I am hosting a MCJE server (vanilla) on a VM (LXC container under Proxmox) at home. It runs smoothly and I have two friends playing with me often. One of my friend is local (Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, where I and my server are located), and another is from Hong Kong. We all play the paid Java version of MC.
The problem is, we found that if either me or my local friend has connected, my HK friend will fail to join the server and see a message "Failed to login. Invalid session." However, if the server is empty, my HK can join and play normally. After he has joined, my local friend and I can login and we can all play together smoothly. This has been verified many times.
I have assigned 4 cores and 4 GB of RAM to the server, and as I observed there wasn't any signs of overloading. I have installed no plugin on my server, but my HK friend has installed forge and has the mini map. We all have the same version of game ( 1.15.2 ). I also checked my x86 router and I did not see his IP on the blacklist. Moreover, we tried both to use internet IP and OpenVPN, the same problem happened to both connection method.
The below is the server log regarding the issue:
[21:35:21] [User Authenticator #15/INFO]: UUID of player HKFriend is <UUID-here>
[21:35:21] [Server thread/INFO]: HKFriend[/<IP of HKFriend>:52104] logged in with entity id 149747 at (102.3466059822103$[21:35:21] [Server thread/INFO]: HKFriend joined the game
[21:35:43] [Server thread/INFO]: HKFriend lost connection: Timed out
[21:35:43] [Server thread/INFO]: HKFriend left the game
As an attempt to solve the problem, my friend has:
-Installed the latest version of Java
-Completely remove the game (and anything like forge) and deleted the game folder, and install it back
