If you want to see what backups are made from the Linux bash prompt end, you can follow the instructions at: http://minecraft.codeemo.com/config_restoretwo.html -- the tutorial for restoring from backups.
Part 1.2 ( rdiff-backup -l ) will list every restore point.
Fantastic. I have what you said done, trying to test it.
I haven't changed any options or anything, been doing the basic stuff, but I'm getting directory errors when trying any of the said functions on that page.
Keep in mind that my screenshots are using the directory /usr/games/minecraft/ram-worlds/one & /archive/one
These are simply from a ramdisk setup (which you may not be using), so be sure to replace it with the appropriate paths, such as /mnt/sda1/minecraft & /mnt/sda1/minecraft/archive/one.
If this isnt the issue, please provide a SS of the error, or let me know what it is so i can further diagnose. :smile.gif:
For some reason under the Network settings it isn't finding my router in the drop-down menu. Just TeamViewer, hamachi, and some realtek device that was my old wireless network card; now I connect via Ethernet, any reason it isn't showing up? Because of this, it also isn't showing me the ip once I get to the 'ifconfig' stage.

I'm getting the "Fatal Error: Bad directory (any that I have tried) It doesn't appear to be an rdiff-backup destination dir.
I honestly couldn't tell you what directory it would be in or anything.

Type in these commands so I have an idea how your setup is arranged:
let me know what each of these return. Then I can help more. The error youre getting 'bad directory' leads me to believe that while the backups may be OK, just your RDIFF-BACKUP command may be needing work. The error when you incorrectly type in a directory SHOULD be: 'fatal error: could not find rdiff-backup repository at /dir/dir/dir/'

hmm. - I can't get past the reboot ..
after i run the setup script, set the partition size (+15360 for 15 GB), set the passwords, and type reboot, it goes through the reboot cycle, but then halts at a blank black screen. Using VMware workstation ACE Edition v 6.05.
My vmware.log shows this - but not sure what if means. I've allocated 1 GB of RAM.

I see that you're using VMWare, are you using the VMWare tutorial?
Theres a specific snag in VMware using SCSI disks which MineOS does not seem to like. Just to be sure, are you doing the step here http://minecraft.codeemo.com/config_9.html #3, where you ignore SCSI to create IDE?

Yes, been following that tutorial.. ensuring that i create an IDE drive after I remove the SCSI.
I deleted all the vmware files from the OS folder and tried again, but no dice still. I'm now using 1024 MB RAM, 10 GB of IDE HD space (got tired of waiting for 20 GB to get pre-allocated). Bridged ethernet as well.
There aren't even any error messages, and I can't type anything on the screen - so troubleshooting is difficult. I get the VMware splash screen but it only flashes across for like 1 second - then its blank screen with cursor in top left corner.
Doesn't look promising for me with VMware,.. maybe tomorrow I'll try removing vmware and giving virtual box a try.

The error when you incorrectly type in a directory SHOULD be: 'fatal error: could not find rdiff-backup repository at /dir/dir/dir/'
rdiff-backup --force -r 10m /mnt/sda1/minecraft/archive/one /mnt/sda1/minecraft/one
(i realize the 1 exists in this line but does not in your paths--read below to see why the 1 SHOULD be there)
ALLLLLTHOUGHHHHHHHHHH. I can see the problem you're having to start. It says /mnt/sda/minecraft
That means, when you executed 'sudo ./setup_server', something went wrong with the partitioning. Recheck that step because whenever you run this script, it assumes you're using a blank disk to partition. It then creates 'sda1' and 'sda2'--persistent storage and swapfile.
Howver, yours is just called 'sda' (the script adds the 1). If it doesn't add the one, it may be because it doesn't recognize two different partitions...which could happen if you assigned the full size of the partition during this script.
In other words, if you have a 5GB partition (+5000M), be sure to fill in a number in the script that is lower than that, such as +4192M or +4000M, to give swapspace to linux. With the extra space, swapfile is allocated, sda1 and sda2 are created, and sda1 is put into the script!

Will I be able to redo this without effecting the server?
Will I be able to redo this without effecting the server?
Depends on what you mean by 'affecting the server'. Is your server up and running with a world, etc? If so, then you can definitely adjust this WITHOUT starting over, though support in the future might be a bit iffy since all the tutorials and such explain steps differently than you have setup.
Assuming things are actually working OK, go ahead and just use:
If nothing is up and running, it actually means you just have have to redo Part 2+ (after removing the existing virtual drive, and remaking another in its place).
type in: ls -la /mnt/sda
do you get more files listed than '.' and '..'? There should be minecraft/and tce/ as well, this would tell us that the set up is still, for the most part, consistent with what im expecting. Though it also means youre probably not getting any swapspace. Which isnt the best ever.

I typed in the rdiff-backup --force -r 10m /mnt/sda/minecraft/archive/one /mnt/sda/minecraft/one and was greeted with this "Fatal Error: Could not find rdiff-backup repository at /mnt/sda/minecraft/archive/one"
I'm pretty sure it IS backing things up though, in the console I do see "crond[982]: crond: USER tc pid xxxx (representing numbers) cmd /usr/games/minecraft/admin/sh backup one

There seem to have been a few typing errors in this installation of yours--see if your world is a-ok and I'd recommend backing it up and starting anew. Linux isnt exactly the most fault-tolerant so, there's always that :/

The server IS perfect still, nothing wrong with it.
I don't know how to back up the entire server.
I've never used linux before in my life.
:l
Would I be able to just work with that there error / instead of .?
Anyway to redirect things to that without backing up and starting over.
Cause...I don't wanna risk effing it up and loosing the server data.

Just go through the crontabs tutorial again and change the / to a .
Keep in mind though, if its not typed in properly, its not actually making backups. So certainly, you can keep the server running, and it'll work like any other--but you won't have restore points, which is usually pretty important.

Well - worked right away with Virtualbox ... guess VMware is hit and miss...
