My boyfriend spent HOURS doing this. He discovered the babies can escape through fences. So he built walls and put a little pool in their pen. After he got the scutes and made the helmet, he decided it was a waste of time. I think that getting the stuff to make the potion and/or enchant a helmet would have taken a lot less time and worked better.

Does anyone know if the drops change whether the mob spawns originally as a drowned or if it starts out as a zombie? I have a village nearby that attracts lots of zombies, so I was thinking of exploiting that somehow, but if I'm not going to get a trident out of it, I'd rather not.

Wow...I can't believe it's been almost a year and I've only died 4 times!

So my Realm is expiring...I talked it over with the boyfriend last night and we decided to just download the world and play on a LAN since we now live together and his kids seem to have abandoned Minecraft. So then we toyed with the idea of starting a new world for just us and I discovered the customized options button! Apparently this has been around a while and I totally missed it, but I haven't been able to find a lot of info on what the different tweeks do. The Minecraft Wiki page was somewhat helpful, but does anyone have an explanation or link to some such that describes the possible results of certain combinations? We aren't planning on changing anything with the ores, mostly we are interested in tweeking the terrain that generates.
I thought it might be nice to have larger biomes, although it is kind of nice to be able to find a bunch of them close by for wood types and such for building.
If the biomes were larger, would it limit the generation of things like Woodland Mansions and Water Temples, or would we have a higher chance of finding such structures closer together in one large biome?
I was also thinking of limiting the river and lake generation somewhat to make horse travel more convenient and finding a suitable squid-farm spot a little easier.
Anyone have any sage advice?

Extreme Hills can be fun once you have some resources for stairs and scaffolding and such, but to start you could just clear out a little room inside the mountain. I've always wanted to make rooms and tunnels that have different exits all over the mountains.

Just in case, some advice is to always fight it below ground, and bring a shield and a water bucket. Iron golems also help.
While underground, the Wither is much easier to keep up with, as it can't fly high up and require you to use the bow, nor can it fly away and kill every animal it sees. A shield can block the wither skulls it creates and their Wither effect, and the water bucket can help prevent explosions and even more rough terrain. Iron golems can attack the Wither, so a few would be helpful.
Yes, I've always done it underground. Usually bring a bunch of milk and potions. I stand down a 1x2 tunnel from his room and shoot arrows until he can't fly and then move in with the sword. I generally use an old mining tunnel that doesn't have lava or caves nearby. I still haven't figured out the shield thing very well, so I just used my best blast protection armor. Lately, I've wanted to try and spawn him in the end to see if maybe the endermen would be a distraction for him. I might try it in a test world first, just to see what happens. I might have to try the water thing.

1 IGN: DuplicitDragon
2 Age (it doesn't matter, so just be honest): 40
3 Skype (Send me a PM if you’re uncomfortable posting it - Skype is our primary medium for communication, and will be used to conduct an application 'interview' prior to applicants being added to the whitelist): I know I opened one at one time....I hardly ever use it, in fact, I had to look up my user name. It's my first and last name, so I'll pm it.
4 What time zone/part of the world are you from? Oregon, Pacific Time Zone
5. Are you going to school (and what type) or are you working (what's your job)? I will be completing my BA in Accounting in December. I also work in a CPA office. Until I complete school my play time will probably be a little sporadic depending on my class load and whether or not it is tax season.
6 Have you been banned on a server before(wont effect your chances, so just be honest)? No
7 A little about your life: Been through a lot in 40 years. The worst was losing my dad, the best was my two sons (they are 5 and 3)
8 What’s your experience with Minecraft? (when did you start, how long have you been playing?) About two years or so. I saw my son playing on his tablet and it just looked like fun, so I bought the PC version and got hooked. You know, after I got scared by a few villagers, fell in lava several times, and got destroyed by a zombie hoard.
9: what are some great stuff that you've built, What would you say you're best at? Redstone? big buildings? etc.? I started a giant castle with my sister that we didn't get to finish. I've been told I'm pretty good at creative builds (aesthetics and details).
10 How often will you play? Are you daily? once a week? and for how long? It all depends on what's going on. Probably at least a few hours a week. I tend to bing when there is a school break.
11 If you have a YouTube channel, please post it's info here.(how often do you upload, subs, etc. etc.)
12 Past experience on other vanilla servers? I joined a mature server a while back and really liked it, but then it got shut down. I've tried a couple others, but just too many people and not very friendly. I was more interested in kind of getting to know the people I was playing with and being part of a helpful community. The couple other servers I tried just didn't feel right. I wanted to play "with" people, not just alongside them.
13 What is your favorite block? Mossy Brick.
14: Anything/extra information? Feel free to post pictures of your past builds here! Couple shots of my library in the castle build with my sister. Probably my favorite thing I've done so far. That was a lot of cow killing and sugar harvesting. I can't remember how many bookcases it ended up being....I wanna say something like a couple thousand.

Just don't forget to light up the inside of the buildings you trap them in. I made the mistake of keeping villagers "safe" without lighting up the inside of the house....and well...you can guess how that worked out.

Killed the Wither by myself for the first time this weekend. I've always done it with at least one other person. Turns out it is easier to anticipate his movements when he is only tracking one player. However, it was after all the kids were in bed, I was alone downstairs, and afterwards I was shaking a little. It reminded me of the days when I first started playing and villagers and squid scared the bejesus out of me.

I built one of those mob farms way up in the sky that drop them into a 2x2 area. If you set up the platform correctly, the skeleton can track you and shoot a creeper that is in front of him when he tries to shoot you. It takes some half slab work to get the angle right. Basically, the mobs have to kind of drop onto a pedestal that is higher than where the player is standing. I've gotten loads of records this way. My last one I messed up on the platform height. Rather than rebuild I used a combination of a half slab and a trap door to open up a line of sight for the skeleton in the "drop tube" part that wouldn't let the mobs out. The only thing is that this fix sometimes lets out kid zombies. When the Realms servers are back up I could take a few screen shots if you'd like.

Impressive. I like the way the inside of the hill was incorporated. I've been toying with the idea of doing something similar on my Realm.

Has anyone tried the premade maps on Realms? My team and I decided to just take a little break from our world. We tried a couple different maps. The lost civilization one was pretty cool, but mining was a little strange. There were no cave tunnels anywhere. When we went branch mining we found big cave rooms, but not cave tunnels going anywhere. And even though you start out with some cool structures and things, it isn't too much different than starting a new world. Except that I thought it was more annoying for some reason. Anyone else want to share their thoughts and experiences?

I'm 40. My family has always played games and were one of the few families to have a computer when I was young. My boyfriend (46) and his kids play Minecraft with me. I'd like my son to play with us, but he is a little too young just yet to be trusted in multi-player.
