All the passive mobs. They just love to get in my way and shove me around. However, because I build a lot on cliffs I don't actually see many mobs.
Actually, now that I think about it, when I do build on the ground it's creepers that bother me the most. I can avoid most other mobs by sleeping, but when I wake up the creepers are still there, watching...

That's actually really simple to make but that's a nice job!
Thanks! I didn't look at any designs, so it's all my own work. I've been learning almost entirely through trial and error so even if it is pretty simple I'm still proud of myself. :smile.gif:
Jul 6, 2011This is the second thing I made with red stone more complicated than an iron door. I don't know how to record videos, so I'm using screenshots to explain. I'd love ideas for improvements, like making the trigger less visible.Posted in: Redstone Discussion and Mechanisms
I built the room in a hurry just to see how it would look. Surprisingly for as big as it is it doesn't take up much space, so it could fit just about anywhere. Having a corner within a few blocks is important to hide the wiring. You also need an overhang to hide the top piston, but this could easily be disguised as decoration.
So you flip the switch and...
Here's how I wired it:
Jul 6, 2011I would rather have dragons than silverfish. What could these mobs possibly drop? I'd rather have dragons.Posted in: Discussion
Also, I don't really find this mob "scary." They sound more like an annoyance. Even if they do eat wood that doesn't make them a threat. There will be ways to defend against them, just like every other mob. If we have to have silverfish, can't they just be silver fish? We need more underwater content more than we need tiny annoying bugs.

The only interesting thing I experienced was being struck by lightning. Managed to get a screenshot of it:
That's epic. I'm guessing SMP lag made it last long enough for you to get the shot? I've seen lightning a few times, but it comes and goes so quickly.
Jul 6, 2011I had to log off my server due to epic lag but continued building and experimenting on a single player world. I think Caduceus's design will work best and I thank him for it. In the mean time I came up with a design of my own. I didn't have any help with this and it came out a bulky and a bit odd looking, but it works like a charm.Posted in: Redstone Discussion and Mechanisms
Instead of lava I used four bricks of Netherrack, two of which support torches that turn on and off. When lit up and encased in cobble it's very deadly.
Even though it's probably too big to fit under my porch and I'm going with Caduceus's design anyway I'm extremely proud of my wonky machine, my first baby. It's actually kind of pretty. :happy.gif:

i did it... you trapdoor design is epic it requires so much redstone and repeaters... lots of space but... i got it pics of the FINISH AWESOMENESS
I built something like this but there's a problem. When the horizontal pistons retract the vertical pistons stay in the middle, blocking the fall into the lava pit. How can I fix this?
Jul 5, 2011This is going to go outside my back door. There's a 2x2 cobblestone path leading into the woods from my backdoor so it will blend in perfectly. I set it up in a room in my house so you can get a good view of the basic design. When it's in place it will be wired to a switch in the hall which I can pull from inside, activating the trap and sending the unwelcome intruder to a painful death.Posted in: Redstone Discussion and Mechanisms
Here's what the trap will look like when not in use:
After I pull the trigger the pistons should retract, dumping the victim into a pit of lava underground. There will be glass or cobblestone on the sides of the pit preventing the victim's escape.
I'm a total redstone dummy and I've got no idea how to wire this thing. Can anyone help me out?

So, I got this:
Putting fins on with this looks retarded (They're sideways, not up and down). More like an on top beard.
This makes me want to put the blocks lengthwise, but this makes the bottom and top 'lines' of either dark or colour go stripey instead.
So.. dunno. Still say it's a fish though.
Here's the fish with the fins where they 'logically' make sense, ie: the fish body fits into the hole in the texture. Personally, totally stupid and probably wrong. But I'm 99% sure the body is right.:
A thought occured. Slightly less stupid:
Note that I'm still not using the 3 black tiny rectangles (2x1 each) or 2 of the fin textures. Pretty sure one is a side fin, the other the dorsal, but trying to work out how and where.
Note: every single "silverfish" model so far models the smaller sections of the model as a tiny section between the large sections. Wtf are these people using to texture the top and bottom of their models?
Maybe the "fins" are supposed to wrap around the silverfish, like the electricity around a charged creeper? I don't know, just a guess.
Jul 4, 20110utlawGrrl posted a message on What's the funniest thing that happened to you in minecraftI was building a dam in SMP. It was really deep, so I used dirt to build a roof over the valley where I could pour water. Of course monsters spawned in the darkness. After I covered the roof with water I started removing the dirt, so the water could flow down into the valley of darkness below. I expected monsters to occasionally float to the surface, but as the dam filled they just got crowded into a tighter and tighter space where there was still air. There was a gradual slope on the eastern side of the valley and as I removed the dirt a spider, skeleton and creeper made a break for it. As the water slowly filled in the darkness the skeleton managed to get a shot off, shooting me and knocking me back. The next thing I heard was the creeper hissing for some reason, then an explosion. Took out both the skeleton and the spider.Posted in: Discussion
And all the other monsters drowned.

If I'm playing on peaceful I'll normally explore a bit first, but I like to have my crafting table and a few supplies as early as possible on normal.
