I had this happen on a map for the first time yesterday. Is it coincidence that your fence is next to water as well? My fence was in a similar setup to yours, a row of blocks with water on one side.
I bought Bioshock on Release Day, and have loved it ever since.
I have to say that one of the things I was impressed with was the "blood" on the floor in Dr. Steinmans Operating room. (I assume that's what you were going for with the redstone dust)
Ok, a couple of tips:
Before uploading a map, go into the folder, and delete the spc.settings file. That's your Single Player Commands settings, and will mess up anyone who has SPC installed. I logged into the map and couldn't turn off flying. :smile.gif:
Snagged this idea from the other underwater survival map. :smile.gif:
Any good map needs a story.
You are a government Scientist. Your group has been experimenting with molecular displacement. In short: Teleportation.
It has come time for Human Trials and you have volunteered to go first.
You step into the chamber. Your colleagues begin throwing switches. You feel intense heat and pressure on your body. You begin to feel a static build up in the air.
Suddenly there's a bright flash of light and everything goes quiet. You're blinded for a moment. All you can hear is water. As your vision returns, you figure out that you're encased in glass. This is not unexpected, as when your test objects came back from...where ever they went, they were often encased in glass.
Through the foggy glass, you begin to see objects take shape. Is that...a tree? Underwater?
You suddenly realize you are not "home" anymore. This strange place has rules you are not accustomed to.
0Figment0's Underwater Survival!
The Rules:
Do not exit the sides of the water "world"
No Mods that will assist you in obtaining items: i.e. SPC, InvEdit, etc.
Play on Any difficulty, but Normal will be the most fun.
You may break, place or move any blocks you see fit.
You may use your glass enclosure in any way you see fit.
I have hidden nothing special in the world. It is completely seed generated using a random number. :smile.gif:
Achievements: (Optional Goals)
Locate grass (Not 100% sure this is doable, as I don't know if there's any around the world within the water. As I said, I didn't edit the map other than replace air with water, and add the glass cube)
Build a bunker.
Make a redstone "clock"
Build an Underground Tree Farm
Build a house
Build a house on the surface of the water "block" (The water does NOT extend to the ceiling... I think... If it does...well, this achievement will have to be skipped. Let me know, and I can fix it.)
Mine each of the following:
Coal, Iron, Redstone, Blue Lapis, Gold, Diamond
Build a Watch
Build a compass
Grow sugar cane
Grow Wheat (Again, this is dependent on finding Grass for seeds)
Find a dungeon
Build a Monster Trap around said dungeon
Build a portal to the Nether
Build a tunnel out of glass
Post screenshots of your progress and any other achievements you manage to do, as well as any weird discoveries you make. I've found when replacing one element with another, you can get some weird results. :smile.gif:
Update
I decided to get serious about mining so I spent an hour or so and found gold, diamond, obsedian and A dungeon. The funny part is that the dungeon was underwater so I stole the loot and walked away. That grass I saved is finally growing and I got my first spawn
Its a pig =D
so how is everyone else's survivals going?
I think I found that dungeon too. Was the spawned surrounded by gravel?
As for how to overcome the surface limit, do exactly what you did by replacing air with water. Then, go in and delete like the top 10 blocks or so of water. :smile.gif:
Ok, will post pics up tomorrow... If i know where those ss's go D:
I have a reed farm, wheat farm and finally my tree has grown! Grass will grow on a dirt patch that has sunlight. Sunlight goes through water so if you put a dirt block inside an air pocket it will eventually become grass. Also, I found diamond!
False. Grass will only grow when theres grass near a dirt block and the dirt block has light(may also need light on grass block
This is true. Hence why Otaku and I "bent" the rules a little going outside the water box to find grass. I built a tunnel from a grassy area back into the Water block... And now I'm just kind of waiting.... Grass is growing...just slowly.
Trees on the other hand WILL grow on dirt. (I thought they only grew on grass) And the will grow via torchlight.
@otaku
Since we've been kind of updating one another, thought I'd tell you about my latest excursion.
I was branch mining while waiting on the grass to make it down my tunnel...(It hasn't even REACHED the tunnel yet...)
Anyways, I hit a wall of Obsidian. There was only about 8 chunks, but I figured out what happened when I dug around it and found Lava. Long story short, I created/mined enough obsidian to make a portal!!
So I went into the Nether. I farmed a bunch of Netherrack. I put some on top of my surface beacon and lit it on fire. I spent over an hour down there farming up Glowstone dust! I brought back enough to make a full stack of blocks.
Here's the crappy part. When I ported back to the real world... It dropped me smack in the middle of no where inside the water block.... The portal is just kind of...floating there. So I made for the surface, ALMOST didn't make it. Thankfully I DID build my big pillar because that's the only way I was able to find home again. :sad.gif:
Anyways, the Glowstone is KICK ASS for working under water!!! So if you get a chance, find some obsidian. I used up my last diamond pickaxe on it... Grrr... but the rewards are worth it! SO much easier wandering around under water now.
:smile.gif:
How are you getting along?

Screenshots go in a screenshot folder in the .minecraft folder.
Here's a tip:
Hit F1 first before taking the shot. This turns off your HUD (Heads Up Display) so that your hotbar and stuff isn't visible. Makes for a nice clean shot. :smile.gif:
So I guess trees DONT need grass.....
I got my tunnel all the way back to my little hole.... (GOD that took forever) to find one of my trees grew!
BUt now that I have the tunnel built... I'm going to lay the dirt so grass can make it over anyway. Think I'll put up a door for a gate or something to keep animals form working their way into my home area.
Now that I have the tunnel, it at least opens up a lot of area for mining. :smile.gif: Might find me some more diamonds.
*update* I finished laying out the dirt in my tunnel... And now.. I....I just don't want to dig or swim anymore....
Anyway, I decided to FRAPs my tunnel.. hehe so here's the video.

There's a little story to it on the post that you could read. Might explain a thing or two. :smile.gif:
