So, I've been playing Minecraft for years now. I've had countless survival worlds, and most Minecraft players can attest to how fun it is to start over from nothing. I've always made a brand new world when I've started over (as I'm guessing most people do), but recently I was thinking of just moving to a different spot on the same world instead of starting a new one.
You would have the same experience of starting over if you wanted, and you can even give yourself varying degrees of help (bringing seeds or stone tools). You would also have the added benefit of being able to pool your resources when you're working on a large project, if you so desired.
Honestly, I think next time I start a new game, I'm just gonna pick a direction and start walking until I'm far away enough to be in the "wilderness". But what do you guys think?
Exactly! When you have one world that has all the builds, it seems awesome. It feels great to look over the walls of your castle to see your other creations in the distance. That's another reason that I am thinking of just moving.
I have this too, but I play Console so my worlds are somewhat limited.
Honestly when I find that one mature player I can do a survival world with I'll start over, but I'm very OCD. Quid pro quo, I'm currently working on a massive storage center dug into a hill that is 60 x 300.
Does not help that the walls are 9 high and -Log- -Wood- -Wood- -Log.- With chisled stone roof, and cobble floor it looks amazing with my texture pack but it will take foreveeeeeeeer.
It's the wiki's guide on colonizing a new area. More for resource acquisition but it's quite fun to do anyway. I've done this in a few worlds. I've also done this in TerraFirmaCraft quite a bit. (Oy, that brings up painful memories x_x)
It's 60 million from one world border to the opposite world border...-30 million to -1 on both the x and z axes, then you have the origin at (0,0), and finally +1 to +30 million.
I've moved four times in my current world, and I'm roughly X=12000, Z=9000 blocks away from spawn now. Its been good to have amassed resources at each base, then move to a new area ready to build with stuff to hand. I've moved mainly to set up new bases in particular biomes (Mesa and Ice Spikes being examples), and I used a 3rd party utility called AMIDST to locate these biomes, then extended my nether minecart rail system to make an approx. link before fine tuning the portal positions. In fact there is no overworld link between some of my areas, they are only all connected by the nether.
One thing I have tried to do is at each base only explore in one or two directions at the start, the idea being if a new update adds stuff like ores, I can update then explore the other directions in the hope of getting the new stuff nearby. Just a quirk I've adopted.
I think its best to go off into the wilderness, but make sure to bring food if you don't want to bring all your other stuff, so bring a pick, a weapon, and food. I would not recommend taking all your stuff with you.

Personally I would just stick to moving in the current world, after all what's the point of all that excess space if you don't plan to use it
I stick to the same world, as it's like finding a bonus chest full of enchanted dia armor and tools
The fire will always burn... Literally.

Given the massive size of the world, seems silly to create a whole new world just to start fresh. I just tp somewhere thousands of blocks away.
