During the day they spawn on top of high mountains in stone form and are only found in mountainous biomes. They can be killed in this form, but only if you have a gold pick axe.
At night they come to life and attack the player. They can be killed with swords or arrows at night but it's not very effective - a golden pick axe is much better. They attack by swooping down at the player. After an unsuccessful attack they will land for a few seconds, giving the player a chance to deal major damage with their pick.
I have two ideas for drops: first, gargoyle teeth. They can be used to make arrows that slow down mobs and deal damage. Second, tiger eye gemstones. These are used to make stone sentries that work with redstone.
Jun 15, 2011Every hostile mob does something unique.Posted in: Survival Mode
- Creepers explode and destroy your precious creations. They're also the only "smart" mob.
- Slimes split into smaller slimes when attacked.
- Spiders climb walls.
- Skeletons strafe and shoot.
- Spider jockies are two mobs in one.
- Ghasts fly, shoot projectiles and destroy netherrack.
- Zombies go "uuuugh."
So we know this new mob will also do something unique. Possibly it could combine the abilities of other mobs, like ghasts and spider jockies, but I'd like to think it's something completely new. Possibly a flying mob outside the nether? Dragons are a possibility. Maybe it's a huge mob, like the giants? I don't think it's an underwater mob. Water mobs are pretty easy to avoid and that makes them less "scary." Anyway, enough speculation. Here's a list of "scary" things we haven't seen mobs do yet:
- Break blocks with their bare hands.
- Open doors. (Ohgodnoplease)
- Pass through walls like ghosts.
- Camouflage with their environment or turn invisible.
- A mob that hovers several blocks above the ground and dive bombs the player (a melee flying mob).
- Alternatively, a mob that jumps very high.
- A mob that burrows.
- Mimic passive mobs to trick the player.
- Gigantic ground mobs, aka "boss mobs".
- Start fires.
I'm not saying that these are things Notch would implement. A ghost mob sounds pretty unfair to me, as there would be no way to defend from it. If we can guess what the mob does, we can figure out what it might be. Personally, I'd really love a flying melee mob.
May 19, 2011I have a question.Posted in: Survival Mode
I have a creeper rug near what will become my fireplace in SMP once the nether is implemented. The wool blocks are about three blocks away from the fireplace. Is this safe and, if not, how can I make it safe?
May 19, 2011I'm thinking we tame dragons or some other flying mode of transport and when you reach the roof of the normal sky a loading screen pops up and transports you to the sky dimension. By this logic you could also simply build a giant tower to heaven. What do you think?Posted in: Survival Mode
May 8, 20110utlawGrrl posted a message on Why do zombie and skeleton burn in day while others cant?I think Creepers are actually a type of golem. Evidence:Posted in: Survival Mode
1. Their only goal is to destroy the player (or any mob that dares to **** them off) at whatever cost.
2. They drop sulfur rather than anything organic.
3. Notch has stated that Creepers are "crunchy, like dry leaves." This could indicate that Creepers are created with a mixture of sulfur and plant matter (possibly also bits of stone, which would fly out during their explosion and hurt the player).
If Creepers are golems they are neither alive nor dead (nor undead), so sunlight would have no affect on them.

It looked like he got hit by it but it didn't do any damage. Also, is it my imagination, or did the charged creeper appear to move faster than the normal creeper?

Jul 1, 2011I've been getting a lot of PMs for information on some of my creations, like my slime farm and mushroom farm. Since I don't have the tools to make video tutorials on how to build them, I spent the past few days making blueprints and image tutorials for some of my stuff. Take it or leave it, I had a lot of fun making these images. I'm also up for any suggestions you might have!Posted in: Redstone Discussion and Mechanisms
NEW! Dungeon Grinder (Zombie/Skeleton)
Jun 19, 2011DAY 1Posted in: Fan Art
I give the last wave goodbye, as I see Mother wiping her face clean of tears.
I've lived in this dungeon for more than four years, and Its time to move on.
As I creep out the cave, I cant help but feel regret.
But I cant let that take control of me, so I continue my new life as I walk into the forest.
Its mid-afternoon when I reach the plains.
I've been told the plains can continue for miles, so I decide to find a place to sleep.
I stumble along a overhang that I can sleep under.
As I plunk my body onto a nearby bed of sand, I notice the sun is beginning to set.
Its so beautiful that I find myself falling asleep to the soft shades of orange in the sky.
I wake up to a dense coat of fog.
I can only see about a yard away before my vision gets distorted.
The fog will only get worse if I wait here, so I continue my journey.
The stories were true about the plains.
I've been walking for more than 2 hours and I've yet to see a brake in the endless flat-land.
Atleast the fog has let up a little, but my visibility is still poor.
I keep looking into my map, trying to find some sort of noticeable landmark.
I ran into a creeper, he told me there's a forest up ahead.
The creeper was right, and I'm out of the plains.
Theres a mountain up ahead, and it doesn't look to hard to climb.
I manage to get to the top without any trouble, and now I have a few of the whole forest.
Its massive, even more then the plains.
I look around for any place to make my home, and I spot a cave, what seems to be a few miles away.
I start heading towards the cave, as I climb down the mountain.
The sun is beginning to set, but it doesn't bother me.
I continue to the cave, but as night comes, I pass out.
I wake up, only to find cuts and scratches all over my body...
What has happened?!
I can't remember anything from last night, and I don't have a clue where I am.
My map seems to be gone to.
Homesick begins to set in, as I have rushing thoughts about my family.
Mother gave me a campus before I left, and I think I'm going to use it.
I'm clearly not ready to live on my own, so I begin following the arrow.
It directs me back into the plains, as I begin to remember my grounds.
Eventually I get back to my home forest, as I make my way back to my dungeon.
I find the path me and my brothers made as a child.
I'm back home.
As I follow the path, I eventually see me cave.
I walk in, only to see...
My dungeon has been destroyed!
I look around and see that all of our things have been stolen!
I panic as I notice I cant find my family anywhere.
I go into a side cave, this is where we would hide if there were any danger.
I see my Mother's disfigured body laying on the ground, shes still alive, but barely.
My Mother says one thing, and then she passes...
She said... "RUN!"
