posted a message on Help me figure out what my FPS bottleneck is

    i5-3570k@4GHz,16GB DDR3, GTX1060 6GB, 120GB SSD, Win7 x64, Java x64, latest stable Optifine for 1.14.

TLDR; 256x textures + any shader (on Lite setting) + populated areas (plain animal farms) = below 60 FPS.

What bothers me is that in those areas, my CPU and GPU seem under-utilized, where GPU sits at around 30-40% usage, and not a single CPU core is above 50%. There is obviously a bottleneck somewhere, but I can't figure it out. In fact, when I do get high FPS, both CPU and GPU areused more. But in some areas it's as if something chokes everything, and usage falls down (aka I'm not hitting CPU/GPU "overused").

I tried a bunch of popular shaders, from Lite to High, doesn't make a difference (aside from more GPU usage in some cases).

Without 256x, FPS goes to around 80 FPS in those areas, which also seems a bit low.

I'm playing vanilla SSP (OptiFine is the only mod). I prefer ProjectLUMA or Sildurs Vibrant/Standard Lite.

Any ideas what is choking my PC in those areas?

The dynamic Camera Exposure has a too wide range, it's extremely noticeable!

On default, it's too slow to adjust, on faster speed it is distracting, and on very slow it takes ages for brightness to return to baseline...

And exposure multiplier doesn't help much, it just sets the overall brightness of the game up or down.

Please add option to remove Camera Exposure ON/OFF, or reduce the brightness range of exposure.

The usual answer to problems like these is to make sure your graphics card drivers are up-to-date, but assuming that isn't an issue, you might see a benefit from turning of setting your framerate to unlimited, turning off v-sync (I know, I know, just hear me out) and playing with your settings. Turn on/off VBOs, fast math, stuff like that. Your GPU is a bit older so there might be something there that's not playing well with your hardware.

How much is your framerate varying by? Minecraft isn't exactly known for its rock-solid steady framerates, even where the hardware should be more than powerful enough to keep things steady. You could also try a different shaderpack (not based on Chocapic13's shaders, SEUS is one good option) and see if you notice the same issues.

Worst case was 35fps, usually between 40-55fps, with random dips and hops around that. Tried VBO, math, sync, whatever I found. Tried KUDA and Continuum on Low/Lite, the Lagless one (but it's basically invisible and has a weird tint), and didn't see much more stability, even more lag AFAIK.

For what it's worth, nothing improves in-door (the base or a small cave), like it's rendering everything in the FOV+Distance, seen and unseen. Even looking straight up or down doesn't help (you'd expect a jump to 60)...

PS: I'm asking here because I'm using these shaders the longest, should I make a post elsewhere?

Why should it pump out 60fps?

It all depends on what resources your gpu and cpu and your ram is useing.

Some parts of your system requires memory to run, and you can impossible have a pc running at 100%.

But what happens if you choose a 64x64 texture pack?

Because I'm not seeing a specific bottleneck?

    GPU isn't hitting 90-100% usage.

    GPU VRAM isn't hitting 90-100%.

    CPU isn't hitting 90-100%.

A single CPU thread or core isn't hitting 90-100%.

RAM and swap file aren't full.

    Temperatures are fine.

As an example, more modern GPU or CPU intensive games do hit that 90-100%
in one or more areas - thus the FPS drop - but that usage isn't present here with
x256+Low shader, yet FPS is unstable 60...

And yes, I get more FPS with lower view distance or a lower resolution texture pack, but that doesn't help me.

    Help me out please:

I have a solid PC (GTX760 2gb, i5-3470 3.2ghz, 8gb RAM, SSD) and I can't get a stable 60 FPS with an x256 texture pack and Lite or Low shader version.

    View distance is 12+.

Every lighting option is turned off, shadows are x0.5, no AA or AF.

Im'm using the latest Optifine for 1.11.2 and a texture pack x256 without POM/PBR.

    3gigs allocated to singleplayer MC.

My GPU usage never goes above 70%, and CPU is around 60% - it should pump out 60 FPS.

    Any ideas?

Just wondering if it's me, or the blocks with snow on them haven't been implemented in R3D Smooth 256x?

Their sides revert to old 8x8 blocks...

PS: same goes for Yellow Flower, seems 8x8 still?

Can someone explain the difference between Java Heap Size and Direct Memory Size and why doesn't it affect ingame memory size allocation?

    Why are these options present?

Having problems with black screen main menu, overloaded GPU RAM, severe FPS hiccups, all with default settings - I never had these before 1.5...

IMO these new options such as Bias, AA and MC1.5 broke MCPatcher...

I am getting 1-2 FPS with Sphax (used to have 60-80 prior 1.5), do I still need to use MCPatcher?

Tried with MCPatcher with default options, it worked fine when I switched to Sphax BDCraft 256x and played a bit. Now, when I quit and start the game, I get black screen instead of main menu.

    I can't Create Chunks.

MCEdit 0.1.5 seems like it's doing it's job, but doesn't create any.

MCEdit 0.1.6RC display SessionLockLost error, can't start generator.
