I've been trying to set up a modded server to play with a couple buddies and I can't get port forwarding to work.
Spent at least 14hrs total trying to set it up but can't get the port to open, I have been checking using a port checker.
The good news is; after setting up the forge server with the modpack I've created, it does in-fact let me connect to it via localhost or my IPv4:25565.
The server even runs well and it was very encouraging.
The one snag is no matter what I do the port wouldn't ever open for others to join.
I've set the server MAC address and the IP to Minecraft's 25565 port, along with attempting to manually assign the IP for the server to get around the DHCP but it's just not working.
I've turned off any antivirus, made sure the port goes through my firewall on both ways just in case, as well as assigned my server PCs internet IPv4 and such using windows settings, even lowered my DHCP end pool address from 253 to 240; to make sure the server is not in that point.
Even with the port being 253 which is outside the 2-240 DHCP pool it still is not open.
I attached pictures of the port forwarding menu within my Asus router & the manual static IP network settings I entered into the machine hosting the Minecraft server. As far as I can tell from the like 20 cross-referenced tutorials these settings are right.
For the static IP settings, I have also tried running it with the DNS server being 1.1.1.1 (cloudflares servers) & 8.8.8.8 (googles servers) but that resulted in no internet being received when swapped to manual.
Neither google or cloudflare worked so I defaulted to what I was told would work, the gateway IP.
This made it so that the machine was outside of DHCP pool & connected to the internet all good signs, but sadly the port checker I used still said the port is closed, even on a Static IP.
I am waiting on a response from my ISP to see if they are blocking it with CGNAT or issues with static IPs on their end but this is just killing me.
I really don't want to pay 80$US to run a server with some mods, because I've done so before and its not fun after the 6th month.
If anything you just read seems like a flagrant mistake or you spot something in the pictures that isn't setup right please tell me so as I am at my wits end.
Also anyone that has any advice from being in this hellscape of port-forwarding setup themselves; it would be very appreciated.
