i have sucessfully created a minecraft server and connected on the local host, easy right? so then i try to have my friend connect, and IT WORKS! he was playing, he walked up to a tree and started to cut it down! everything was fine for about 45 seconds before he timed out from the server. i checked the log, and it said he connected once, disconnected once, and hasnt been able to connect since. not even a message on the server cmd line like the first time. he tried exactly 37 times to reconnect (i suggested he stop after like 2 or 3 because its unlikely things will change, but hey, guess you can admire his persistance, right?)
it gets better, i have my other friend try to connect, and he does not even load into the game, but the server gives a message, player connected, player disconnected. and again, after about 2 or 3 attempts to reconnect, nothing, not even a second connect and disconnect message in the cmd line.
so i checked the obvious : my ports. according to 4 different port checking websites, ive done it right. just to make sure i deleted the setting and redid it from scratch. got a static ip with 25565 forwarded no problem.
then i was like, oh what if its my firewall? so i forward the ports over tcp and udp as their own settings, on both private and public networks. i also opened up the java framework to be allowed.
so we try again, no messages. the two players could only communicate with the server in any meaningful matter a single time and they got disconnected, seemingly permenantly.
so we have a third person try to connect, same as the last two, a single message for connect, and then a disconnect, and nothing after that regardless of try count.
so ive been rolling around the internet trying to figure this out, aparantly the only other person having this exact issue has the same xfinity router i do. maybe thats something to do with it? no one could solve his issue either.
the kicker is, ive set up 2 other minecraft servers at other peoples house no problem and this is starting to frustrate me signifigantly.
the last thing im going to do to troubleshoot this is try to host a different kind of server, maybe ark, see if anyone can connect to that, or if my computer/router/home setup is just goofed.
i also put in execptions to the virus protector, and ran the server with both firewall and virus scanner completly disabled. same results. people connect once, and then disconnect into the void from whence they are never heard from again.
my banlist is also empty.
i can provide the mountains of information yall are about to request, so feel free to ask me for whatever you need to help me solve this.
basically i just want to play with my friends, so any (FREE) alternatives to a server that would result in me and my friends playing on the same map would be appreciated.
of course actually running a server would be super dandy, but ill settle for anything that works at this point.
edit (ive also restarted server, computer, and router several times, we also all own legit copies of minecraft 1.15, and the server is using the same version)
