Hi,
I am trying to get 2 villager powered farms to work and are side by side. Attachment is what I have
Sadly the villagers are not planting crops, any suggestions as to why or how to get them to plant crops while the farms are in these positions?
the farms are far from my village center so that isnt the issue. the top farm is a potato farm and the bottom is carrot. there are hopper carts running under each.
Additional info: The Potato farm used to be a beetroot farm, and farmers in both farms only planted crops when I reduced the carrot farm (so they werent side by side). Mob griefing is true, new villager in potato farm (so no beetroot in their inventory), version 1.13.2
Villagers will only pick crops if their inventory isn't already full of edible food. In a carrot/potato farm, the crops they pick and plant are edible food, so they quickly get enough to no longer be "hungry" enough to want to pick crops and obtain more "food". However, the only ways they can get such food out of their inventory is to plant crops (but no empty cropland nearby, as all the unharvested crops are mature), throw food to other villagers (who are also farmers with full inventory, thus not hungry enough to share food with), or go into love mode and consume a bit of their food to power their breeding (but they're far from a village and thus can't breed).
You can fix this, and reduce possible lag while you're at it, by removing the "hopper minecarts on tracks under the farmland" collection system with a small structure containing a villager with empty inventory for the farmers to try to share food with. You could probably come up with a modified version of the structure at the center of each level of Unarybit's carrot/potato autofarm design (see link below) with a small roof over it to lower the light level of the center block down to 7 so the farmers keep coming back to the center to plant that lone unplanted block of farmland and, oh hey, notice the starving villager right next to him and try and fail to toss them some food. You could also dress up this little structure to look like a tool shed or windmill or something if you want to keep the farm out in the open for aesthetic reasons.

I managed to remove the hopper cart system and used an unplantable farmland with string ( did it before saw your response) it worked really well but now carrot farmers just stand there chucking food at each other
