How do you feel about 1.13?

Also, I've been a bit busy, and sometimes can't make up my mind... but I think there really should be more discussion about how the game can be better, and how it may or may not be getting worse. Further than simply "this update ruined it" "no it didn't"... I think servers (in particular), multiplayer, and even simply how people are playing the game have changed as well, and that's not been talked about much at all.

posted a message on Do Dwarves vs Zombies Servers Still Exist?

    No it isn’t factions.

Uberminecraft still runs Dwarves vs Zombies, and is a hub server. I still miss their awesome one world with 1k players though... it used to be just that, and was the biggest server I had seen at the time.

posted a message on How do people get players to come on their servers?

Personally I wouldn’t be interested in a server where you just focus on some grinding task. If the problem is keeping players when you have enough new people joining, you need to change this. You do not need to have a lot of ranks to get more members, and in most servers this isn’t even done (or a good idea). Try making the gamemode more fun in itself and shift the focus. Survival is a good example, it can be fun and player-driven, without many features or customizations set by the server.

    posted a message on smp244 | Semi-Vanilla Survival | Unwhitelisted

smp244 is a new semi-vanilla survival server, with a focus on sandbox and fun through interacting with players. There is intentionally no shop or landclaim, and the spawn is small and cozy. Destructive griefing (destroying other players' builds and hard work) is not allowed. Also to note, some small customizations will be on the server- here's a list of planned and potential features:

    Planned & Potential Features:

    - Night of the zombie

    - Player trading/bartering

    - Groups/parties

    - Craftable leather

    - Chest locks

    Server IP: 192.99.38.215:25576

posted a message on What type of Minecraft server would you like to see coming out?

I would try and make a simple or uncluttered server, but this doesn’t mean it has to be uninteresting. You could make a ninja server (great given your username), a survival server, superflat, a world where you can only play in the nether. There’s a lot of interesting things you can make without it being too complicated; I just wouldn’t recommend adding a ton of unrelated plugins or features. There’s also plenty other of ways you could make your server, but those are a few ideas.

posted a message on Need a partner!

Depending on what you want your server to be, I may be interested in helping. I'm working on publishing my own server soon (I'm also going to start paying for one soon, although it exists with a free host currently), but I can put in some time if you'd like my help and if you're making a good quality server. I could do with hearing your goals and also (if you're willing) how you enjoy the game and what you like to do in it. An example of a server I'd probably say no to is if you're wanting to make a skyblock server like most other owners are making them right now- add a ton of plugins, have it be "unique" by adding a few unusual ones on top or by designing the shop yourself, gameplay is mostly just grinding money and blocks- I would say no as I wouldn't line up with that vision. But if you were making a semivanilla server with quality of old days or a skyblock server focused on exploring a world of floating islands, interacting with other players, and expanding your own rolling green island- then I would be much more likely to agree to help.

I'd say I have everything on your checklist except for the funding part. I'm not really wanting to do that, but what I can do is help you find a good and affordable host, depending on how much RAM you're wanting to have on your server. PebbleHost seems to be very cheap ($1/GB per month), but I haven't tried it yet.

    - Past Experience: I joined many servers as a developer when I was into that. However they would often become corrupted by their staff members and griefed, or if I was able to warn the owner in time, they would add similar staff a few days later. I've learned a lesson from that, and also still do a lot of figuring out of plugins and putting features together. I've also ran my own server at several different points in time, and I've played the game since Beta 1.8.

    - Trolling: I like good humor, but when it comes to harassing regular players or distracting the owner and staff, that isn't something that I do.

    - Plugin Experience: Configuring them isn't very hard unless the config is very hard to follow. I also make simple and advanced plugins, but a large and complex plugin will still be hard to finish coding even if you're good at it.

I will send you my discord upon request.

I didn’t know that water still won’t flow into signs and other blocks, at least if it isn’t placed in it. I think that’s great, as this will keep most traps and mechanisms still working :)

posted a message on Looking for Classic style, uncluttered FactionsMcmmo PvP Server with decent player size

Try and look at it more positively. I miss how the raw game used to make multiplayer fun, and wish there was more options in multiplayer (most of it right now is landclaim or something significantly different from the core game, such as OP prison, skyblock, or OP factions). But there is still fun that can be had on those servers, and there are also uncommon servers that you can find that aren’t doing any of those game modes.

I am making a server which will focus on the sandbox and survival aspects of the game, and hopefully encourage fun from the players rather than fun provided mostly by the server features. The big deal is also that there won’t be landclaim or an economy directly provided by the server, and you start with no items at all. At its ideal I’d like the server to be fun for both peaceful and more challenge-seeking players alike. If you would like to help or join, let me know. You can also make your own server that suits your vision as you described- I highly encourage it!

    Good luck,

posted a message on Idea for raiders

I don’t think this would fit Minecraft universally, but it’s an interesting idea for a mod (you should also check out the Tale of Kingdoms mod, which has a similar thing). Not everyone is into raiding, and this might suddenly make it a world where the player isn’t the only one in singleplayer.

Also, some people do already do this with villagers; I see their villages raided all the time on servers.

posted a message on Is Mojang still enforcing the EULA?

Sometimes I just question or feel bad about reporting a server and it potentially shutting down. Although thinking about that now, the server isn't really getting shut down in most cases; they are just being asked to comply by removing all donation perks that don't meet the terms, and given a deadline. The EULA is most likely still being enforced, there are many servers on the blacklist that did not comply. One of the servers you mentioned actually was told to comply with the EULA and did for a time, and then soon turned around to bring back their mob spawners. I've seen this occur not too uncommonly with such styled servers. The "top" servers on most listings are by far not the best, and follow old "tried and tested" ways of getting donations that are more like the business model of Clash of Clans or other free to play mobile games (basically, let anyone play for free, but give ridiculous or unfair advantages to those that pay). I think servers should instead try and raise the bar if they have the ambition, rather than try to become a large server that's on par or worse than already existing servers. Don't let this deter you; I believe there is the playerbase for simpler, better servers that focus mostly on the game itself, there's just not been enough servers trying to do that.

I also definitely agree with the idea behind Mojang's EULA; they own the assets of the game they make (most of the game), and can say how people can make a profit from that. They also are trying to assure quality to the game, so that it can be about the sandbox and having fun rather than multiplayer being dominated by large servers that aren't even good.

posted a message on Old new player! A quick question or two

To clarify, data packs only change mobs in Bedrock Edition. While there may not be much more visible upcoming things to look forward to, there are still many amazing mods you’ve probably never tried, and new ones coming out every day. There’s plenty to explore in the game’s community, from adventure maps to capture the flag. Remember that you can make your own fun in this game; that is important to not get bored quickly.

P.S. they’ve redone the entire world generation code, hopefully that will make it easier for new mods to customize the world. That is what caused customized to be removed, though.

Are you able to swing your fists? If so, it’s adventure mode. If not, your controls simply changed. To get out of adventure mode, if you don’t mind cheating, open a LAN world with cheats enabled, and then type /gamemode 0.
