I have found my nearest villages which are very far away I want to build some nether portal shortcuts but before I do it I would like some help.
Spawn Point = 20 (0) -148
My first home portal is built at.
18 62 -184
The villages are at.
-159 (0) -1868
-351 (0) 1139
Where should I build my nether portals to get there and back I am confused even with the calculators...
"EDIT"
I also have a plan that I think might be useful, Because my spawn is so close to 0 (y) 0 I was thinking an efficient way to travel and not get lost would be to build portals along the 0 at every 256, 512 or even closer at 128 blocks in the overworld.
It makes the math easier and I will be able to find all my portals easier too How do you build yours? Do you have set distances or some other reasons?
Here's a video I did a while back that explains how to link nether portals, some people have found it helpful. The tutorial is near the end of the video.

Grab x and z then divide by 8 !!!
How simple is that, I have read a ton of science behind it and it confused the hell out of me But after watching a couple of videos and watching it happen first hand, It's just so much simpler!
I haven't had a go yet but as soon as I get near the PC I will let you know how it goes
"EDIT"
I made a backup/copy of my world and loaded in creative to do some testing Easy as pie, Linking is not quite as confusing as I first thought! Thanks for the help.
My only other concerns are where to build portals. Should I try to keep some kind of symmetry or another reason.

I use them for fast travel to places I've already explored, so I put an overworld portal wherever it seems appropriate, and then connect it up with a nether-side portal in the proper location. I don't worry about symmetry or even spacing or anything like that. Just "wherever I need them."

I'd strongly recommend placing your first portal at a high Y elevation. In my experience this will give you the best initial portal spawn in the nether and keep you from spawning underneath the lava oceans(can just be a pain to get out from under).
It also makes it easier to build your nether railways(best way for fast travel through the nether) the higher you are. A lot of servers build their railways in the netherrack ceiling, or even on top of the bedrock.

This forum has made me decide that I now want kids, so that when they get old enough, I can forbid them from coming here. it's a terrible place.

I don't know, I built my first portal in the basement of a tower on a high hill and it spawned me in a little "pocket" inside the netherrack ceiling, directly over a lava lake. I had to drop a pillar of gavel and then dig my way down, got knocked off by ghasts a couple of times, losing all my stuff in lava (thankfully I was smart enough to no bring anything TOO important) before I could get down to the nether-proper and start exploring. Now I always try to make my first portal nearer to sea level, remember that the lava "sea-level" in the nether is like level 30 or something (32 maybe, exactly half of overworld sea level?) so if you make a portal near overworld sea level of y=64, you should still come out well above that.

I was going to start as low as possible but I always end up stuck in caves or small rooms with no exit! So I chose to put my first portal and following portals on the surface (Just above sea/water level just so I can build hubs along the route and explore easier In the nether it's not such a problem.
It's been great having them all 512 blocks apart too So much easier to do the adding up lol
Having them on the surface saves me trying to dig myself out too As much as I love mining I prefer to pop out the other end with sun light if possible

Village #1 build nether side portal at: -20, -233 (159/8= 19.875 and 1868/8 = 233.5)
Village #2 build nether side portal at: -44, 142

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

All you have to do is divide the co-ordinates in the Nether by 8, then build the portals there. Now you can make them anywhere.
Watch out for the crabocalypse. Some say the day will never come. But it will.
Feel free to drop by for a chat whenever.
If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.

You think magic isn't real? Consider this: for every person, there is a sentence -- a series of words -- which has the power to destroy them.

The BEST way to mine diamond, layer 12 and you.

I find this link very useful for nether portal calculations - http://www.mavenspun.com/games/minecraft/

Excellent, Thank you for that I've been using my phone to do the math but that website helps a ton with all the details on when, where and hows
