So I'm thinking about embarking on something I never seen anyone else do. I wanna go through every released version of minecraft and abuse the broken mechanics from each in order to obtain blocks that are usually unobtainable. IE: Going back to the early release days when you could get spawners with silk touch, obtaining alpha slabs, and making stuff like bows with infinity and mending on them in 1.9. The big one to me though is obtaining bedrock. I've browsed old forums and supposedly there was a way to do it in the late alpha - early beta days. But I've only seen some old screenshots and not a lot of tangible information.
If anyone out there knows some odd version of minecraft that let's you obtain unbreakable blocks that'd be great. The intention is once I've moved versions I can't go back starting with infdev.
There may be better examples of misused broken mechanics, most of your examples sound like they are just things that have been changed so they are no longer possible.
Will you be keeping several versions of your world?
As I understand it several blocks have been actually removed from the game and not only can't be obtained but no longer exist at all?
6 sided pistons and the item forms of piston heads and fire come to mind.
In a old version endermen could hold bedrock so you can just kill it.
They wouldn't drop the block though since that wasn't added until release 1.9, while Endermen were only able to pick up any block in a prerelease for Beta 1.8:
Also, prior to 1.7 (e.g. 1.6.4) you can mine redstone lamps with Silk Touch and obtain a lit redstone lamp item (warning - early 1.7 snapshots/releases will crash and regenerate chunks containing these items, and the item would probably be deleted in newer versions, or cause similar issues (this might explain why some people have had chunks reset and other issues when upgrading worlds to e.g. 1.13, as newer versions have become increasingly sensitive to invalid blocks/items, even variants of valid ones; for example, 1.6.4 treats stone with any data value as a valid block/item but in 1.8 only data values 0-6 are valid).

Snapshots are also valid.

Just testing.

Otherwise, you can obtain bedrock as an item in a 1.9 snapshot (since at least 15w47c and before 16w02a, easier before 15w51b):

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
Thanks this was extremely helpful!
