I don't know what's happening. I can't join any servers without getting disconnected with socket write errors or something. I'm running minecraft unmodded. Even with mods it does this.
I doubt it's my computer that is at problems here. I bought this Alienware M14x R2 a week ago and the specs are:
2.3GHz intel i7 quad core processor
8GB ram
NVidia GeForce GT 650M 2GB vram
Intel Centrino wireless N-2230
I've also had the exact same problem on my desktop that has a much older setup:
2.0GHz intel Pentium D dual core
2GB ram + 8GB pagefile
NVidia GeForce GT 8600 1GB vram
DLink USB wireless stick
As you can see, both of my computers are connected wirelessly to the internet. Unfortunatly I have no direct access to the router, so I cannot plug my computers to the router directly because of how things are setup. But I can access it through the 192.168.0.1 ip if anything. When I was able to connect directly to a router, either back home at my parent's house or in college, I didn't get these connection errors.
So here are the symptoms:
I start up minecraft and try to connect to a server, minecraft will freeze for about 30 seconds before showing the "Logging in" screen.
After that the world starts loading up, all chunks gets loaded and I can see people talking for a while.
After about another minute of joining the server, I get disconnected with this screen:
Sometimes the error varies, like: Internal exception: java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: socket write error
I've tried to join other servers because of this, just to test. And they all give me the same kind of problems.
I've even tried hosting a server on my laptop so I could play with other people but then, they get the same problems I've been getting. So clearly the fault is not anyone's but mine or my router.
I've tried googling around for this kind of problem but to no avail, either the fix was for another kind of problem or no help was provided.
I've also ran minecraft with Magic Launcher to get a log of when I get disconected, it gave me this:

java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: recv failed

Hopefully someone can help me, or at least tell me to simply quit minecraft and throw my little investment in it away.
If theres any other information I could provide, please just ask. I'd really love to play minecraft again, but this has been going on over a month.
Thanks in advance for any help, hopefully this thread won't die before it's solved like many I've seen.
Should I delete this post? Seems its just being burried. Perhaps I didn't post in the right section? I'd really love some help, even if its just to tell me that nothing can be done about this... please, I've been dealing with this for months and it's irritating ):
I just tried that myself. Uninstalled Java, restarted, installed java, restarted. And to no luck ): I have Java 64-bit and minecraft does run and start, so it recognizes my java. My friend also suggested to bring my router's channel into unused channels so there wouldn't be any interference with other networks. Doing so didn't help improve anything other than maybe making my internet more stable. Hopefully anyone has a clue as to what might be wrong...
ok let's look at the easy to find prob did you portforward your router? if you din't you can A play minecraft on the same computer as the sever and use local host B if you want friends to join your sever go to this place for help on port forwarding you want to open the port 25565. if it still does not work make sure to log onto your computer with the sever on it and go to ipchicken.com and use that IP or use the ip from ipchicken.com to portforward.
I wish it were that easy to fix the problem. I know how to port forward with my router and I have done so when I hosted the server. People could join, talk for a minute and would get that error. Plus I don't mind that I cannot host a server or not, but I really would wish I could join servers without having that problem xD thanks for trying though, appreciated!
Yeah this is a java error that's been conflicting with my server and it's users. It affects everyone differently and I just updated my server from 1.3.2 to 1.4.2 bukkit and it just increased the severity.
From older post I picked up a few solutions that could be the cause but none of them worked.
But if you are the server owner I'd try a few of these. The first one that I thought worked would be just deleting everyone positions in the world in each world folder. This suppose to delete any items that maybe giving errors or don't exsist idk. I've done this with my server but didn't fix it.
The only real solution I have is that it's an authentication error going between your computer and minecraft servers as the day the server went down for a few hours was the same day my server started experiencing these issues. But I don't know. I'm hoping someone on the staff could help out as I'm now getting these errors more frequently.
well it seems so far that there's no concern about this error, since it seems to be internet side problem. Also I'm not getting this error only because I want to host a server, I just want to join other peoples server, any server. I can't join any at all ): I just feel like quitting minecraft completely and let my 30$ cad go to waste while mojang laugh at my lost lol
I think its the memory when i press F3 and see the memory used it is REally low my fraps is 100-200%.I have issues in my internet to i live in a far place my internet alwaays stop and freezes .btw thats my problem to im thinking of stop playing M.C. and it happens on servers XD
I was just wondering, all of you who are having the same problem. Not sure where all of you are from, but are you by any chance using Rogers as your internet provider?
Reason I ask is because thats what my friend is using right now. She recently switched providers when she moved and it is only now that the problem has started. So the computer never changed. Only the internet. (And before someone says it, the router is not the problem since we tried to conect without router conected)
Yes, Rogers is in fact my internet provider, which I must add that they are horrible. I have no choice though because it comes with my rent where I live, and I do not have the money to pay for my own internet
I too have this problem. For me, it occurs when I play on FTB Ultimate Pack.
I have restarted my computer.
I have reinstalled java.
I have reinstalled FTB and Minecraft.
I don't know what to do. I've tried and I've tried to fix it. I really need to fix this problem soon.
I had the same problem on my alienware m14x r2. I had k9, (and other problems) so I just completely wiped my laptop and then tried it and it worked! I know you probably don't want to completely wipe your computer, so here are some things I would suggest: 1. uninstall k9 2. uninstall and reinstall java AFTER uninstalling k9 3. share results
Yes. I have K9, which has always has been more pain then help, but the other users of this computer want to keep it on.
Is K9 the problem? I've had problems with other games being blocked by K9 before.

This is now occurring on vanilla too.
