Does anyone know if the drops change whether the mob spawns originally as a drowned or if it starts out as a zombie? I have a village nearby that attracts lots of zombies, so I was thinking of exploiting that somehow, but if I'm not going to get a trident out of it, I'd rather not.
I believe the drops are rotten flesh/gold ingots/natilus shells when the drowned has spawned naturally and they are the same if it’s a converted zombie. However converted zombies won’t spawn holding tridents.
Just figured out that when I'd turn 8 years old, the 23th of November 2011, my parents could have offered me Minecraft as a birthday gift. Sigh...
Fun but frustrating platformer. Saves me of boredom when I don't feel like playing Minecraft. Knowledge of 8-bit old-school videogames is optional tho'.
Per the wiki nautilus shells and fishing rods are only dropped (at some percentage chance) if they generated as natural equipment with the drowned (ie. they cannot come from converted zombies).
The same applies to tridents in java. [But not in legacy and bedrock editions where tridents have a small chance of occuring as a normal drop.]

WARNING: I have an extemely "grindy" playstyle; YMMV — if this doesn't seem fun to you, mine what you can from it & bin the rest.
