I recently started up a server for me and 7 friends. However, when more than 2 people join at once the connection becomes so unbearable and no one can play properly. Task manager says it is using 2Mbps at the most which i thought should still be more than enough to connect 3 players
I host the Minecraft server on my computer allocating 3GB of RAM and i have a 25Mbps connection according to fast.com. I am fairly certain this should be enough to play with at least 3 people but yet everyone times out or lags immensely. I do use a free dynamic dns (my.noip.com)
It might be server performance issues not your connection. Try reducing the view-distance to 4 as a test (in server.properties) and see if that makes things better.
