Could someone post an ideal amount of max players for a home-run setup?
Or at least tell me the average or peak bandwidth a single user may use.
My ISP
Download: 3Mbps (should be 6 after I call them to fix it)
Upload: 378 kbps, I believe.
I wouldn't recommend running a home server with such a low upstream. You'd want something much, much higher for any type of server to run without lag once more than 2 people are on. You may be able to use your current home connection for 2 players, but I wouldn't think the server would run that well.
See if any upgrades you can do will bring your upstream closer to 2Mbps (or higher) - If not you may want to look into renting a hosted server.
Uh, maybe, but first how do I determine the spawn area in the first place?
I just want to make a nice platform type deal (like a "Welcome to Our World" type thing) but when I or my build buddy (just my roommate at the moment) spawn we don't spawn in exactly the same spot every time, and I hate guessing with this stuff. :sad.gif:
*OCD twitch*
I've tried to read through all the programs and all the scripts and all the what not and there is just so friggin much I don't know where to start.
EDIT: Eh, we figured it out. I had my Slaves keep digging around the spawn area until they defined the part that they couldn't dig in which = spawn area.
I was thinking of putting a Minecraft server in my buddy's office building because he has T1 connection just for half dozen office computers. Would this compromise the office security ?
I got a few questions.
How do I set a spawn point where I want it?
How do I make a island where no one but mods can destroy and make things, but off the island you can build anything?
You answered how to make my own biome for my server, and to customize a map. But can you answer my other questions?

If you don't mind me replying so late, allow me to answer:
1. On a regular classic server, go to your new spawn and type "/setspawn" without the quotation marks.
2. First, build the island. For the next part, you'll need some custom server software; I've been away for a while, so I don't know what would be good. Use the area command or whatever the equivalent is, and set it to mods only; more documentation about this can probably be found on your server's topic. If MCZall is still going, I know that you can do it in that.
Sorry if I'm useless now; as I said, I've been away for a long time, especially from Classic. Don't worry, though; I'm returning. :smile.gif:
Your tuts are awsome. Can you make one that will teach how to make the ip into something els, like for instantce instead of typing in 265.457.2.90 in the ip place you would type "survival revival" or a name instead of the ip. I have seen this done in a server but never seen a tutorial on it. Thanks in advance if you do it and thanks anyway for the guide.
I actly sat here and read it all since the servers are dwn n stuffz.
Eating chips readin posts xD
Needs to be Stkd~
Progress on the new guide is going well, but it's November, and that means NaNoWriMo, so I might not get far this month.
