I've been trying to host a private server for me and a few friends lately, with mild success. I've managed to get everything working pretty well- aside from port forwarding, I ended up having to use BitTorrent to force port forwarding because my router was not co-operating.
I've found that almost every time I relaunch my server after a few hours of it being down, my Public IP, and therefore the server address has changed, which is a real pain. I've tried making my IP static through: Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings > Local Area Connection, Properties > Internet Protocol Version 4, Properties, and manually setting my IP address, as is demonstrated on many YouTube tutorials, but that doesn't seem to have changed anything at all. My IP address still changes every now and again. I was wondering if anyone might know what to do about that, or is there some other approach I can take to making my IP address static?
Since I don't have any money to spare on a Minecraft server, I ended up using the No-IP DNS Update Client, which I've found very useful so far. Just thought I'd mention this just in case someone with the same problem comes across this thread.
