I've downloaded the latest minecraft_server.jar, but it won't convert my world. Instead it creates a new one in the same folder. I've also tried pulling my map into my single player version and converting it that way, but my single player minecraft (again, latest version) won't even recognize it.
I've tried using the chunk-region utility, and while it succeeds with relative success (only 10 dropped chunks out of ~4000), launching with the converted world still results in the server creating a new world in the same folder.
I have searched google and the forums, and haven't come across anyone with the same problem, much less a solution. The only alterations I've made to my map is some editing in MCedit prior to the update. It's always worked fine and loaded up quickly.
Anyone have any advice or help? I'd really like to avoid having to create a new map.
Is the map folder named something other than "world" ? If so, you'll have to adjust server.properties under "level-name=" to match the name of the folder with the map you want to use and then start the server.
Just an idea... I personally don't plan on upgrading until bukkit catches up, but in theory:
Are you using Windows or Linux? Could be something as simple as a capitalization issue. Make sure both the file and the configuration read "world" all in lower case?
I'm likely going to do a test run tonight on my own server map to see (crosses fingers) if it will work. I can totally understand your pain. I'd be pretty bummed out if we lost all that hard work.
Edit:
Here's a thought too, have you tried importing it in to McEdit? It's possible it may fix any corruption issues if there are any. I haven't checked to see if McEdit is up to date yet with 1.3, but I'm sure if it's not, he's working hard to get it up to speed.
