I searched threads, but couldn't really find what I needed, so I'll post this and see.
Basically, I work in a datacenter in LA, and a company recently moved out and was throwing away 2 VERY good servers, which they gave to me instead of putting them in the dumpster. They are Dells with dual CPU Xeon 8 core processors, with 512GB of RAM, and 8 X 512GB SSD's.
My boss said I can plug them into our testing racks and use them for minecraft servers as long as I don't work or play on them during company time. So I'll have to work on this project before/after work. These will have 1GB per second Fiber internet connections, and the actual download/upload speeds are about 850mbps down, and 800mbps up.
My question is how many slots should I actually make this server? Like how many could each one host without lag? I ran a server from my house a while back and could barely have 8 friends on at a time, but that was on a laggy 2mbps line. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I won't have this ready for a while, so not trying to advertise or anything, but also what's the best way to fill up a server of this size too? Thanks fellas
