1.Cut down a tree for wood
2.Build a poorly made structure
3. Hide in a hole instead
4. Wait out the night
5. Die tragically by an unsuspected creeper attack
Strategy? Jesus, there's no need for strategy in minecraft. You can **** around all day and when night comes around just sprint around in circles and mobs won't be able to catch up to you. You can mine up 24 iron ores if you find a cave real quick and be in iron armor by the time the first night is done.

1) Grab some wood;
2) Visualize my house;
3) Waste time getting decent-looking building materials;
4) End up with a 2-block high perimeter;
5) Death by Skeleton; quit, wait 30 minutes, and repeat.
AAAAAAAARRRRGGGHHH I had this all written out and my browser crashed. Oh well, time to try again.
Day 1: Wood. After I hit down a few trees, I scout out a good location for my base. If if find a village, temple, or pyramid, I just make a couple doors, chests, and torches, otherwise I make a shack of sorts. If I can find some, I'll kill 3 sheep for a bed and sleep out the first night, otherwise I start mining some cobble.
Day 2, I usually spend expanding/improving my house, looting buildings, killing some cows, getting more wood and planting saplings if I haven't already, stuff like that.
My day 3 activities depend on my food supply; if low, I'll start a farm, otherwise I'll start mining in a staircase downwards. Either way, when I'm finished with one task, I'll start on the other. I'll try to get some iron armor if mining.
I'll keep focusing mostly on mining until I get 5 diamonds in which case I will make a diamond pick and enchanting table. I'll low-level enchant some armor and make a portal to the nether.
If there is a nether fortress nearby, I'll try and find some warts and get a blaze rod, then head back to base. If not, I'll postpone this step and find a fortress later.
From that point on, I have no specific strategy. Getting wolves, expanding my house, defending a village, exploring, raiding mineshafts, getting a fortune pick - it all depends on my world.
1. Slowly look around area when just spawned and find wood. If there's sheep, I always kill 3 of them for a bed.
2. Take wood and make crafting table, pick, and maybe an axe to help with woodcutting.
3. When I have enough wood for a house, I find a lake or river to build my house by. (I always build my house near water, don't know why...)
4. Build my house, and go to the area where I massacred the trees. If there's an apple or two, I'll take the and grab the saplings. Head back to house.
5. Plant saplings to make a wood farm, and find a cave to mine some stone and coal as the sun sets.
6. If I found coal, I make torches and light up my house. If no coal, make charcoal out of wood with my furnace, because by now I'll have the stone to make one.
7. If I don't have a bed, I wait the night away and will the creepers outside to stay away. If I have a bed, I set it down and dream about diamonds and such.
First Day? No Problem.

"So y'all gotta hide yo wood, hide yo stone, and hide yo dirt too, cause them creepers blowing up everything out here."

I'm stalking you around the forum... ITS TRUE...
Minecraft is TOO EASY!
Monsters are either too slow or can't predict movement worth .
I mean, how hard is it for you to estimate player position after distance/speed is applied.
in minecraft was meant to be difficult.
But too many kids play it for any real challenge to be added :|
Surviving? Step 1: dig 3 deep hole. Step 2: jump in, place dirt on top. Step 3: WIN!

Over 90 % of the human population is stupid (in my honest opinion). Don't expect too much from them when you post something that actually involves thought.
1. Get 4 wood
2. Make bench/wood pick
3. mine 3 stone
4. ditch wood pick and use stone pick
5. gather 6 stone, and make sword+axe+shovel
6. collect coal if it's nearby.
7. collect workbench and begin exploring with my full stone arsenal.
I don't know why anyone makes wood tools -___- (except for a pick to collect 3 stone)

~~~~~~~
1. Punch tree
2. Make wooden pickaxe
3. Find cave within 30 blocks of spawn point
4. Mine stone, make a stone pickaxe
5. Get more stone, make a full set of stone tools
6. Explore cave
7. Get a stack of iron and coal
8. Make iron armor and full set of iron tools
9. Collect wood and resources throughout the night (The mobs are a joke, you're pretty much invincible with iron armor)
Day 2
~~~~~
1. Build a house
2. Find another cave
3. Find diamonds, gold, redstone, and lapis in the cave
4. Make diamond pickaxe
5. Mine obsidian
6. Make nether portal/enchantment table
7. Travel to the nether, get blaze rods, brew potions, build a castle, blah blah blah.
First a like to explore my surroundings and look for what spot might make a nice building spot for a dirt hovel
Usually I decide on a spot right when the sun is pretty low in the sky.
Now it's time to start punching trees.
I need to make a chest to store all my miscellanious crap like seeds and dirt in.
Now it's time to face my fate and get shot to death by skeletons.
After that I usuallly die about three more times as I try to find a nice hidy hole to wait out the night and retrieve my miscellanious crap.
Next I start making tools. Fist ---> Wooden Ax ----> Wooden Shovel + Wooden Pick ----> Stone everything
Someway of gathering food.
Then I go underground. I tunnle straight down with nothing but a stone pickax until I get to a suitable layer.
Once that happens I go and start mining for iron and diamonds.
Once I have the diamond goods it's time to start wandering with a pair of shears looking for sheep.
After I've made a bed I start wandering arond Kurtjmac style. Hoping I'll find a good spot to build a home and raise a family of one.
for me it goes something like:
Collect Wood
Collect Dirt
Kill a cow/chicken/pig for meat
Start crafting wood stuff for house
Make sure im safe in my house by nightfall
Build a terrible house.
Wait out the night.
Start mining.
Get more materials.
Light up house.
Make house better.
Get diamond.
Survive with style.
