I set out to create a small private server for my son on our Synology NAS (Rackstation 814+) and found an outdated install package that someone else had created and lots of instructions on how to install with that package and then manually update, or modify the package to include the .jar, etc., but nobody had updated it in years, and I thought it really needed to be such that people download from official sources, so I decided to update it. I also posted everything on github so that it wouldn't die like the other one had, but instead others could contribute.
I created a thread on the Synology Forums and thought this might also be a place to create one since it's one of the first places people get directed when they google how to do this.
Now, I'm not deeply into the Minecraft community but I've read about bukkit's demise. At first I wasn't going to update that package, but I have been more recently. I also added a Spigot package, and that's the one I'm personally running. On the Synology thread the common questions are about administration. Typing up some Synology specific admin info is kind of my next plan. I've started a bit, but it's pretty bare bones.
I recently converted my Spigot install to Paper and added it to the repository. It's performing much better on my limited resource Synology.

Have you considered adding Spigot support to this? The Spigot website provides a jar file that builds the latest versions of Spigot and Craftbukkit automatically.
I'm pretty much a server admin n00b, but I'll check it out.
Happy New Year. Updated the package to 1.8.9 server and modified the startup script to reduce RAM usage a little, as I was getting some feedback that some people were experiencing issues with RAM.
Edit: if anyone jumped on the change super fast, the package was borked the first time I put it on the distro and the update failed. It is fixed now.
I've got it working! We copied my son's saved world folder "bob" from his computer to the server, changed config file to use the name of his world "bob" instead of "world". Although the world is correct, his house is missing. Does anyone know what I did wrong? We also noticed the seed# is different from the copy on son's computer.

Hi ... first of all great work .. thxs for the updates and all the work.
One Problem. New DSM 6 is out and I wanted to install your new 1.90 version on my 415+. Although I have the home service enabled, it gives me an error that it is not enabled.
I get the same error for "The user home service is not enabled" error." as well.
I am using DSM 6. I had the PCLOADLETTER version running ever since I had my 1513+ with no issues. (I had the 1.5 thru 1.8 server versions running fine) It seems now running DSM 6, I can not get Minecraft running at. I uninstalled the PCLOADLETTER version and followed your (Colin) setup. Seems to get the the install screen and then gives me the error about the User Home. (it is check by the way) I did a little digging and found that maybe in the installer there is a setting that can be toggled? (This is a different project, but i hope that maybe it can shed some light on the issue...

OK, I'm taking this up a notch. I've been half-way maintaining the old Craftbukkit install, but I've introduced a Spigot installer. I copied liberally from someone who already had one working (with his blessing).
