Do let us know what you find out. The central portal should always take you back to your last bed or, failing that, back to the world spawn. It won't necessarily take you back to the stronghold unless you slept in a bed there to set your respawn point.

Yep, it took me back to my last bed this time. My bed must have been moved by another player the last time I came back. One thing I have noticed is that when you get close enough to a return portal, you see a purple beam going up out of it. This seems to be just the first time you come close though, because when I left a the return portal and came back, there was not another beam of light. The couple that I have found have been within a couple hundred blocks or so. One was on another nearby, but separate island.

I'm on an extended visit to the End right now. I'll be sure to let you know what happens when I come back. Yes, usually when I've gone through the exit portal I end up back in the stronghold, which is also where I last slept. The only difference in this last departure was the use of one of those new return portals. My mission is to find four more Elytra so my buddies have a repair set, so it might be next weekend before I'm able to test again.

I used one of the new return portals for the first time just recently. It takes you to the spot where you first spawn to fight the dragon. Then I headed over to the portal that generally takes you back to the stronghold. Instead it took me back to my main base (Mansion #1), which is not the first base we built near the world spawn point. This was also not the last bed I had slept in. I also didn't get that message about my bed being moved or obstructed. I want to try it again and see what happens. Also, how can you not LOVE the shulker boxes? It fixes all kinds of storage issues and allows you to clean out an entire abandoned mineshaft without having to make several trips to bring out all the loot (ores, rails, treasure, etc). Personally, I can't have enough shulker boxes. I let the other players on the Realm have the elytra I found because what I really wanted were those boxes! That improvement alone has given me incentive to spend more time in the end.

posted a message on Possibly a bad idea

So I've kinda been on a farm building streak with the new Realm. Now I want to do a zombie pigman farm. I don't want to go above the roof of the nether and I don't want a lot of redstone components. I was thinking I would build a trap around a portal that is specifically for the farm and not for general exploration or transportation. This means a safe entry and escape. So how big do I make my spawning platforms in relation to player position? I thought of maybe doing 3 or 4 platforms. Ghasts won't be able to see the player from the "waiting" area, so I'm not concerned with that. Will half slabs beyond the platforms up to a 128 block radius be sufficient to get my spawn rate up? I found an area with lava lakes nearby, so the half slabbing won't be too terribly bad. Is there something I'm forgetting or not thinking through all the way? Is this the worst idea ever?

Draining the first water temple in my new Realm. What took me about two weeks on the old Realm has taken us about 3 days. I think the whole thing will be drained and torn down in about a week. It is so nice to have a team.

After bringing back a full caravan of 10 llamas, which took me not only several MC days but also a few RL days, I decided my old cramped farm wasn't going to cut it anymore and decided to expand it. This is the result. (The resource pack is Norzeteus Space, if anyone's wondering)

Considering the difficulty in rounding up a caravan and getting them to move together, I'm wondering what the real purpose or advantage of llamas are. You can't control them when you ride them. I found a huge mass of them, but nearby there were donkeys so I opted for grabbing a donkey over the caravan of llamas. It seems like they are fairly useless and just more of a novelty or decorative animal.

I may be imagining things, but it seems like I find more diamonds when I get further away from my spawn point. I also do the tunnel method. My main one is three wide and then my little tunnels run off to either side of that one. I also generally just keep going along a tunnel until my inventory is full.

    Quote from IronMagus»

Ah yes, that could explain it too. If the server admin disabled mobGriefing, then villagers won't be able to harvest or plant crops, or pick up items. If that's the case, it's gonna put a serious damper on your villager breeding endeavors. The only way to make them "willing" without picking up items is by trading with them. Every. Single. Time.

I only thought of this because I turned mine off on my Realm because we had a player that kept engaging with creepers around other people's builds. Later it caused issues when my sister and I were trying to make a village from scratch. I tried to turn it back on, at least for a short period to get us started, but for some reason I could never get it to work. So we just did a crap load of trading and healed more zombies. The trading gave us emeralds at least to trade for stuff we really wanted.

Do you have mob griefing disabled? If you aren't the admin, an easy way to test would be to make a creeper explode. No hole = no mob griefing.

posted a message on 50 Spiders in one block 1.11

This time I actually counted. There are 50 spiders in that space. They are all hanging out at the top and even if you take into account that the iron bars give them another partial block to occupy, it still seems like they should have started dying off. If I AFK after counting to 50 and come back after a few minutes, they are moving and down in that space, but any new ones coming from the spawner don't cause any deaths. I used to just destroy these spawners because the cave spiders were a pain in the ass, but I might start keeping one or two.

posted a message on Tips for kill whiter please!

Just did this in hard vanilla for the first time last night. I had protection III enchanted diamond armor, except for the helmet. Smite V sword. Power III bow that I ended up not using. Four buckets of milk, couple potions of strength, and a couple of healing. I spawned him down by the bedrock and far away from any caves or lava that he could break through to. I only mined out a room just big enough for him to spawn and then did escape tunnels where I could run and drink the milk and potions and eat. The funny part was that when I killed him, he blew up an area that had a silverfish block and those almost killed me. There were about 8 to 10 of them and the wither had taken me down to about 4 hearts and I was out of healing potion. So maybe don't do this under an Extreme Hills Biome. :)

    Hey CheeriOSPlays,

    Thanks for the thoughtful reply.

Ran another test with the dogs. This time I hit the golem directly and the dogs did the rest. He didn't even try to fight back against them. He did try to get me though. I think my popularity in the village must be low.

As far as the spider trap goes, there is a two block high collection area. It appears that when they climb and fill up the top block, the additional spiders that come in stay in the bottom block. So, hypothetically I can collect 48 at a time before they start dying. I kind of want to modify the zombie trap I have to see if they will do the same thing. Right now they drop into the 1 block x 2 block collection area. But since they track the player, I'm wondering if I just let them walk into the trap if they will space themselves out if I allow for two or more blocks for them to stand in. Another test to try. Although, I might open a single player world in creative and then switch to survival to test it.

Located two Woodland Mansions that aren't too terribly far apart and built a rail track between the two. The second was so much cooler than the first, but we have put a lot more work into the first. The first floor is almost completely carpeted. My partner in crime healed some zombie villagers and I helped make the "villager pen," which caused them to breed and attract zombies in hoards. This has worked somewhat like an XP farm since they gather on the other side of a fence and make for easy pickings. I really should build some kind of trap, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I did manage to make a successful mob grinder with a cave spider spawner. I haven't counted exactly, but it seems like I'm able to get more than 24 in the trap without them dying like they're supposed to with the update. I have not been back to the main base to see how the update has affected my zombie xp farm. Still really hoping for a skeleton spawner, but haven't found one yet.

Discovered something new (to me). We decided we were going to kill the villagers we didn't want, so I went into the villager pen and took out a couple nitwits. I didn't realize an iron golem had spawned in the upstairs of their apartment building. When I went up the stairs to check for more nitwits he didn't kill me, but my dogs were none too happy with him. I was afraid he would kill them and I had only just tamed the two and not bred any more, but he didn't appear to hurt them at all and just let them kill him. At least their tails weren't low and I didn't hear any yelps during the fighting. It seems like he could have taken them out fairly easily. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm planning on breeding a few more dogs and running another test. Ideally, I'll be able to watch the action next time. Last time I stayed downstairs so the golem couldn't clobber me. A new one spawned almost immediately outside the apartment building, so it should be easier to watch the action next time.
