Currently trying to get a Vanilla server up and running to play with some friends. Running into an issue where if I leave off my port number, then the connection times out, but adding the port number leads to an Unknown Host error. All members are getting these errors under both circumstances. I've tried to reset the DNS on my Server PC to no avail. What is my next step here?
So it's still not working, but I'm getting a different error. Depending on which ip I try to connect through, I get either a Connection Timed Out (using Public IP) or Authentication Servers are Down error (Using the server computer's local IP). Ideally I'd like to use the public IP so I can have friends connect.
Hey there all!

Check for some guides:
https://www.hostinger.com/tutorials/how-to-port-forward-a-minecraft-server
If it is still not working, check for tools like Hamachi, to create a separate Network - in this case you do not need to port forward
So it's still not working, but I'm getting a different error. Depending on which ip I try to connect through, I get either a Connection Timed Out (using Public IP) or Authentication Servers are Down error (Using the server computer's local IP). If you haven't setup an exception, Windows Firewall is most definitely be stopping any connection.
Give this guide a try.
Once you've done that, you can check the server accessibility by going to a port checking website.
I recommend portchecker.co.
The server needs to be running for the site to work.
If the site says the port is closed, then you haven't setup your port forwarding correctly on your router.
