I was able to get the MineOS installed on an older system I had laying around using the iso you created on 1/17. I was able to connect through another computer to the server and see the web interface. When I clicked on the update server button, I received and error on page. I looked at the details of the error and I received this:
Webpage error details
User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.1; Trident/4.0; GTB6.3; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; MEGAUPLOAD 3.0; .NET4.0C; InfoPath.3)

**OK FIXED THIS** I used Firfox asn I was able to run the update server files button. IE on two seperate machines still give me this error, but firefox works fine.
whenever i start the server i get the message
"{'world': 'one', 'command': 'start'} starting up world... using port: 25565 world one: down"
any idea how to fix this?
i'm about to throw & in
You have Bukkit with it? My life is COMPLETE. FINALLY. It's so much more organized to have a server virtualized but I couldn't because there was no Bukkit in the last version.
WEEEE. <3
Will, you have a very nice tutorial voice. I don't need it, but I decided to watch anyway. CHEERS.
As you see only the cd drive appears, this is Vmware Server. if theres any chance you can help me figure this out to get the server back up and running much would be appreciated.
please make it so that instead of having us program please make it ask you to either click "cancel" or "accept"/"install" and then it does all the stuff you were showing in the vid
so no this is not simple yet :sad.gif:
It's very simple, for linux. The amount of work that's already done for you is enormous.
No programming is required. The word you're looking for is configuring.
It's probably unrealistic to expect it to be any easier. If you're unfamiliar with virtualization and installing operating systems, it's going to seem much more difficult than it actually is.
I'm confused on why you removed the FTP server. I understand the web-based SSH functionality, but the FTP server made adding and configuring plugins and properties so much easier. A LOT easier. Now everything has to be done via command line. Why?
Got mine up and running fairly easily the only problem I have now is when i give out my dyndns url to access the game to ppl it points not to the web page snapshots but straight to my routers home page which is really not good, Any ideas? http://xxxxxxxxx.dyndns-ip.com/ Its setup in the router under ddns and points to 192.168.1.2 which is the server

Pleases excuse the terrible typing while I break in a new keyboard after 10 years with the old one.
SSH/SCP login keeps failing. I went to /etc/hosts.allow and specifically added my IP but that didn't work. I can't login as "root" with the password I used when running the 2nd setup script. It always says "access denied." This is on Ubuntu and using both SecPanel and PuTTY.
Also, I am continuously getting "connection refused" when trying to connect to the worlds that I CAN make (but not change in any way). I have my ports forwarded correctly, I did it on the last revision and have done it for years (as to save myself from the usual, "you didn't forward your ports correctly. [because, yes, I did]."
192.168.1.120 gives me connection refused.
192.168.1.120:4598 gives me a time out error.
WAN-IP:4598 gives me a time out error.
Did not have this problem in the previous revision.
Also (yet another issue?), since the way the server backups was changed, I changed the crontab I had to the way you specified in the video, to the letter. Well, it doesn't save, at all. I specified every 5 minutes to test, left it up for a while, took it down, tried to restore and it wouldn't restore. Said there was no backup found.

I'm not that hot with linux ill be honest but i dont think you cann go in as root. I think you need to use
address 192.168.x.x
usr:tc
pw:xxxx(whatever you chose in step two)
I could be erong but this worked for me using WINscp

I had the older version working but I'm having a problem with this one. When I try boot from the ISO there is no file called setup.sh. There is a file called 10_setup_sudo.sh that appears to work at first, but then it asks me to open the partition manager instead of partitioning for me. I'm gonna try doing it myself, but this is not as user friendly as the last version.
I have the OS installed but I can't change the password now.
is it possible to update or i have to install the entire OS again?
I think you could just copy everything from the FTP directory and upload it once you've installed the OS again. I don't think there is a way to update though other than that. I could be wrong.

Agreed. The new video tutorial on the website goes through it, though.
You can't copy anything but the world files, I imagine. Everything else seems to have changed.
I also personally think SSH/SCP sucks compared to FTP. Obviously, there is the advantage of being efficient and stuff like that, but you drop down in user-friendliness and "simplicity" by a large factor (which I THOUGHT was the aim here). There's nothing easy or simple about using those protocols over FTP which is almost always accompanied with a better GUI (SSH/SCP clients generally don't have one at all!). Also, I don't mean to offend, but I'm not interested in becoming a "competent Linux server administrator." Really. I just want to use it do this, and that's it.

I disagree with this because the things required to set this up are simple and you can't really learn how to do this without learning something about Linux also. Besides, I like learning things and there isn't a limit to what my brain can hold.
Try WinSCP or Cyberduck for a good FTP/SCP client.
But yes, I don't really understand the reason for the changes in the setup process.

But yes, this version isn't working right.
I know how to use SSH/SCP to a usable extent. I've used PuTTY and SecPanel before, but if the previous version was working for people, I don't see the need to change. The same goes for the partition. Why fix what wasn't broken? You can make it "better," by a very marginal degree, but you're sacrificing, too.
What I meant was, I'm not exactly trying to become a professional at running Linux servers. I think I already know enough to get by and even to run this (if it was working like my other instances of needing to use similar software...?). I manage to fix a lot of my problems on my own, and I admit most of the issues I'm having are my own, but I'm still making the case for going against what I think the entire goal of this was.
I can't use WinSCP since I'm not using Windows. I'm running a Linux distro. I would if I was, though.
Okay, new problem. It can't find /etc/httpd.conf every time I boot up so I can't get into the web interface because that means the web server isn't running. I also still don't know the default password. It's apparently not minecraft2010.

I use win7 as i play a lot of games and mmo's and linux isnt an option(yes wine but No!) but i found this which might help. I think scp etc is more secure.
The major reason for implementing SFTP versus FTP is security. FTP is not even remotely secure. During an FTP session, your username and password are transmitted in clear text. If someone is eavesdropping, it is not difficult for them to log your FTP username and password.
SCP (Secure Copy) is a non-interactive command-line tool for securely transmitting files from a machine to another. It is a secure replacement for RCP and provides a similar command-line syntax. SCP is strongly based on SFTP but is often a more suitable choice when setting up unattended file transfers using scripts

Oh, I thought he removed it and was saying you COULD use SCP if you installed and configured it yourself...nevermind then. Yeah, SCP is cool, too.

Yes. Make sure you change the max RAM in your virtual server settings, too.
