Lately I have been trying to set up a server and it is not working. I know I did all the port forwarding correct, and I just use the Bukkit auto-installer to set up the server itself. However, no matter what it "Can't connect to server" I'm not sure what the problem is, and it may be the computer I'm using. It is not physically plugged into the router, so that might be the problem. It gets internet from it of course, but I don't know. I thought it was impossible to run a server on a computer that is not plugged into the router, but my friend told me otherwise.
I'm sorry if I'm being stupid here. Just need some help. Thanks!
what auto installer did you use?
you can host the server wireless, but wired is always faster.
It says the port is closed, but every port tester I try says that. I forwarded the port correctly though, or at least I think I did. Did everything the guide told me from portforward.com.
The firewall may be the problem, because for some reason when I try to open it it says "Windows Firewall could not open settins due to an unidentified problem. So I can't open it to edit the settings. :/
Could you post a screenshot of your routers port forwarding configuration? As well as the output for your ipconfig :).
How badly screwed up is Windows Firewall? Could you atleast get in and try to turn it off to see if that helps (if so there are plenty of free, and much better alternatives out there).

I'm using this as the auto installer.
