Lookin to get some ideas on what to do with my project I'm currently working on. It's a 50x50x14 castle.
For the front i was thinking of doing 2 pixel-art flags on each side of the door kinda on the higher area to give it more style as you're entering.
What do you think?
Where you see cobblestone not placed above the door was an idea i had of putting a pixel-arted flag up there to give it more of a castle feeling.
What do you think?
Now I'm not quiet sure if i wanna build a roof or not as i am basically making this more of a mansion then a castle although it will still have the castle looks when it done.
Do you think i should add a roof?
All suggestions on what to do would be very helpful xD
You should add a roof. And then add a wall around it.
Yea i know And i was thinking of adding roof but didn't really know if it would look less castle look. Is there any certain roof designs that would look good or just a simple flat roof?
It is... a little too small to be a castle, isn't it? Or is this just the main building, and you are going to build a big wall surrounding it? If that is the case, then I won't say anything else. But if those walls are the outside walls... well, my main house is about the same size, and I would never call it "a castle" I don't want to sound rude or anything, just... a small critizism, I guess.
Anyway, you know what improves a lot the looks of any wall? Using Iron bars (or fences, if you preffer) in the gate, as if they were the "door" And bonus points if you use pistons to open and close the door. I did that in my ostrich farm (from Mo' Creatures, of course) and I loved the end result! Well 1 yea it is small because i mainly wanted it to have a castle look but to be more of a mansion then a castle. And a wall around the outside maybe me an idea i might consider doing once im done building rooms.
You need a inner building, with separate walls (as Villanelo said) and a tower in the middle. This prevents the box like look. Other stuff depends if you want it realistic, or if you want it to serve a purpose in your minecraft world. A realistic one would have a armory, barracks, kitchen, and so on, while a useful one would have things like farms, cobble generators, TNT cannons, and so on.
Looks pretty good. Personally I would have used stone bricks instead of cobble.
Maybe use some stairs to make an overhang along the top of the walls? How many blocks thick is are the walls? I think they look too thin for the hight. If you made the walls thicker you could hollow out the insides and be able to go inside the walls.

Stonebrick would of taken to long for me to smelt and everything as i am in survival. and the walls are 2 thick 14 high 50x50 long/wide
You know what would look good? Put some stone brick accents around the castle. Like the base of the wall being stone brick instead of all cobble. I had to do that with a wall I made to keep mobs out, creepers kept blowing up the cobble so i put stone bricks for the framework and cobble to fill it all in. Looked nice.
Mix it up with the stone/stonebrick/cobble. All cobble looks too.... cobbly hahah

Takes to much time doing builds that require alot of stone without having help. I'm doing this in a smp server so i don't want it to be to fancy incase a griefer decides to stroll by. which is why i didn't bother doing to much of a detailed creation. Although i can do better then this one.

I may do that eventually. What about the roof? I was thinking of doing a pyramid roof type as i don't really want it to be open. I'm building this to live in it so an open roof wouldn't really look to well with open roof rooms. Should i do a flat roof or what do you suggest.
I may just do it in my own way even if it turns out to not be a castle look. Atleast it will still be a nice Crib per-say.
Hm, make sure it's not a plain box. Make the walls look ruined slightly, add parapets, trechbuckets (spelling is bad), murder holes, and make the gate look more realistic. Add a moat or pit. If it's a castle, it should have large walls, and a keep on the inside. Add a stable, barracks, bakery, etc. Don't give up.
A pryamid roof is cool, I've built one before and it looks really cool from inside. I left 1 block at the top open for light to come in. Acutally I have a screenshot on here that might give you an idea of how it'd look ontop of a castle. From the inside anyways.
Yea im gonna do a tour of my 'Crib' When I'm finished. Don't really wanna call it a castle sense it's not really designed as dynamic as one would say it is. But I am gonna be adding a Pyramid roof with a greenhouse inside mycrib. I'll be having a lower and possibly a upper floor. but for now stay tuned and i will soon have more pictures!
Also, some farms would be really nice. Bonus points if you can get a functioning mob farm.
Mob systems is what I'm good at. I will probably have one in the future but for now i wanna focus on finishing up what i started. I may eventually add a in my own creation a china wall around my castle with barracks ect inside those walls with the castle dead center of the wall.
I would go up on the four corners and add a few blocks higher then add stair roofs that look a little like circles with a much taller and wider tower in the middle of the castle. it would take a lloooooootttt of cobble but it would look cool.
I'm building a similiar style in my singe player world, however it will be more of just a fortified wall with a house inside.
For the walls, using a stonebrick/cobblestone pattern looks rather good, with stone slabs placed above the cobblestone and the stonebrick being one higher. It adds a nice style as opposed to a big wall of cobblestone.
Anyhow, the build seems to be coming along nicely for you! Good luck on it!
P.S. - The picture is not from my survival world, it is a picture from a flatland Creative world.

Yeah I figured that is why it was cobble. Takes forever to get enough stone. even with 6+ furces running on lava.
Maybe add a gatehouse?
