I'm almost ready to release my server to the public, but I'm not sure what to say in my opening post in the Servers section. What kind of information are people interested in when they're looking to join a new server?
This is what I have so far:
The server is currently in development, approximately in alpha. We feel that the best way to squash potential bugs is to have players come on and play normally. So far, things have gone pretty well. The bulk of the features of the server itself are done or close to being done, but we would like to get started on building the server community. So get out there, try it out, and let me know about any suggestions you might have!
IP: directorate.asuscomm.com
(default port)
Adikista is based on player interaction, both player vs player and player with player. As the players, you form your own nations with Towny, and from there your path is your own – you can create your own currency, trade with other nations, attack other nations, sign treaties, make friends, and make empries. You can also join existing nations, including the three initial nations we have. More information on them can be found at our forums, and their representatives will probably meet you as you join the server.
Adikista is substantially more difficult than your typical Minecraft server. This difficulty not only makes the server more challenging and interesting, but also helps to encourage teamwork. I recommend checking out the tutorials here: http://adikista.freeforums.org/stuff-you-need-to-know-f28.html
We are still working on adding all of the tutorials, but most of the ones essential for starting out are present. I particularly recommend reading the threads in the section on Survival and General Necessary Information.
I just feel like something important is missing, though. Or maybe it's just something with my tone, perhaps I'm too informal? Knowing me, it'll probably be something that'll look glaringly obvious once someone points out the deficiency...
Anyhow, thanks for the advice.

Adikista is not yet fully developed and open to the public. If you're highly interested and want to help, feel free to contact me. Otherwise, you are free to log in, but you probably won't have much to do yet.

Rules:
We feel that our rules are relatively easy to understand and follow. Let us know if there is any confusion. Gameplay:
1.) Do not attempt to cheat. Report bugs to a staff remember rather than taking advantage of them.
a.) Cobblestone generators are fine. Obsidian generators are not (they also do not work anymore anyway).
b.) Monster farms are not fine. We have a plugin that should prevent them from being made; do not attempt to bypass it.
2.) Do not attempt to circumvent protection plugins such as Worldguard or Towny. If something is unprotected that shouldn't be or vice versa, report it to a staff member.
3.) Refrain from spawn camping other players.
a.) If you are sieging a town, you may camp the spawn for as long as the siege lasts, since it is part of a coordinated war strategy. The rule is meant to protect newbies and weaker players from being camped out of spite.
4.) Admins are allowed to have sockpuppet characters to play the game with. They are NOT allowed to use their admin character or any other admin-related abilities to give an advantage to their sockpuppets (or themselves).
Communication:
1.) Do not spam. You know what spam is.
a.) In general, avoid chatting messages in quick succession or repeating the same message multiple times (people shouting out trade requests are exempted from the latter, within reason).
b.) Spam is generally decided at admin/moderator discretion.
2.) In general, the admins will not discriminate against political statements, even stupid ones. If someone's racist, homophobic, sexist, etc remark offends you, the appropriate response is to hunt them down and beat the living daylights out of them (in the game).
a.) This also applies to personal insults and the like.
b.) If someone's statements are genuinely disruptive to the community, they will be treated as spam and punished.
3.) Use each chat channel for its intended purpose. Looking-for-trade messages belong in Market, talking to your neighbors belongs in Local, asking admins for help belongs in Help, general chat that isn't specific to your nation/party/etc belongs in Global, etc.
4.) Do not attempt to impersonate staff.
News:
Various news updates will go here. Major ones will probably also be posted onto the thread. This will include both political news (ie, if the Principality of Alpoko attacks the Dominion of Mycilind) and server updates (ie, we install a new plugin that I think people will care about or remove one that's been causing problems).

You need to make the IP, website, etc. extremely obvious (put it above the welcome). Same goes for your logo/banner. People are blind these days. I would also recommend adding some screenshots.
