It has linux install instructions which require a GUI. I'm pretty new when it comes to Linux CLI, as I'm sure some people using MineOS are. If someone would be so kind as to translate the above instructions into steps that can be done on MineOS, via the CLI or the FTP server, I would be very grateful.
Not to be short, but I intend to have MineOS fully support bukkit when it comes out with a semi-polished release. That is to say, Ive been making the latest edition with full-knowledge that hmod will be replaced by bukkit, if not an official API.
At the development point bukkit is at, theres little about it I think warrants tutorial creation or additional support, since it is still undetermined whether or not notch may release mod-friendly API before bukkit reaches full swing. Given that, if it does take a while, the release I wish to put out tomorrow or such, is readying up for bukkits release by ..... well, lets face it: there will be a 3mb download to make MineOS fully bukkit -supported --and ill wait till that happens before I write up the scriptchanges.
Hopefully after tomorrow, I'll have overcome the technical issues that has held me back 4 days, and can also release my MineOS cloud--
MineOS cloud edition: a server software compatible with MineOS that will be designed for remote backup of other MineOS worlds, while allowing the world to be seen (read-only) to the rest of the internet. (and have no connection or link to the original mineos hosts)

Hope this helps.
I hope it does. While I could be wrong, bukkit is not in a place where it is ready to be adopted by the average server. But I put my assurance out there, once it has some solid plugins and 'we're ready to replace hmod with bukkit' support, you can bet ill put my effort into making this a 'push a button for a bukkit server' task.
My mind could be a little fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure I mentioned MineOS cloud. I hope this is an idea that actually gets some support behind it because I think its personally one of those greatest functionally-feasible ideas out there. So, I certainly am looking for your feedback:
MineOS: server software, expects a dedicated/semi-dedicated computer on a solid internet connections. Will co-operate with existing MineOS servers (opting in necessary). Will provide daily backup storage, but--and this is the valueadded--all stored backups will be publicly available, accessible through ANY mineOS server/client request--to permit the sharing of read-only worlds with anybody else.
Mind you, this type of configuration requires no changes and poses no risk to the MineOS administrator--it is simply a MineOS server that offers world-backup 'on the condition that' servers backed up may be read-only accessed by anybody in the world.
As I see it, this is a perfect means for anybody to say 'come look at my g-d awesome creation'--without having to give out your own server's IP address or install anti-griefing software.
Well anyways, thats the idea I'm already putting into work, so please let me know if it seems like it'd be a fun addition to the Minecraft community.
Response: 331 Password please.
Command: PASS *************
Response: 421 Unable to change root directory.
Error: Could not connect to server
Reinstalled It on virtualbox several times, rebooted the computer.
Worked fine until today.
Not sure what to do from here to fix it.
Edit: Specifically my issue is I am unable to connect to the FTP and receive this error every time, upon retrospect I realized this post wasn't clear on that :tongue.gif:
I assume by the lack of responses that this is a unique issue and I'm pretty much on my own here?

Back to the grind then...
What account are you trying to log in with? Are you using the "tc" account, or are you attempting to login with root?
First I want to say, thanks for creating MineOS and helping fix our problems. I finally got my server to run but I'm not sure how to save and open it.
Before shutting down VM, I backed up the world. However, when I want to start the server again, it says
"World one does not exist!
World one: DOWN
--DONE-- "
I've tried import, restore, and they don't work. Sorry if I'm doing something obviously wrong or just being a newb. I went through the thread and found out I needed to use FTP or something to transfer/edit files. I have no clue how to use FTP or what it is.

I'm using the default "tc" and "minecraft2010" login, I've also tried changing the password to something custom.
It doesn't seem to be a username/password issue from what I can tell.

Has nothing else changed since today? Execute the following command and let me know what you get out of it:
cat /etc/bftpd.conf | grep "ROOTDIR"
this should reply back with the path of your minecraft directory, which presumably would be .... /mnt/sda1/minecraft or something similar. Let me know what you get out of this, as well as the results of:
ls -la /mnt/sda1/minecraft
(or whatever directory is given for rootdir)--I'm interested in the line labelled './'

I got a screencap of it so I wouldn't miss anything.
(Did the second one twice just to be certain about that end result)
Soooo.... its not mounting your hard drive partition. Things like this don't typically just disappear or stop working, so, if you're able to recall....did anything happen before this stopped working, did you make any changes--try to...something that maybe only worked once, then stopped working today on when you restarted?
Of course, if you have done something before it stopped working, then it makes it a lot easier to troubleshoot, but diagnosing a fully-working-untouched-system-gone-bad opens a lot more venues.

What do you get with: fdisk /dev/sda1 -l
This is on a fresh install of both virtualbox and the OS itself.
(Re-installing didn't change anything, the ftp didn't work both before and after.)
1. Whats the current status with this, as in will it eventually have bukkit integration
2. Why should i use this MineOS instead of running Ubuntu server?
1) Current status is constantly in-development, with numerous awesome feature additions pending.
2) You don't need to, if you think your ubuntu server runs minecraft already. On the other hand, there's unique qualities to MineOS which do not exist in any other minecraft server implementation ever seen, including the upcoming mineos cloud. I'm not gonna write up a persuasive essay, but you may see the features at : http://minecraft.codeemo.com/

So youre saying FTP has never worked on either of your fresh installs? Justto make sure I have the ordering correct, the server has worked for a few days, correct--and in that time, have you restarted the server at least once or was this the first time you have restarted it?
I'm surprised you would be able to host a minecraftserver at all if the hard drive did not mount, and any restarts should have reflected this earlier. If you've never restart the server, I'm assuming you may have run across errors during the install....meaning the server created was in fact a ramdisk server. SO to further troubleshoot, um.
Are you able to see if theres any errors that occur during installation? I'm led to believe that through the install process the drive designation part (where you type in hda/sda/etc) wasnt done properly. Lets see:
and what do you get when you type in: fdisk -l /dev/sda
Alrighty--I have just finished and uploaded my updated MineOS image-----however, it is not accessible via my home page yet--
Since its new and mostly rewritten (python vs bash), it hasnt had a chance to be tested as much as the existing ISO. Having said that, I think it's working 100x better than the previous release.
Though this release is neither secret nor exclusive, I'll be waiting a day or two to release it for two reasons:
1) as i develop tutorials that go along with the new scripts
2) to get feedback from those who wish to TEST it, so it can be verified worthy for the masses.
i got a new problem.
When i want to connect a screen, it says "Access to the session denied" what may cause this?
and i dont know it is a server problem or with the client, but if i want to connect i got this error "Bad packet id 127".
Thanks for the help
When you want to connect to a screen using what method/steps? What are you typing in to get this error and what is it displaying for you as your available screens. Also, is this a new issue (worked before, broken now) or is it the first time youre trying?
