So, I've been playing Minecraft for a while now. And I was wondering what everyone does for a starter house. This would be for your very first night of survival. Personally, I prefer a small shack in a side of a mountain.
So, what do you think?
Some screenshots would be cool but just tell me what you do to survive your first night.
As i usually play modded minecraft I like to create big cave systems to house all my machines and storage. 9x9 is also an option, this applies for vanilla aswell.
I usually find a cave, dig a hole in a cliff or find a large oak tree and hollow out the inside. One of my newer starter houses aren't actually starter houses- they're simply the basic crafting table, furnaces, chests and a bed that I put down when I'm making my base.

Watch out for the crabocalypse. Some say the day will never come. But it will.
Feel free to drop by for a chat whenever.
If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
I'm not above diving into the side of a hill/mountain or into a handy cave, but that's gotten a bit stale lately. I've taken to fencepost cages now, which I've found out rather happily make for a really awesome wireframing system for laying out the structure of your base while you're either undecided on what to build with, unsure of the shape to use, or are lacking in the materials you want to build with (but are otherwise able to get relatively easily). Just gotta make sure player-sized mobs can't fall/climb onto the fencepost roof or they'll be able to fall through the gaps of any of the 2x2 rings.
Doors and trapdoors are great for similar quick-and-dirty structures when underwater; not only can you get in/out from anywhere and they displace water, you can see through them and they block line of sight (useful when near a water temple full of guardians).
well don't play actual vanilla minecraft often, but might soon with a command or something, but when I have played either modded mc or vanilla, I usually build a small - medium house(not sure if medium is correct but not that big, but not a shack either)
I usually burrow into the side of a hill near spawn. Occasionally if it's really flat by spawn and there is water close by I'll dig a hole down into the water 3 or 4 blocks away from the shore, then carve out a space down there off the side of the water flow.
I usually find a hillside, preferably not far from the spawn point, and expand inside. My priorities include creating a wall around a perimeter, and creating a path to the spawn point itself so I can never get lost.

Very interesting. Thank you sharing.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
I always liked the Fencing in a large area and then removing 2 layers of dirt down. Then making the fences spider proof.
