I'm sorry, could you hear my laughter all the way from here? I think the police have been phoned a noise disturbance complaint...several states over. :laugh.gif:

It doesn't fit the genre? Are you kidding me, or do you just live under a rock?

Fable, Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, The Dresden Files, Anita Blake, Dungeons and Dragons...

They are all fantasy that has guns. I could go on. Maybe you were unaware, but "fantasy" is not tied to any specific time period. In the Star Wars universe, you could say that The Force is a fantasy element. Fantasy can be any era or technology level, and saying that Minecraft is fantasy genre proves absolutely nothing. Please try thinking before you post, in future.

ive seen your posts on alot of threads, and, anon, i can honestly say hat you are a pretty intelligent guy.

I don't oppose guns because they don't fit with theme historically, or because they don't make sense with the current tech. They do on both accounts.
The fact is I just don't like the concept. I believe I don't stand alone when I say: Mine Craft is NOT an FPS. I'm not saying that guns or even one gun would make it that, but...
I don't like the idea that a person can aim, shoot, and their target will be hit. Arrows give time for a player to evade. Even crossbows won't be UN-dodge-able. Guns are too overpowered. Even if it takes a long time to reload, and they do a lot of damage, you can still aim, fire from a good distance away, reload and fire again before your enemy even knows where you are. They give the game-play a whole different feel.
    To sum up my viewpoint:
It's not about theme here. It's about the game-play mechanic.

i find it really annoying how everyone seems to say guns ruin minecraft, so is alist of reasons people say that, and why they are idiots.

    MINECRAFT IS A FANTASY GAME
err, so? plenty of fantasies use primitive guns. take warhammer or fable, plenty of guns, but they're still fantasy games. if anything guns make those sort of games seem more fantastical. besides, if people can make advanced killing machines and super computers, then a simple arquebus or flintlock shouldn't be to hard. To prove my point, i'll make a list of fantasies that include guns AND show how loose the whole idea of fantasy is. Fable, Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000, Final Fantasy, Dungeons and Dragons, World of Warcraft, Star Wars, ect.

MINECRAFT IS SET IN MEDIEVAL TIMES
What's your point? There were guns in medieval times, there were guns before medieval times.
Besides, Minecraft isn't set in medieval times anyway, it has electricity, TNT, jukeboxes, all things invented after medieval times.

MINECRAFT IS SUPPOSED TO BE INNOCENT
i've seen plenty of kids games that use modern weapons and just change the name or impact slightly to keep it innocent. now read this scenario. during the day steve gets hungry, so he horrifically slaughters an innocent animal and feeds on its carcass. he also kills sheep for his own private comfort. at night demons and creatures of the night come out of the ground to do the same to steve. the next day steve heads into a cave, kills all the wildlife living inside and takes apart the tunnels just to find precious gems. later he travels to another dimension and kills people there (who never did anything except look at him) just to steal some gold. how much of this sounds innocent to you?

    MINECRAFT IS A BUILDING GAME
    see above.

    GUNS WOULD BE OVERPOWERED
i think this guy made it pretty clear that they wouldn't. even if they were added :Notch: would find ways to avoid having trigger-happy maniacs on smp.

    MINECRAFT IS NOT AN FPS
minecraft is an fps, it's in first person, therefore it is.

    MINECRAFT JUST SHOULDN'T HAVE GUNS
okay, seriously!? if you say this then you're either a troll, were raised by a troll or a just really stupid.

    NOTCH SAID NO GUNS EVER
he said no modern/futuristic guns ever, direct me to his post and i'll prove it. Besides, Notch's word no longer counts for anything, Jeb's in power now.

still think minecraft shouldn't have guns? if yes, you're either a troll, were raised by a troll or are just really stupid.

The only good reason not to have guns is because they're not really needed, for the moment Jeb should focus on more important things, but when the time comes guns would be a pretty cool addition.

posted a message on new dimension the rether
I like everything except the name, :Notch: should add this and the aether so we have all the religeous dimensions (nether=hell, end=purgatory, aether=heaven, this=limbo).
btw, what dimension is the ether? do you mean the overworld? the void? something else entirely?

    Quote from Thorian

You basically just copied Terraria and edited it a bit.

1.0 is the final big Minecraft version. Notch will not be adding anything but bug fixes afterwards. Also, wishlists are against the rules.

Ontop of that, this idea isn't good for a dimension, it should be rare to find these temples within a swamp biome if it ever got added.

No, notch will continue to update the game. as for the world, i say this about every dimension suggestion, but mc dimentions are based on religious afterlifes, nether is hell, end is purgatory, skylands/aether is heaven and void is limbo. your ideas are okay, but that should be a new biome, not a new dimension.

good idea, it'll end all the statements about the world being flat so nothing has to make sense (die-hard fans use this as an excuse when people say some stuff should be more realistic).

posted a message on The Core: New Dimension Idea!!!!!!
barely anyone seems to notice the dimension theme. we have the nether for hell, the end is either purgatory or limbo and the void is whatever the end isn't (if the end is purgatory then the void is limbo or vice versa). the next dimension mc needs is a heaven. ive seen alot of world suggestions that dont use think about that system at all.

posted a message on Enderdragon Quest
the enderdragon definitely needs some kind story. as for npcs they should give you quests and sell you stuff. both chucks idea and zojus work, they could even both be used at once. quests could come in various forms ranging from 'find the farmer a pumpkin' to 'clear the mine of cave spiders and their spawners so the village may find additional minerals'. there could even be multiple ways to gain quests ranging from 'talk to the priest' to 'a map with a message found on an island' to 'a strange demon at the peak of a nether fortress'. changing the villager skin might be going a bit far, though.

People who are saying it's "too much like an RPG" and that magic "doesn't fit"...

    Give it up already!

    Minecraft has potion crafting.
    Minecraft has enchantments.
Minecraft has mystic portals to other worlds.
Minecraft has Zombies, Skeletons, Slimes, and Dragons.
Minecraft has levels and experience points.

Minecraft is a fantasy RPG. Deal with it.

finally! someone who actually gets that. mc is and always was an rpg, :Notch: always wanted to make it an rpg so quit complaining everyone.

i don't think it should use the basic shoot fire from your hands type magic though. we need something a bit more original. (shoot :VV: from hand could be used in adventure, though)
