Hey guys. I have spent ages trying to get my server to work, but i have had no success so far. I have got the server up and running and i can connect myself using 192.168.2.3, 127.0.0.1 or localhost, but my external IP does not work. I suspect the problem lies in the port forwarding. When i use canyouseeme.org it always says 'Connection timed out' when i put any port in. I have tried all of my IPs and every time i get the same error. My friend also gets the same error when he tries to connect. I have gone to the linksys port forward page and successfully forwarded the 25565 port, but it still doesn't work. I have even tried changing the port i'm using to 19268 but still doesn't work.
I just tried that. I set it to allow incoming connections from both Java and Minecraft. Still doesn't work. I even tried turning firewall off altogether, still no luck.
It might be a problem with the IP i have put in the server.properties file. I can put 127.0.0.1 or 192.168.2.1 in, but when i try my external IP i get a failed to bind to port error when i try to start the server :Notch:.
yea, if canyouseeme doesn't work, it sounds like you don't have the port forwarded correctly.
It can be tricky; especially with linksys routers. Have you tried portforward.com?
Thats where i got the instructions on how to forward it. I did everything right and watched heaps of tutorials. It said it was successful. But apparently it didn't work. Is there any other way to forward your ports, or fix the problem? It might work if i use Port Map in conjunction with the port forwarding, maybe i'll try that. I'm still open to any suggestions.
try using hamachi. i couldnt run a server until i set up a network with that. althought now i cant run a server because i cant get the 1.5.x to run anyway.

Well, i installed Hamachi and got a network up and running. It seems to be working fine, and i can connect without hassle. Since i am using my external IP to connect and it is working, it should work for others as well, shouldn't it? Anyway i still have to test it with my friend, and that will probably not be until tomorrow. I certainly hope it works!
Hey you need to go to spotlight find the app activity monitor and scroll down the list on activity monitor until you find java. Then you need to go to quit process and quit it. This should work :).
Just a heads up Hamachi is fine for running servers for just a few players but if you are looking at having many people it starts to get laggy. I would suggest getting someone to host it like this person here:
mc.net.nz
Though if you are wanting to host it yourself and not use hamachi (because hamachi will get laggy) you will need to successfully port foward your server.
Help?
