I am building a custom map but I've been sort of set back by server lag. My console keeps getting spammed with:
"Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?"
I know this is quite a common error with an obvious source, but that source seems to be less obvious with my case.
I've tried killing all entities on the server but it still doesn't work. I've tried to stop all running clocks on the server and it still doesn't work.
It is as if the server could not handle 1 player on it and some simple redstone.
I can confirm that is not the case since I've tried to switch to another map that has around 50 mobs roaming around and 3-4 very fast clocks running on it and the server worked just fine.
EDIT: Skylinerw found the error, thanks everyone for your help
90% of the time the main issue for lag is the java args in the startup script are either missing or not properly configured for the machine the server is running on

Nope, Im using the same startup script for both worlds. The one with more things going on in it doesn't lag. The one that that nothing is going on in lags.
I also tried hosting the same world on a different computer and the same thing happens.
Is the map you're making in the void, or are you just using a normal world? I make large maps for stuff like kitpvp and MineZ, and I experience lag with the void for some reason. Anything dropping into it like sand will also cause a lot of lag.

The original world was indeed a void world. However, I've copied all important blocks to a non void world and the lag still appears.
if it is in the void try using world edit and move your build to another map it might also be the seed your using
That is what i did but even on the new map, it lags. That would mean that it is something in my build that causes the lag but i can't understand what would do it.
There's no entities and no clocks, What more could cause this much lag?

Anyways, Let's say I did do it in a void world, would you know how to fix it?
OF COURSE I WOULD KNOW HOW TO FIX IT EASY IF YOUR PLAYING MINECRAFT RIGHT NOW ADD ME MY NAME IS KENLEY6
You can't add people in minecraft
if it is in the void try using world edit and move your build to another map it might also be the seed your using
Where am i who am i who are you what is this blocky place

it might be the size of the build or a glitching block
Where am i who am i who are you what is this blocky place
The build isn't that huge and i can't think of anything that would glitch it.
hmm, I might add a download link for the build, im running out of options here
Is it laggy for everyone, or just you?
```RedstoneCraft.Net```
[Survival] ~ [KitPvP] ~ [Creative] ~ [Prison]
It's not FPS, the server can't handle the map, so yes. It is laggy for everyone
"Cant keep up" is the lag caused by the added resources in 1.8. If you want to prevent those message, do spigot. And allocate more RAM for your server
What are the specs of the server?
Lead developer of Dragonet!
Check out my game, Adventuria!
Dev of (IMO the best server ever) TwilightGamez!
It wasn't a problem with the server. I was summoning mobs with a following distance higher than 100 that caused the lag
