torches as the anti-spawner, all of which worked flawlessly.
In a way, yes. But I am definately incompetent tho....
Water blatantly shows which spots are covered. Torches to a dummy like me are kind of a guessing game. Ice is also cheaper and quicker to get than a sufficient bulk of coal/charcoal torches. Water also covers more blocks per unit, especially off of edges. The streams extend further if the 8 block length is interrupted with a cliff.
You sure about that? lol
Unless you meant in the link. I didn't click on that.
I misunderstood that it had to be simultaneous. I did sit on a horse, rode around, and logged out/walked away without it despawning. But when i later put it in these stables, gone.
@dratomic1 Can u walk away from the horse without it despawning? Have u tested without fencegates to see if theyre absolutely necessary? Getbent mentioned that he unmounted the horse. Have u tried that? Any specified pen size? Can the pen be big? Does that mean u can only have 1 horse since u can only ride 1 horse at a time while exitsaving? Will u lose ur first horse if u did the workaround on a new one? How many times have u done ur test? Sample size matters!
I had a horse in a 2x2x2 hole so it could not get out and it despawned. I put another horse in the same hole only this time i named it. It never despawned but all the horses that are just tamed despawn. So if you want to keep your Horse then name it. Only work around at the moment. hope that helps.
The thing is is that there have been cointless occurences of horses being named AND saddled AND leashed simultaneously AND still despawning.
Also, I have had unnamed but leashed horses not despawn after walking away AND logging off like regular play. But after moving them to these stables, releashing, and walking away, they despawned. So i dont think naming the horse has anything to do with them despawning. I think leashing the horse with a lead does. The belief that naming the horse solves all problems is just a common misconception that everyone feels safe to indicate but isnt always the case.
Try moving your tamed & saddled horse into a fenced stall, dismounting, closing the gate behind you. Then save your game, exit and reload your save. Your horse is there, and it won't de-spawn. I built a 3-level, 36-stall barn and have been filling it with one of each horse. 10 horses and counting, and none has de-spawned. Still don't know what might happen if I leave one in some random place, but will find out eventually. For now, this is a decent workaround.
So what ur saying is that if you, specifically you bcuz this is ur conclusion, took the saddle off ur horse and removed the gates from the stall, the horse will despawn?
I built sethblings poormans enderman farm(cheap, quick, & efficient pearls) and if u plan on keep the dragon alive like i have(although ur prolley not seeing that ur gna use it for xp?) U shud make it out of endstone bcuz the dragon cant break it(or obsidian). I think spruce and oak wood look good with the end stone and water combination. No idea what design ur using, so idk really. Just ideas from what was given to me.
Building in the end is easier than building in the nether bcuz theres no ghasts, and u know how it is in the nether seeing that u made a double blaze farm(seed plz? Lol)
Blow a hole through the end? I wanna see pics of that lol. I dont think its necessary since u have plenty of space from y64.
Mines not slow and u have the whole island watered up(i got mine torched up really well but not perfectly covered like urs prolley is).
Good idea. Not perfect. I like to eventually turn off my xbox which may lead to despawnage... im trying to see if theres a simple fix, but the issue makes no sense to me.
I just found out something new. I thought the despawning of horses was chunk related, but its not. I put 2 horses in the same stable, one has never despawned and one that was the newer one despawned. Leashed, but no name tag for either. I can confirm that the myth that u NEED to name ur horse for it not to despawn is BUSTED. I have had 2 horses so far that i never named and i was able to walk away AND log out without them despawning. Preupdate world too btw.
Im still thinking of experiments to test out so i can finally put my stables to use...
I lost the first one that I had tagged with a name tag, that was penned up (actually boxed in on all sides) and tethered with a lead line... a second horse in that game that I put a name tag on and just stuck on a lead line did not despawn. I'm still trying to figure out if there are any consistent patterns or if it is just some anomaly for named horses by name tag or maybe just a random occurrence at times...
Ive been testing around aswell and i think it may be chunk related. If u could plz let me know what u find out it would be much obligued. I have a thread that i could find ur post in easier that i would like u to update me on what uve came up with.
Okay, so ive seen other threads talk abt this issue but ive found out some other stuff....
I made this horse stable and noticed the two components on the left would have a horse despawn and the one on the right would keep the horse... so now im in the process of testing if its a chunk related issue. I think its chunk related bcuz Ive been able to leash a horse in a random cave wihtout it depsawning when i left the area/logged out and when i moved this same horse to the far left component in this stable, it despawned when i left the area to get more. And so have 3 other test horses in each of the lefthand stables... so yea... testing it out currently. Ill post what i find out, and post what u find out too plz! I lost a saddle and a fast horse! ;(
Oh and i forgot to mention that i had also thought that it was a lighting issue bcuz the stable that kept the horse was more lit than the ones taht would despawn horses, but ive confirmed that lighting has nothing to do with it. They still despawned.

People have lost named horses/donkeys. So that may not be the simple fix...
