Yeah... I vote for larger but less frequent updates. I like new features... ok, no,I crave them as an addict craves his next hit, but it really sucks trying to keep up to date with updates, server mods, and such.
Maybe I'm just being whiny :smile.gif: Keep put the good work notch.
Ermm, we DO have larger, less frequent updates now. About one a month. You want even rarer, larger updates? O.o I agree that this is better than one tiny, untested update a week (the in(f)dev days), but I wouldn't like eve rarer, bigger ones.
Hmmmm Maybe my brain in alpha mode.
I wouldn't mind major quarterly updates. Maybe when updates aren't required to actually modify core components of the game just to function it wouldn't be a problem.
I know that I would certainly enjoy having more new crafting recipes in each update, even if that means the updates would take longer. Remember how many new crafting recipes were in the Beta 1.3 update? If not, then go check Notch's blog. You back yet? Ok, so if we count each of the new half-blocks separately, there were a total of 5 new items/crafting recipes, 3 of which were only cosmetic changes from previous items! When I hear that there's been an update, my first questions are "What new items are there, how can I use them, and would I be able to lessen my massive amount of stockpiled resources with them?" I wish we could get updates with 10 or even 15 new crafting recipes that wouldn't need disclaimers about whether or not certain recipes are counted separately!
On the other hand, this is technically an open beta. We are supposed to be finding bugs and problems with all the things introduced in each update, which can then be dealt with before the next update. If more things get introduced in each update, then the number of conflicts and bugs in each update will increase, the difficulty in isolating and solving them will increase WHILE the accuracy of the fixes decreases, and the amount of work that Mojang needs to do will skyrocket while they deal with all the players whining at them to fix the game. So even as I wish that updates were larger, I still understand and agree with the reasoning behind the current update size and frequency.
Mature, reasoned, and balanced opinionation FTW! (Is opinionation a word?)
