The Problem:
So I decided to set up a server for me and a couple of my friends to play on and muck around.
And I set it up just fine. The server.properties file and everything. But when I go to port forward, everything goes downhill from there...
My Router:
D-Link DI-604
So i enter my ip (192.168.0.1) (default) and then enter the correct settings and everything but my friends are still unable to join.
The Solution:
This is where you guys come in. I don't know how the hell to fix it. Any Suggestions?
If I understyand your problem, then this also happened to me. I was able to join locally, but anyone using my external IP was unable to join, even after I port fowarded. The solution for myself was to turn off Windows Firewall. I'm not sure how dangerous this is for me but I have a anti virus program so I'm sure I'll be fine. To do so (on Windows 7, at least), go to Control panel, click 'System and Security', and then click 'Windows Firewall'. You can figure it out from there pretty easily. Hope this helps.

I am actually running it on my mac book but I will try it on my windows comp. Thanks!
1. Register with no-ip or dyndns and download the updater application.
2. I hate mac and they suck so cant help there, on windows give yourself a STATIC IP addres for exmaple in your case use IP: 192.168.0.250, subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.0.1, dns1: 192.168.0.1, dns2: blank
3. log into your router and look for the port forwarding section, if your router has a "source IP" field make sure to leave it BLANK, same goes for source port ONLY fill in the destination IP/Port fields. (dest IP will now be 192.168.0.250)
4. Now tell your friends to try and log in via the no-ip/dyndns DNS name and hopefully it just works.

Im sorry but I don't think you are being quite clear.
Do a port scan of your external ip to check the port (default tpc 25565 - http://www.canyouseeme.org/) is open, then check the local ip for the host machine.
If the first step is the issue, then it is properly a port forward issue. If it is the second then it is properly related to firewall (most commonly software).
I port forwarded correctly yet it says connection time out...
ok this will fix ur problem 1 if u didnt try shutting off windows firewall seeing as its useless and it blocks out alot of stuff u need try this
hamachi just google hamachi logmein u have to make a log in and such but if u and all ur frends install it it makes a VLS (virtual local server) so all of ur computers and internets will think ur sitting in the same house

http://portforward.com/english/routers/ ... Server.htm
A Possibility if that doesn't work is your ISP could be blocking ports, for example mine blocks port 80 (The default HTTP server port)
Unfortunately that is the guide I followed. Thanks for your help though :/
If you don't know what a external IP is, then you really have no business hosting a server at all.
Yes I know what external ip is. Im tech savvy for the most part but no one can join it...
