This is NOT how to host a server with GoDaddy (to my knowledge, this is impossible), this is how to use your domain to forward to your home server.
First off you must have your home network set up to forward correctly to the computer hosting your server. There are plenty of other tutorials on how to do this.
Second, this only works if you have an "always on" connection as your IP address will reset every time you reconnect unless you lease a static IP address.
Third, this is only going to work if you have leased a domain name through GoDaddy (or you can figure out the commands for a similar domain host).
Step 1: Determine your ISP assigned IP address (for me I do this by logging into my router admin page and viewing the router status).
Step 2: Log into your GoDaddy account.
Step 3: Launch the DNS Manager (or whatever they're calling it today).
Step 4: Edit the zone for your chosen domain name.
Step 5: Add a new "A record".
Step 6: Change the host to 'minecraft' or whatever you want the subdomain to be. NOT minecraft.yourdomain.com, just minecraft.
Step 7: Change 'points to' to your IP address from step 1.
Step 8: Change TTL (time to live) to 1/2 hour (optional, but supposedly speeds things up).
Step 9: Click OK.
Step 10: Click Save.
Step 11: Twiddle your thumbs for a while (about a half hour).
Step 12: Try logging in with minecraft.yourdomain.com.
If your IP address gets changed you will have to update this with roughly the same process. You click the pencil by the record you created and change the Points To to your new IP address. Remember to click save!

I have a quick question. Im not really a noob to this, but I feel like one today! I was so frustrated last night after not successfully getting this setup properly.
my @ should be to my webserver
and my
minecraft should be to the IP of the minecraft server?
Correct?
Soo, how does it know that i want it to connect on port 25565?
I would like to add that you should delete anything else in the A Record too (just in the same section as you will put your IP, not anywhere else), unless you want your domain to alternate between parked and working (like mine did).
Maybe that's a given for some, but it wasn't for me so I assume it's not a given for everyone (unless I'm a complete idiot, which I won't discount).
Totally new at this also... godaddy says i cant access the DNS manager because the nameservers do not belong to this registrar? They are enjins atm so i can use my web address there >.>

You need to add the Enjin nameservers (if they even give you them) to your domain on GoDaddy. You'd be better off having Enjin transfer your domain to GoDaddy (if they'll let you do that) though.
I'm using the name servers on go daddy which doesnt allow me access to the DNS manager >.> Rizinia.net is a enjin website but now i cant make a domain/ip thing for my server
Edit: i guess its allowing me to access the DNS manager now after getting back on... will see how it goes
You can't use the same domain for your server as for your enjin site unless they're hosting from the same machine. I spent countless hours just to figure that out today haha hope this helps!
Godaddy only allows for you to use dedicated ip addresses meaning 25565, so if you have a server ip with a port other than 25565, then it will not work.

1. You're completely wrong. GoDaddy doesn't handle the ports. it only handles the actual numeric address (128.0.1 for example, but not 128.0.1:25582). So, you can have a domain point to an address, but if you have a port that is not the same as the default used by the application (e.g. 25565 for Minecraft, 80 for a webserver) then you'll have to include the port. The port is ALWAYS handled by the application (in the case of an A record, but this changes if you are using an SRV record), NOT the DNS provider.

I know this post is old, but since someone else just bumped it I'll mention that rather than using an A record with your IP address (which is most likely DHCP and can change) install a dynamic DNS service from someone like no-ip.com. You'll end up with like whatever.no-ip.com as your DNS name, and that DNS name will always be pointing to your IP, even if it changes (that's the whole point). Then for your own domain create a CNAME record that points to the no-ip domain. I.E. minecraft.yourdomain.com -> whatever.no-ip.com.
Hello. I am having troubles getting this to work. I have followed all of the steps indicated in the first post and read all of the replies but I still cannot connect using my domain. Can someone tell me what I've done wrong please?
When I click on manage DNS, The first section is Records.
I set up a record that says type is A, name is minecraft, value is my IP address, and TTL is 1/2 hour.
There are 8 other records that were there before I set up this one.
The second section is for Nameservers and that is set for default, I did not touch that since this forum didn't say to.
The next section says Advanced Features and has 2 buttons. Manage Templates and Host Names. Both of which I left alone.
The last section says Forwarding and has 2 sections
Domain not set up
Subdomain not set up.
That is everything that is on my Manage DNS page.
Edit: I waited about 3 hours before I tried connecting after I set up the record.
Hello, I've followed your instructions, but I get the message in the DNS Zone with "The zone file is unavailable because the domain's set nameservers do not belong to this registrar." What does this mean?

Yep, or at least where you need to enter your IP or your server's.

Yeah, when you're adding the DNS, just make it mc instead of minecraft.

Did you register this domain with GoDaddy or did you transfer it?
