Seriously, how many multiplayer servers were floored by this beta release?
I see two problems:
1. Notch releasing a nearly unplayable beta, that few will even get to test for him due to the second problem.
2. Hey0 taking a 4 day hiatus. (he is unpaid, so that is fair enough; but it makes poor timing for 90% of minecraft)
For those of us with a remote host - we can't even roll back to alpha because our remote host consoles are completely dependent on hmod.
I can't count the number of major servers that just aren't operating right now. To even play alpha players need to download an external client.
How sad... it is a pitiful way to run a game. I understand we're in 'beta', but this was completely unnecessary.
*sighs* you kno I just bought the game about a week ago. and yesterday... literally! jnust yesterdfay i had found a multiplayer server ip that was amazing. and I wanted to be apart of it. and,... well when i just got on. its totally gone. all the servers that I have tried now say outdated.....
why? Why would they be outdated... does that mean everything that someone has done is potentially gone.... This is kind of rude but I dont think the game was worth it if theres going to be days and days of no fixing.
please write back. id like to know if theres any other servers that i could play multiplayer on still. i miss being able to be in a city. please.... my favorite olace was called minekraft. and i had made a friend. and now i prolly wont see them again.
Presumably the bugs will be fixed tomorrow. Hey0's may not be compatible till after christmas true, but the game itself should be playable tomorrow.
And the version conflict simply means you need to close minecraft, and restart it to get the patch... (that or the server is running the old version). The "world" you are so excited about, is still there, you just can't get to it today because of a version conflict.
I dont see what hey0 has to do with the update. Notch rolled out a broken update with no option of rolling back. We pay notch. We don't pay hey0. He has no obligation to fix anything. Notch, however should have at least let us choose to roll back (the client obviously).
This thread is a perfect example of the problems the community forming around this game face.
As a former server admin, I can tell you that 95% of the players have the same attitude as the OP. They use free mods and play on free servers, and have an arrogant sense of entitlement to it all.
Second, as stated above, grow up, your not paying for online play on a pay-per-basis. You're not paying for hMod, stop whining. You don't like it? Just find a new game or host your own localhost server.
He writes a very important mod that is the foundation of a large community. Him taking a break is OK, but it sort of a slap in the face to people who have supported him and donated to hmod's development during this very critical moment in minecraft's development? He had 361days this year that he could have taken this break, and chose the worst four days both for the development of minecraft, but also for the playerbase.
Grow up? Flame all you like, but hear my argument. As a minecraft community, we should not have such ill timing. Hopefully the next major patch will go much smoother than this.

People need to wake up.
Alot of judgement and hate here. You're a very negative person and need to realize that I am not claiming that Hey0 owes me anything.
Something tells me you've never seen a vagina.
MOD EDIT: That last part wasn't necessary. User warned for flaming.

Where the hell were you working where 95% of the people had this attitude?
Talk about mean world theory.
Just because a vocal minority has a loud voice box doesn't mean they make up a larger population.
95% is about as hyperbolic as you could go. But you did say "former" so maybe back in the day there were wild wests of web hosting where people stabbed one another digitally all day.
Haha :smile.gif:. Looks like we have a live one! Someone here is capable of critical thinking at least.
That guy's vaginal perception is about as high as his perception of the general server hosting population.
What he doesn't understand is that I can be both critical and supportive of Hmod (just like we all are with minecraft itself).
Example: Minecraft is a great game, notch is a great guy. However, Notch needs to fix the armor bug. Just because I think Notch needs to fix a bug does not mean I hate all minecraft and Notch.
I see no reason to 'blind' myself to the error that hey0 made just because I support and admire his work. A fanatical belief that Hey0 is some kind of god and that I cannot criticize him would make me a fanboy.
While your thought process and ideals may be true for some, I too have noticed that people seem very 'needy' for lack of a better word, when it comes to things that people are supplying for free. I can understand the frustrations with Notch, that's completely expected as we've all paid for the game. What some people tend to forget is that we paid for an Alpha game, which is all but unheard of in the gaming industry. Since not many people are aware of what an Alpha game really is, they have the perception that this game is fully functional, has been stress and bug tested for months on end by a dedicated team of developers and has everything it should have just as if you'd have bought it in a box on a Best Buy shelf or through your Steam client.
While I agree that Notch has some interesting methods for testing his releases, I still take into consideration that every release he makes is still a pre-release of the final game and as such, nothing will be perfect by any definition of the word.
As for the issue with hey0, I've noticed a lot of people get rather irate and extremely demanding when asking for updates/features/bug fixes, etc. This attitude is again understandable, except for the fact that everything hey0 has done has been done on his own personal free time for little to no compensation. Yes, he does get donations but I doubt he's nearing a fraction of the type of numbers Notch has made with the game, yet I would say it's safe to assume there's a large percentage of the MC community that uses his addon. Some people seem to think they're entitled to consistent, timely updates and don't take into consideration that hey0 (and his awesome dev team) do not know what changes Notch has made until the release is actually made to the public. He and his team don't get special treatment with an early version or any type of heads up, so there's always that small gap/delay between Notch releasing a new version and any mods/addons/plugins catching up.
Now that's just with the regular schedule of releases thus far, as for this Beta release, all I can really say is that it's a victim of bad timing. With it being so close to the holiday and many people going out of town to visit family or having family come to visit, not everyone can spend hours and hours getting things working with Beta. From what I understand hey0 is also still a young lad and I've heard that his family went out of town for vacation and he had no say in it, so to put any blame on him is trivial as he really had no control over when Notch decided to release Beta and/or when his parents decided they'd be going out of town on holiday.
Oooookay there goes my wall of text. I'm done talking now, carry on. :smile.gif:
First day beta was up I updated the server and just copied my server's map over. Everything has run fine, I do miss not having HMod and all of our other mods, but all an all my server community is content with the beta release and as far as I can tell it's been pretty stable with only a handful of crashes which could be chalked up to human errors on my part.
Also I feel like you are the kind of person that would play a MMO and on patch days or expansion releases would get severely upset that the servers would go down right after the patch or the release. Grow up.
Any servers that are running the Beta at the moment have either started a new map or are using a temporary map until hMod is supported. Nothing will be lost.
yuupyup thats what we're doing, it was kinda fun to get the 30+ regulars together and made a city, ended up bein less of a let-down until we can get the map up
