Thought I'd post a mini-update. We've made a LOT of progress tonight. Some roads are laid out. Personal claims are being defined. Capital buildings are UNDER WAY. We're getting pretty close to launch. We can't WAIT for your guys' reactions. SQUEEEEEEE
Bribe him with cookies. I wanna get a feel for the land and see where I can stake my claim
Well, after a bit of discussion, I don't think we're going to throw screenshots up JUST yet. (There's really not much to see quite yet anyway.) But trust me when we say, we don't think anyone's going to get bored for quite some time. When we go live, there's going to be PLENTY for people to do for a long time, and PLENTY of room for expansion. =D
Hmm. One thought: is it still going to be skytreasure? will it be the same... map style, or just a generated map?
Frankly I have no real opinions either way, although I did like the extra challenge that the open void presented, although it's given me a phobia of gravel and sand that's minecraft-wide.
KJ, it's a total new generated map. This is one of the reasons it's taking us a while to get it up and rolling. We need to get some things into place before we turn people loose on it. We're getting city boundaries laid out, personal claim borders set up, testing plugins and that sort of stuff. We're getting very close to opening up, hence the influx of updates.
We're sorry we've been sort of hush hush about it all but to be perfectly honest we've simply just been trying to hash out exactly what we were going to do.
To give everyone a bit of background, the decision to retire to old style map did not come easily. A lot of people put a lot of time and effort into that world. However having a world that was as limited as that one was created a whole box full of issues that we felt were getting too difficult to deal with efficiently and at the end of the day we also felt is wasn't very fair to the members.
By hanging on to the old style map, the membership was missing out on a lot of the new content that Minecraft has released without us hacking it in. We have tried very hard to keep things as legit as possible but this just wasn't possible given the limitations of the old map.
With a new generated map it contains all new content that's been added and will be much easier to update in the future.
We really think everyone will be pleased with the new world. It'll be pretty bare when we first get you in there, having only the basics laid down. (That's where you guys come in) But this is going to put everyone into a position to play Minecraft in a way that it's more meant to be played, but in much the same environment everyone has come to love about Sky Treasure.
More to come soon. Maybe I can sweet talk An0 into letting me smuggle a couple screenshots out.
As An0 reminds us all the time, and as we would like to pass on to you this clan is everyone's clan. Its members make it the clan that it is.
One of our reasoning's behind the non-regulation (On top of what Erick said) is the fact that one of the things that we heard people were not so fond of about the old map was how everything was a bit too controlled. While that worked for some, it didn't work for others.
So our new structure is basically going to offer as much of the best of all worlds as we can.
Control and Regulation - Within city limits and personal claims people will still have rules, regulations and staff protection to fall under. We are still working out details of how the economy is going to work. Most likely some sort of physical item instead of virtual currency.
Freedom - By leaving the confines of the city (Or cities once we begin expanding) and/or personal claims, you'll basically be playing a survival single player game, with the added bonuses of having multiple people to play with. This of course comes with some trade offs, in you won't have the protection of those regulations and rules that you do within the city/personal claims.
In keeping with the theme of that openness, we decided (for now) that the nether, since it's pretty much hell anyway, should be left open and unregulated. However as Erick stated, if enough people can offer up valid arguments as to why we should regulate it, we're completely willing to re-evaluate that and other decisions.
That being said, and again as Erick mentioned above, since we've released more details on the map in progress if anyone has input they'd like to share we would love to hear it. We will take any and all advice and ideas under advisement. Our ultimate goal remains the same: To make this the best and funnest server around.
Our hope is that by having a more open and free world that we'll attract a larger player base which means more activity, more growth and less "down time" on the server. This means more fun more often. =D
Ok Gang, here's our latest update on the progress of the new server map.
First I'll address property as I'm sure you're all geeking to know how we're going to handle it. We have a 500X500 Block section for the Capital city that is sectioned off into (more or less) 25X25 block sections. These will be for, among other things, Government buildings, offices, shops, and other such uses. Beyond the city borders there will be 99X99 block Personal claims people can purchase. I know 99X99 sounds weird, but there's a reason for it. These person claims will be yours to own from bedrock to ceiling. Here's how claims will work: Claims bordering the city will be under a little bit of a guideline in regards to building since they're up against the city and aesthetics are important. Those claims further away from the city not so much. Each claim will be World Guard Region protected for you so that no one but you can build/break stuff on your claim. (We're looking into setting it up so each region owner can add/remove people to their own region in case you want to share a claim, hire someome to work for you, etc) Region flags can be purchased for your claim. Some of these flags can include: No hunger (While you're in your claim), Explosion Protection, God Mode (While you're in your claim), and other flags to be named later. Personal claims are yours to do with as you please. You may mine, build, etc. We will have a few rules that we ask be followed which will be outlined in more detail later but nothing anyone isn't used to already.
Something new to the server will be the areas outside the city and personal claims. The wilderness. The wilderness will be exactly that. Once in the wilderness you are on your own. You are allowed to dig, mine, build, explore, etc. However you will not be under ANY staff protection while in the wilderness. PVP will be enabled while in the wilderness. If you decide to build in the wilderness and your stuff is destroyed, stolen, broken or otherwise tampered with then it is your loss. The staff will not investigate ANY theft or griefing outside the city limits. If you want your stuff protected, purchase a personal claim. 99X99 is a very large area to own.
Multiple claims will be allowed, however there will be stipulations which will be outlined more later on.
The Nether. I know a lot of you have been waiting for news on how we'll handle the nether. Well, here it is. The nether will be un-regulated. You are free to build your own nether portal and explore the nether all you wish. However, the same rules apply to the nether as do the wilderness. Should you choose to build in the nether, the staff will not investigate it. You are subject to theft, vandalism, explosions, lava damage and PVP while in the nether. Journey and build at your own risk.
That's it for now. More updates to come. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask and I'll answer them as best as I can.
I'm missing my shop on Promenade. I had just finished it and was getting used to the shop commands.
And I had a job with Figment.
I'm sad now.
Trust me when I say I don't think you guys are going to be disappointed with what we have in store for you. I'm going to post some more updates here shortly. Stay Tuned!
Yea, I just went back and checked my download. It's 1.1. I downloaded from the most recent link he posted in the thread.
It works, I just had to travel for quite a while before I found a dungeon. I'd like to have a config file to play with.
I'll keep an eye on this thread and keep an eye out for an updated download link, unless of course someone has a 1.2 they've successfully downloaded they'd like to share.
Yea, there were a couple chords a tad out of tune. But hey, it's Minecraft.
Also, yes. There should be 2 "clicks" (Which are actually finger snaps) during those parts.
All in all not too shabby. I don't think the songs complete, but for the work you put in, not bad.
Ok, so I took a look at your vending machine. It looks and works ALMOST flawlessly. Only problem I ran into was it when it came down the chute, it fell through the piston that was supposed to bring it up to me.
Other than that, a VERY nice design.
Rated down his youtube video. Not that his vid does the thing justice. Looks like the kid blew snot on a webcam then pointed it at the screen. He needs to learn something about video rendering...
Potatoes, Potahtoes, He gets the point. I was sleepy when I typed it. Now go die in lava. I watched Star Wars in Theaters before you were an itch in your daddy's pants.
