    Two sides to this.

    1) Servers cost money. People who donate are literally paying the bills and allowing the server to continue. Without them, the server very well may not exist.

    2) If you don't like a server, don't use it. If enough people do that then the 3 people donating will just kill each other over and over until they get bored and quit, and the servers go under. Hopefully you'll find a better server or get together with some friends and make your own.

    3) The internet is full of jerks. Unless you personally know every single person on a server the chances of having a good time are almost nil.

Oops, that was 3 sides. :)

The other option is to pay for your slot and then not get it because someone who's not supporting the server is playing. It sucks to get kicked, but you gotta cater to the guys paying your bills.

Nobody's getting rich running Minecraft servers. Most of them are using the money they get from this "scheme" to simply have to pay less. Complaining that you don't have 24/7 access to what they're paying for when you're not paying for it is... well... It's not the correct course of action. Let's leave it at that :)

What will you do for your next map?

    I'm retired. :)

    Quote from Keybounce

Also: Re-reading the OP, you say that it's possible to collect the dirt. How do you keep it from just dropping down into the void?

Hold something (wood blocks, probably) in your hand and dig the dirt. Then place the block immediately. The dirt will (usually) pop straight up and you can grab it. Even works with slabs.

    Quote from Keybounce

(EDIT: Yes, I know you said you were done, but really, it's just a matter of time ... you'll be back ...)

Looks who's back. Back again. No, I'm actually not *back* per-se, just visiting the old digs.

Wow! OceanBlock survives! Nicely done, Slytherite, keeping the fires burning. I'll admit I totally dropped through a hole in the Bedrock for quite some time. I haven't played MC in about 3 months and haven't been to the forums for probably 6 or more so I didn't even know this was going on. Good to see all the names still here.

Megatrain, the last thing I did in Minecraft was set up a MegaVillage for a MP server I was on, so they could trade anything for anything :) I'll have to watch your The End video.

I've been thinking about posting my version of Oceanblock here as I am not sure it actually warrants a new thread as it is just an updated version of an ongoing map.

Should I start a new thread or continue it here?

I say post a new thread. That way if someone has a problem with it they can ask there for help. If several people ask here about several maps, it could get quite confusing which map was which.

Hey 5thHorseman, I actually did manage to update Oceanblock to 1.7....and I named it OceanBlock 5.0! You can find my thread here! (As per your request for me to start my own thread.) Look at it and see if you like it, and feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the work! I've updated the first post. I like the idea for the spawn room. :)

Well thats sad, I was looking forward to an Oceanblock 5.0, I may be able to tinker with it and update it for 1.7 if that is ok with you 5thHorseman...

I not only don't mind this, I encourage it! Make your own thread for it and post here and I'll update the first post. I will link to all versions posted here and won't have a ton of time to devote to checking them out, so will preferentially list maps from names I recognize and maps reported to be good.

(this is essentially a duplicate of what I posted in my OceanBlock thread)

Okay I've gone from worried that it would happen to resigned that it was inevitable to now able to accept it: I have no desire at all to continue doing anything with Minecraft. It's sad, but I've just moved on. There is not enough time to play every game I want to play and I have to cut some out, and Minecraft - after literally years - is one of those games.

That said, Pancake 1.2 in its current state will always be available for download. I have no plans on removing it from the server its on and that server is my own personal site that I have no plans on discontinuing, ever. I will also continue to visit the forum and this thread in particular, of course.

Also, if someone would like to take a try at maintaining the map and bringing it up to the current version, I wholeheartedly support that. I may even play it, eventually :)

Sorry to anybody who feels led on by this. I truly thought that the past few weeks' of extra spare time would afford me a chance to work on the map, but I've just had 0 desire to do so. And I don't think that will change.

I've been thinking of splitting the initial block into 2 blocks, one for you and one for the villagers, since they introduced farting (I mean humming) sounds. Maybe put those guys on a small 1x4 island with 2 trees. With them standing there, it shouldn't spawn mobs (See OceanBlock 2.0). Then I could have 5 trees on the main island.

Dunno. Gives me stuff to think about before I get that spare time I'm looking forward to starting on Friday.

    Quote from MegaTrain

I think keeping the "style" of the starting island is kind of important, so it feels like a new version of the same map, instead of a new map that just happens to play similarly to the old one.

That's why I was renaming it :) However, with the unanimous votes for OceanBlock 5.0, it's clear where I should put my efforts! :D

Plus, you don't have to do something funny with the end portal and/or obsidian.
True dat. I hadn't figured out an end portal solution. The nether won't be big enough for a Pancake-style mini scavenger hunt for portal frames.

And don't worry, I love giant jungle trees too. You'll be getting a jungle tree in the overworld no matter what I do :D

I personally would also have to agree with sticking with Oceanblock...the chest thing is just asking to have the villagers drown while you try to get established...

Actually I learned from OceanBlock... 2.0 I think it was... that if left undisturbed the villagers will happily stand on a tiny island forever. I don't know if it'll work with a chest but I don't see why it wouldn't.

But my biggest question to you will be in a spoiler tag for those that haven't played the current version very long...

Why do you feel the need to put the Blaze spawner all the way at the very bottom? it makes it very annoying to build a decent blaze farm out of it...

    I'll answer in a spoiler...
Because reasons. Mostly because the Overworld is 64 deep. Plus, you gotta admit that first time you looked down that pit you freaked out. But I could see lowering both, or one, to only 32. I don't like the idea of lowering the overworld that low because of slime spawning.

    Quote from MegaTrain

"All the same resources", meaning everything that makes up the current Oceanblock island? Dirt, sand, ores, saplings, mushrooms, obsidian, end portal, grass, mycelium?

    I said "essentially" :)

But yeah. Except probably obsidian, which would possibly make a layer of the ocean floor, or perhaps a 1x1x10 pillar directly under spawn. So you can't make a nether portal until you get a diamond pick.

Unless you're changing the way the map plays in some more substantial way, I don't see the purpose in requiring the player to pull dirt out of a chest and build the initial island manually, instead of a small island already being there.

The purpose is that they keep adding frickin' trees to Minecraft. 1 was great. Make a block, put a tree on it. 4 was a challenge but sure, 4 sides to a square, 4 trees. Sure there are giant oaks and 2x2 jungle trees but those are abberations. Now there are 6 saplings and over a dozen different tree types. And who knows where it'll go next. OceanHex? OceanNonagon? OceanIcosahedron? I'm being a bit hyperbolic but you see the point, I hope.

I'm sure there is more to your idea than just that, so I'd be interesting in seeing what you had in mind.

Actually there's not much more to it than that. I'd make for a cleaner, more consistent start point and make upgrading to a new version a simple matter of modifying the contents of the chests and possibly the villagers' trades.

    Maybe I'm being lazy :)

Those two ideas sound interesting. I personally would rather OceanBlock 5.0 over OceanChest 1.0, but would play either regardless. Either way have you solved the problem of slime and zombie pigman not spawning or are you yet to figure out a solution?

I *think* so, but I thought so before so no promises :)

It's on the list of stuff to check before releasing, but if I simply can't get it I'll be releasing anyway.

The weird thing is, I never had any problems getting either to spawn.

Haha no need to pm me. I reply here probably more frequently than I check those :)

I should have a decent amount of spare time in November, literally starting on the first and going maybe as far as Thanksgiving. I'd be surprised if I didn't have the time to make the new OceanBlock at that time.

I'm thinking currently one of 2 ways. 4.2 is essentially out of the question as there are too many changes in 1.7.x

I'd love to hear opinions on:
1: OceanBlock 5.0, a new island with one of each tree and some Nether changes.
2: OceanChest 1.0, which essentially has all the same resources but they're in a chest floating in the ocean and you spawn on it. Maybe 2 chests, and the other one has the 2 villagers standing on it.

Wow thanks MegaTrain. I knew about a couple of those (leads, clay, and I'd heard about more biomes but not specifics). I've sticked your post and will refer to it when updating. These are some pretty big changes to the game and may necessitate an OceanBlock 5.0, even. Who knows?

The main reason for the "16 of each color wool" was to prove that you could make all colored dyes in sufficient quantity, or have sufficient quantity of sheep to sheer them multiple times. The second one of those really isn't important and I could see asking for - for example - all 16 colors be represented (or is it more than that?) and at least 5 (10 if there are 32 total colors) each of colored glass, wool, and clay. That way you would have to show you could do each, but not be QUITE so grindy as having to do a full spread of all 3 types. Though I have no idea how I'd write THAT down in the goals book.

Speaking of the book, I ESPECIALLY like the idea of achievements. If I could programatically specify ALL achievements that would be pretty sweet. It's something I've wanted in both this and Pancake for quite some time.
