Elemental Essences has been my first experience with modding Minecraft. I have big plans for the mod which will be outlined in a spoiler at the end of this post. The basic concept of this mod is to demonstrated the interconnectedness of everything, as well as the influence ones mind has on their perception of reality, and by extension, reality itself. This concept is popularized by many philosophies and religious beliefs, and I intend to incorporate them into the mod, and create a very interesting perspective on their prospects.
Currently the main feature that this mod provides is through crafting recipes. Similar to Magical Crops in that you can create Minecraft resources by crafting modded resources into vanilla ones, however in an effort to deviate slightly until I have to modding knowledge to deviate further, ores instead of crops are used. These ores, can, through a series of refinement processes, be converted into any Minecraft resource. This is a simple feature that was very easy to implement and provides a backbone for me to work on new features.
For full functionality and greater efficiency, NEI is necessary
Getting Started
Ores
In the world you will find 4 new ores added to the game:
Mundane Ore
Sodden Ore
Blazing Ore
Celestial Ore
Scrolls
When you find dungeons in the world, inside dungeon chests you may stumble upon an item called Thoth's Divine Wisdom. This item will be very useful for this mod, however it is only used to get one of 5 scrolls.
Thoth's Divine Wisdom
In order to get the first 4 Items or Legends, you simply need to right click the scroll. This will randomly return one of 4 legends, The legend of Geb, The legend of Mazu, The legend of Kali, or the legend of Izanagi.
These will be useful later on. The fifth scroll requires you to keep one Thoth's Divine Wisdom, and use the runes you craft with the other legends to create the legend of Annunaki. The runes used to craft this will be explained later.

Smelting
In order to refine these ores you first have to smelt them. This will give you their respective essences.

Essence Use
Essence has the primary use of being refined into runes which are used for most of the crafting in this mod, however it does have some uses outside of that.
One Essence of the Mundane in a crafting bench will yield 32 cobblestone.
One Essence of the Torrent in a crafting bench will yield 8 dirt.
One Essence of the Damned in a crafting bench will yield 16 netherrack.
One Essence of the Divine in a crafting bench will yield 8 sand
The essences can also be used to make 4 new decorative blocks, and 4 brick variations.
Mundane Stone and Sodden Stone
Blazing Stone and Celestial Stone.
The brick variants are crafted just like you would craft stone bricks.
To craft the next tier of Essence, or Runes, you will need 4 of the respective essence and the Legend of either Geb for earth, Mazu for water, Kali for fire, or Izanagi for air. This uses up the essence, however the legends do not get used up.
Crafting With Runes
NEI is a dependency for this mod, just because I haven't implemented the code that assigns a mob to a spawner, this code is in NEI and will allow the mod to function fully. Besides that, it will be extremely useful because at present the majority of this mod is crafting recipes. In order to craft Minecraft resources using Elemental Essences, you need a rune of a specific deity, and another item to transmute. NEI should provide ample information on how to craft these blocks and items.
Crops
Currently these crops only are used to create a food item, however they will have many more uses as the mod develops.
There are 4 crops: Bodhi Crop, Rose Crop, Lotus Crop, and Cherry Blossom Crop. Their seeds are crafted with a rune and a seed.
Bodhi Seed = Rune of Geb + Seed
Rose Seed = Rune of Kali + Seed
Lotus Seed = Rune of Mazu + Seed
Cherry Blossom Seed = Rune of Izanagi + Seed
Once Planted They will grow on grass and dirt, and only during the day. They can be bone-mealed and have 4 growth stages.
They drop Bodhi Twig, Lotus Flower, Rose, and Cherry Blossom
They Can be crafted together to create Psychedelic Soup, which is a very good food that also gives you regeneration 1 and Strength 1.
Creating a Wither Spawner in Survival!
I have implemented an expensive recipe to create a Staff of Anarchy, a staff that when right clicked, transforms into a wither spawner. The spawner will eventually be a custom spawner, that can be controlled with a redstone signal, and the nether stars that are produced will be useful in this mod, and will be used quite heavily. To craft the Staff of Anarchy you will have to craft a few other Items.
Recipe for Rune of Annunaki.Recipe for Eye of Odin, and finally a recipe for The Staff Of Anarchy.
As dragon eggs are a one time item I have created a recipe to duplicate the Dragon Egg. Make sure you don't use the last one though!
Along with the Wither Spawner, I have created blocks that are essentially wither-proof, however they can still be broken by a diamond pickaxe or higher.
This created a preservation stone. 4 of these in a brick pattern create a preservation brick, which has the same properties as the preservation stone, just a different texture.
These blocks can also be converted into Preserved Mundane Stone and bricks, Preserved Sodden Stone and bricks, Preserved Damned Stone and bricks, and Preserved Celestial Stone and bricks, which are essentially all preservation stones with different textures.

We have added many new features in the time since this post was created, and are close to a release of the first part of the mod. I will update the post by completely redoing it once that release is ready. This mod has evolved quite a lot in a short amount of time, and the direction of the mod is clear. these images represent the various upgrades throughout the mod. the first two stages occur in The Division of Elements stage of the mod, the second two stages occur in The Division of Morality stage of the mod, and the final stage occurs in The Reconnect stage of the mod.
Each circle represents a crafting space, so in the first stage you have one crafting space available to you, in the second stage you have 7 crafting spaces, in the third stage you have 13 crafting spaces, and in the fourth stage you have 19 crafting spaces. in the final stage you only have 13 crafting stages, marked by the outlined circles, as the primary purpose of this stage is for one ritual which requires only 13 crafting spaces. in order to use the crafting space you must create a pedestal and place it in the center of the circle, this pedestal is where you will place the item that is used for crafting. each ring of circles is a separate crafting area, however within rings the items are shapeless. This means that in the center you need to have a specific item that can only go in the center, but in the next ring the items can be in any order, but they have to be in that ring, meaning that you need to have certain items in the first ring, certain items in the next ring, and certain items in the next ring etc, but inside rings the order is not important.
A secondary mechanic of the system is the use of geometry to focus the energy of the craft.
the lines required will be present in the personal and final index along with the items required for crafting. these lines are placed using runes of a particular element on the ground similar to how redstone is placed. They will form geometric shapes such as:
This is used in most crafts. To craft in the first tier all you would do is place the item on the pedestal and right click 4 times in the circle with essence of either air, water, fire, or earth, to create a cube of that essence. right click and you will have your crafting result. This crafting mechanic is only present in the first stage, in all other stages you will have to place lines in many areas, not just right clicking in the center.
A tertiary mechanic of the craft is the use of liquid essence. This is similar to a mix of botania and thaumcraft crafting mechanics in that you must use this essence in crafting. In order to gain liquid essence you will need a minimum of 2 items, but more is recommended. The first item required is a calefactor. This is a block that can be interacted with and has an inventory that can be filled via hoppers, other mods blocks, and any elemental essence means of automation. The essence is placed in the calefactor with wood ash as the fuel, and it transforms the solid essences into liquid essence. This process uses a lot of essence and for most crafts the main cost will be the massive essence cost. The calefactor is a model, and on the side of it is a faucet of sorts. This faucet will drain the essence into the next block you need, a basin. This is similar to botania mana pool in that it will be able to store all of the essence of one type that you need. By end game there are 7 essences that you will be required to use and so it is recommended to build multiple calefactor and basin setups.
A quaternary mechanic of the craft is sacrificing mobs to initiate crafts. This is only present in some of the more advanced rituals, but all that needs to happen is for a player to kill a mob while it is inside the crafting circle, and if all of the required materials, essence, and lines are present, the craft will initiate.

I agree that the textures look very similar to thaumcraft and do not plan to keep them. They are placeholder textures until I can get a texturer to help me. I do plan to keep 128 by 128 textures as I intend to make the mod look realistic. And the elements are a concept so pervasive the thaumcraft does not own any intellectual property on it. Currently as this is the main feature of my mod I understand the concern however this feature is actually very insignificant if the planned features come to fruition. The elements were just a starting point to get the player into the mindset of inherit qualities that items share such as elemental affinities. I can later make the player discover greater similarities ultimately leading to the realization that everything is connected. This is the style of the mod. Interconnectedness

While I'm not gonna try it yet for various reasons, I really like how this mod looks (And I think it'll fit into a modpack that's still in planning stage fairly well...). I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this mod.

Expect an update adding a way to transmute items like saplings skulls dyes and food items into other similar items, new textures for some of the items tweaks and addition to world generation and the potential for beginnings of some armor today many of the creating recipes will change and be discarded when a custom crafting system is implemented. If anyone is interested in helping out with the mod either by coding or creating models/textures I would love some help Im starting work on structures but i need to figure out their purpose first lol. need to start adding more features rather than a bunch of things that just add to crafting recipes
This is just a personal suggestion as a mostly non Minecraft coder, if this IP isn't sacred to you, you should make it open source, not for anyone to change but to look at, and you never know maybe someone will find bugs or typos in you're code and help you. Also I would potentially be interested in working with you, I mainly code but I am not a terrible artist. If you want to see some of my work just look at my Github, sadly almost everything I do is for other people so it isn't great but it's at least something. My work on there is mostly Java but I can write a program in almost any big language.

Hey, you know, in my near-delirious state from being tired, I thought of a suggestion. Back in 1.5, there was a cool little mod called Runic Dust that sadly never got updated (Though I think I've seen a few attempts at updates recently, from people other than the original author), and while I don't expect you to directly copy it, I think something similar would fit really well into this mod, especially with the Essences you have. I wish I could think of more specific stuff but right now I can't.
This concept is a great one and honestly I independently came up with it myself. I would use sacred geometry instead of random markings. That would give me away to incorporate lore something very important to me. And I don't know if sacrificing animals would be important enough for all of them but maybe for some recipes and rituals
We have added 2 moders to our team, and we have one texturer. I will be removing those requests from the post. Coding is open still but only for extremely qualified individuals.
Status Update 2:
I appologize for the lack of updates to the mod this week. We are planning to add one big feature or big update per week. This way we can have meaningful changes for you guys to test and play through. By the end of this week we will have the first tier of armor and the world gen that comes with it. I have finished coding the armor already, and now am focusing on world gen lol. If you want to see my progress you can look at our github. Ill leave you with this question. How can I remedy this
Ok armor has been added and the method to get it has as well. This is only the first tier and more tiers will be added soon. Textures are all that is required to finish them and then we will push an update this weekend. Along with this are several fixes changes to code, an addition of a config file(finally) more texture changes, and the start of some added functionality to scrolls. I will update the original post to reflect changes and will also put a poll to see what people want to have added next. Some things may take longer than a week to finish and so we would have small additions added per week until we finish it like the crafting handler.
Updated the mod early. We will be changing textures of all added items, especially the armor textures as they aren't even mine. Will change in less than a day. Also will be adding full functionality to the sky forge, and potentially the scroll abilities mentioned previously. We are still in need of a coder and as our texturer is busy at the moment, texture and model help would also be appreciated. Feel free to post comments, suggestions, problems, etc.

The update looks great! But when wearing any of the Leggings, the model has no texture, and the Plant Seeds have no textures either. Nevertheless, this is probably because you are updating the textures and the armor has just been added. Great work!

Does Elemental Essences add in these random recipes?:
Four Iron Ingots = One Gold Ingot
Four Diamonds = One Emerald
Two Redstone = One Glowstone
Five Coal = One Nether Quartz
If so, please add in a config to remove them, because if you have Equivalent Exchange 3 installed it allows for really easy exploits.
Textures are the current limiting factor in our process. In the last hour we have added 4 tools and 1 weapon a growth medium and are in the process of adding 4 new plants that allow for growing elemental essences, which you will need a lot of. We can't update as frequently solely because of the lack of textures. If we can get textures for the armor and seeds and other items in time we will update.
If anyone would be able to help with textures in 128 by 128 resolution it would be most appreciated.
The recipes are added but are going to removed very soon. We are moving away from crating recipes to transmute items in the near future anyway and these recipes seem very unbalanced.

these images represent the various upgrades throughout the mod. the first two stages occur in The Division of Elements stage of the mod, the second two stages occur in The Division of Morality stage of the mod, and the final stage occurs in The Reconnect stage of the mod.
Each circle represents a crafting space, so in the first stage you have one crafting space available to you, in the second stage you have 7 crafting spaces, in the third stage you have 13 crafting spaces, and in the fourth stage you have 19 crafting spaces. in the final stage you only have 13 crafting stages, marked by the outlined circles, as the primary purpose of this stage is for one ritual which requires only 13 crafting spaces. in order to use the crafting space you must create a pedestal and place it in the center of the circle, this pedestal is where you will place the item that is used for crafting. each ring of circles is a separate crafting area, however within rings the items are shapeless. This means that in the center you need to have a specific item that can only go in the center, but in the next ring the items can be in any order, but they have to be in that ring, meaning that you need to have certain items in the first ring, certain items in the next ring, and certain items in the next ring etc, but inside rings the order is not important.
A secondary mechanic of the system is the use of geometry to focus the energy of the craft.
the lines required will be present in the personal and final index along with the items required for crafting. these lines are placed using runes of a particular element on the ground similar to how redstone is placed. They will form geometric shapes such as:
This is used in most crafts. To craft in the first tier all you would do is place the item on the pedestal and right click 4 times in the circle with essence of either air, water, fire, or earth, to create a cube of that essence. right click and you will have your crafting result. This crafting mechanic is only present in the first stage, in all other stages you will have to place lines in many areas, not just right clicking in the center.
A tertiary mechanic of the craft is the use of liquid essence. This is similar to a mix of botania and thaumcraft crafting mechanics in that you must use this essence in crafting. In order to gain liquid essence you will need a minimum of 2 items, but more is recommended. The first item required is a calefactor. This is a block that can be interacted with and has an inventory that can be filled via hoppers, other mods blocks, and any elemental essence means of automation. The essence is placed in the calefactor with wood ash as the fuel, and it transforms the solid essences into liquid essence. This process uses a lot of essence and for most crafts the main cost will be the massive essence cost. The calefactor is a model, and on the side of it is a faucet of sorts. This faucet will drain the essence into the next block you need, a basin. This is similar to botania mana pool in that it will be able to store all of the essence of one type that you need. By end game there are 7 essences that you will be required to use and so it is recommended to build multiple calefactor and basin setups.
A quaternary mechanic of the craft is sacrificing mobs to initiate crafts. This is only present in some of the more advanced rituals, but all that needs to happen is for a player to kill a mob while it is inside the crafting circle, and if all of the required materials, essence, and lines are present, the craft will initiate.

I agree that the textures look very similar to thaumcraft and do not plan to keep them. They are placeholder textures until I can get a texturer to help me. I do plan to keep 128 by 128 textures as I intend to make the mod look realistic. And the elements are a concept so pervasive the thaumcraft does not own any intellectual property on it. Currently as this is the main feature of my mod I understand the concern however this feature is actually very insignificant if the planned features come to fruition. The elements were just a starting point to get the player into the mindset of inherit qualities that items share such as elemental affinities. I can later make the player discover greater similarities ultimately leading to the realization that everything is connected. This is the style of the mod. Interconnectedness

While I'm not gonna try it yet for various reasons, I really like how this mod looks (And I think it'll fit into a modpack that's still in planning stage fairly well...). I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this mod.
Thank you all for the support I am honestly surprised :p. Expect an update adding a way to transmute items like saplings skulls dyes and food items into other similar items, new textures for some of the items tweaks and addition to world generation and the potential for beginnings of some armor today many of the creating recipes will change and be discarded when a custom crafting system is implemented. Hey, you know, in my near-delirious state from being tired, I thought of a suggestion. Back in 1.5, there was a cool little mod called Runic Dust that sadly never got updated (Though I think I've seen a few attempts at updates recently, from people other than the original author), and while I don't expect you to directly copy it, I think something similar would fit really well into this mod, especially with the Essences you have. I wish I could think of more specific stuff but right now I can't.
I would love to help man! I'm great with Java and I would love to help you code with this, and I may have someone who could be your texture-er, I just have to get a hold of him. But please PM me for when you get the chance. I would love to help!
This concept is a great one and honestly I independently came up with it myself. I would use sacred geometry instead of random markings. That would give me away to incorporate lore something very important to me. And I don't know if sacrificing animals would be important enough for all of them but maybe for some recipes and rituals

We have added 2 moders to our team, and we have one texturer. I will be removing those requests from the post. Coding is open still but only for extremely qualified individuals.
Status Update 2:
I appologize for the lack of updates to the mod this week. We are planning to add one big feature or big update per week. This way we can have meaningful changes for you guys to test and play through. By the end of this week we will have the first tier of armor and the world gen that comes with it. I have finished coding the armor already, and now am focusing on world gen lol. If you want to see my progress you can look at our github. Ill leave you with this question. How can I remedy this

Ok armor has been added and the method to get it has as well. This is only the first tier and more tiers will be added soon. Textures are all that is required to finish them and then we will push an update this weekend. Along with this are several fixes changes to code, an addition of a config file(finally) more texture changes, and the start of some added functionality to scrolls. I will update the original post to reflect changes and will also put a poll to see what people want to have added next. Some things may take longer than a week to finish and so we would have small additions added per week until we finish it like the crafting handler.

Updated the mod early. We will be changing textures of all added items, especially the armor textures as they aren't even mine. Will change in less than a day. Also will be adding full functionality to the sky forge, and potentially the scroll abilities mentioned previously. We are still in need of a coder and as our texturer is busy at the moment, texture and model help would also be appreciated. Feel free to post comments, suggestions, problems, etc.

Textures are the current limiting factor in our process. In the last hour we have added 4 tools and 1 weapon a growth medium and are in the process of adding 4 new plants that allow for growing elemental essences, which you will need a lot of. We can't update as frequently solely because of the lack of textures. If we can get textures for the armor and seeds and other items in time we will update.
If anyone would be able to help with textures in 128 by 128 resolution it would be most appreciated.
The recipes are added but are going to removed very soon. We are moving away from crating recipes to transmute items in the near future anyway and these recipes seem very unbalanced.
