The server is online and i am trying to join on the same machine as well as my laptop. When I try to join on the same machine using direct connect and "localhost" everything is fine and dandy but when I try to join on my laptop and it is on the same network, using the internal IPv4 address it just says "Internal Exception: java.netSocketException: Connection reset" and when they are on different networks and i use the external IPv4 address to join it times out. How could I fix this? Just ask if more info is needeed.
Ok, will try, I just put in my internal IPv4 address and forwarded to 25565 and used the UDP protocol for one rule and then I did it again and the only thing I changed was the protocol as there was no option for both.

For external connections, did you portforward properly? Temporarily completely disable your firewall and try again.

Make sure the internal IP is static and use canyouseeme.org to test your portforwarding.
